i just got a 1959 Roberto Clemente of $40....and it is in great shape....

Beckett says the card is worth $175....

but there is nobody on the planet willing to give me more than $50.....

now they have this "grading scale". if it isn't professionally graded, it isn't worth much. it's just sad in my opinion.

I was a big collector when I was younger..it was so simple back then...Topps was the only game in town.

Once i got a bit older and had some dough to waste, I'd gamble on the pricey wax-packs...80-81 Topps Basketball (to get the coveted Bird/Magic Johnson/J Irving trio card) and the 86 Fleer Basketball (many valuable rookies). As I recall, one pack sold for around $25!
