I'm probably speaking too soon but I'm at the Rangers vs Devils game right now (via iPhone), and Marty is getting it SO bad right now. It's a beautiful thing to see him get worked by his most hated team.

The greatest of all time my asshole. All those years he had a defense in front of him that was unbeatable lead my Scott Stevens. He's a little piece of shit too, he takes cheap shots at players, mouths off, etc etc...I can't respect a guy like that. He's a turd. 1994 will always be in the back of his mind, he was thinking that too last year in the playoffs against the Rangers when he got shelled again, and now his first return against Avery and the pack and he let up 2 awful goals.

Great goalie yes but he's a complete douche bag, the guy slept with his wife's sister

    I love that argument.
"Who cares that he's at or near the top of every NHL goalie record list, won the Cup three times and has more 40-win seasons than any other goalie in the history of the game... he had a good defense in front of him. So he can't be considered the greatest of all time."

I don't care if he's a douche bag. So was Patrick Roy. But if you are going to honestly say that Martin Brodeur isn't even in the conversation as the best NHL goalie of all time, then you are nuts.

    Yeah it's true.
Back to the Future was an amazing movie. II was great also, things started to trail off in the third, but overall, a tight trilogy.
And was there any better use of Huey Lewis in any other movie (with the exception of Christian Bale's monologue in American Psycho...)?

if he was a ranger all this time, marty would have pretty average career #'s. there is no agruing that. the devils are the sole reason for brodeur's accomplishments, not brodeur himself.

out of the 3 cups that brodeur won, he did was not awarded the conn smythe once. that goes to show he was NOT the most important player on the devils during those championship years. while roy is a douche bag, he has what, 3 conn smythes?

f-brodeur. he disgraces the position by flopping around like a fish when breathed on, and sticking players in the balls when their backs are turned. in his post game interviews, he NEVER takes responsibility. he is always pointing the finger and making excuses. just admit that you got BEAT and move on.

he is a clown and i love how avery has him in the palm of his hand.

Now I'm not a devils fan or even really big on Brodeur, but by saying that he has disgraced the position, and that he'd be a pretty average goaltender on a different team really shows your inability to look at things objectively.

While he might act like a douche, you can't argue that he is an elite goaltender and one of the best in the league.

i am not agruing that he is not an elite goaltender and that he is not one of the best in the league. what i am arguing is that he is both of those things because he is on the devils which has had some of the best defensive teams ever over the past 15 years. when the devils were playing the trap all of those years, he averaged no more than 17/18 shots a game. and they were always low percentage shots, low quality scoring changes. you put a college goalie in net for the devils and he will even shine.

the connection that brodeur and his family have with montreal is always talked about. don't you think at some point in his career he would be interested in going to the canadians? but never left because he was all cozy in NJ looking like a superstar and could never put up the #'s in montreal with a team that doesn't preach the same defensive minded style of play like NJ?

put him on the rangers from 1998-2003... do you think he would have better #'s than mike richter? i find it hard to believe that he could do any better than mike richter did with those train wreck new york ranger teams.

Well, if the Rangers would have taken him at 13 when they had the chance instead of Michael Stewart (who by the way, never played a game in the NHL) I guess we would know...

My question is, why the HELL wasn't he pulled from the Penguins game the other night??? I'm a pens fan and was glad he wasn't but c'mon. Amazing goalie or not, he should've been yanked in the second period. Does he really wield that much power that HE decides when he comes out of a game? I was shocked. What could Sutter have been thinking? Devils fans, am I missing something here?

hehe, dunno about Brodeur, but Lundqvist has that power for the Rangers. Well he did before Torterella showed up...

I never said he isn't in the conversation, but come on...he had arguably the best defense in the last 5 decades in front of him for majority of his career...and right now when he doesn't have that defense he has to produce, and some nights he looks great and some nights he looks complete awful, take the last 7 games the Devils have had for example.

Patrick Roy was an asshole, but you know what...he was a little instigator like Brodeur but Roy dropped the gloves, Brodeur expects everything to be handed to him.

I just found this thread and I am sorry for the latenes. But I am sick of this argument that Broduer only won becuase of the defense. Roy had a great defnese and offense in a lot of his wins. Do you think he would have won all those games if they were not scoring 5-6 goals a night for him, but I guess that is ok. Marty is one of the best to ever play the game.

Exactly it is early. Every year this team is counted out. Every year they have a strong performance. I am not going to sit here and tell you that Marty is unbeatable. All I am saying is that he is one of the greatest. You cannot be average and win the amount of games he has, I don't care what defense or offense you have in front of you

Lol. Sorry Marty. I forgot that if you get married at 19 you usually end up banging your sister in law unless you are a saint. I actually don't really give a shit what he does on or off the ice. Just poking fun at him because it's so easy.

I'm pretty sure Gomez, Elias, Sykora, and Gionta held their own against Forsberg and Sakic

Don't forget both teams had Claude Lemieux, interesting.

But from this season alone, I might sound bias but Lundqvist has been the best. Fleury and Ryan Miller have been monsters as well.
