pretty good indication (sorry if it has been posted earlier)...

Lou, Arlington, VA: If you could have any artist on the show -- dead or alive -- who would it be and why?

Terry Lickona: Dead OR alive?? LOL...nobody has ever quite put the question that way. In the non-living category, I'd have to say that HANK WILLIAMS (the original, not Jr.) would be right up there. Among the living, the obvious names missing from our 35-year history include Springsteen and Dylan...not for lack of trying...but I've never been able to break the ice. There are so many classic acts, too numerous to mention, but it was a thrill last year to have REM on our stage, and we're looking forward to another breakthrough this year with Pear Jam...but don't tell anybody... ;-)

This is from a chat on pbs.org. Terry runs ACL and ACL Fest. I would guess PJ will do a taping the same weekend as the festival. Foo Fighters closed the fest Sunday last year and did a taping Monday night.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

Any chance they make it east of the Mississippi on this fall tour? Perhaps another October Alpine date?

I think Terry Lickona is referring to the ACL television show on PBS. There is ACL the TV show and ACL the giant festival. Dylan did the festival, not the show.

the food @ ACL is awesome. they have local vendors making everything fresh. my faves from last year were Stubb's, Wahoo's & Roy's Hawaiian Fusion.

edit: just saw this on the ACL msg board

According to AustinSoundCheck, The B-52s, Sonic Youth, John Legend and Thievery Corporation are confirmed for ACL.

Sonic Youth would be cool to see 8-)

I went to ACL for the first time last year and it won't be my last... regardless of who headlines this year!

It's just a bonus for me if it's going to be Pearl Jam! I haven't seen them since 2006... when I moved from PA to TX. And... it's on my birthday weekend!

Maybe a bit off topic but does anyone think one of the potential additional shows could be at Red Rocks in Colorado? I'm not sure what the weather is like in that area in September but I've always wanted to see a show there and pearl jam would be enough for me to make the trip.

thats a great idea. they should do some of the more "scenic" venues like red rocks, alpine and the gorge, although i could see people wanting them to play seattle proper again. i also want an excuse to take another trip out to jones beach.

Red Rocks would be amazing. I was thinking of that a couple months ago, how maybe instead of doing one night at the Pepsi Center again, they could do 2 nights at Red Rocks (even though you know it will be all the same people both nights!). However Red Rocks in late Sept/early October has the potential of being very cold for an outdoor show. It could be nice weather, but it could also be pretty damn cold.

Let's make a deal...how about August Red Rocks shows? :)

Also 3 nights at the Pearl Theater in Vegas. I would prefer to go to either of those than a big festival.

BUT if ACL ends up being the only SW date this year, I would try to go to that! We need some dates man!

Yeah, that was my thought...it could be cold in that area in September. It gives me thoughts of the "ice bowl" show at Alpine Valley in 2000. I think that show was in October. I remember it was snowing when I drove to the Detoit 2000 show only a few days before the "ice bowl" show.

Yes, I don't think it would quite hit Ice Bowl proportions (does anyone remember what the temp was during the show? 20 or something?), but really, Colorado outside of Denver in October? That could definitely be in the 30s or something at night. It won't be a fun time, temp-wise.

Actually, Speaking of Vegas... A DJ on the radio here ( i live in vegas) about 3 or so weeks ago mentioned the new Joint at the Hard Rock is heavily rumored trying to get PJ fall time....it makes sense because the new joint is suppose to be really nice and opening in April...we'll see!
