Goo Goo Dolls

Goes hand in hand with my popular bands thread. You tell people you like Goo Goo Dolls and people look at you funny. Or to clarify, music snobs, look at you funny.

It may not be popular but the Goo Goo Dolls are great. Name, Slide, and Here is Gone, Broadway, Black Balloon.

These are killer songs. I never as into Iris though.

I think they made some amazing music.

I loaded 700 songs into my ipod for a trip and whenever the Goo Goo Dolls came on I was rocking. Have been a fan since the beginning. Superstar Carwash kicks a$$!
If you have a chance to make life better for others, and fail to do so, you are wasting your time on this earth.

    Roberto Clemente.
  • I'm not ashamed at all to admit I'm a fan of theirs. I've been listening to them since Hold Me Up first came out back in 1990 and they were still living in Buffalo. Actually, the one question that I would love to ask them is whatever happened to the Incredible Lance Diamond. I wonder if he's still alive?

    Fixed.

All those songs you mentioned were on their older albums. Now, they're about as soft and cheesy as you can get. I loved "A Boy Named Goo" and "Dizzy Up The Girl" and still think they are great albums. But after that they started making music that would qualify more as "adult contemporary" or something of the sort.

Sadly, these days they're about as rockin' as The Fray.

I love A Boy Named Goo! But really, the bassist needs to never ever sing. Ever. The songs he sings on are taken down a notch for me because he's so bad.

I'm pretty sure that he only sings the songs he writes... And that's cool with me... I think I would wanna sing the songs that I write too.. Much more personal than having someone else sing them.. Even if they are a better singer... +1 for Robby

I like alot of the goo goo dolls songs. They are a decent live band as well. I saw them open for Bush (along with No Doubt) on their sixteen stone tour.
I saw the Goos do a headline show on the "Dizzy up the girl" tour with Sugar ray and Fastball opening. Again solid show, but haven't had a chance to see them since and that was 10 years ago. Damn time flies.

I'm a fan of them. I don't care what people think either. They put on good shows too, Ive seen them a couple of times.
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.

The Incredible Lance Diamond passed away about a month or so ago, I believe. Big loss for the overall local scene here.

    I do to.

Took my son to see them about 8 years ago- was his first show.

I kinda wanna smack the barefooted bass player, but there are definitely worse bands out there.

I didn't mind Gutterflower as well as Boy Named and Dizzy.

Dizzy up the girl was a Pop Album… Good album but definitely Pop.
  • I would agree with the suggestions about the Goo Goo Dolls being a pop band; however, I feel their music has a certain quality to it that isn't typical of pop music.

Gutterflower was a decent album too and Big Machine is a tune that sounds good loud.

Their bass player, Robby Takac, is annoying. Put some shoes on, man. Thank Gawd he made it as a rock star because if he had not... he'd still be a virgin.
