Hartford 06 worst show I've seen - hopefully better this year!

Why though?! Everyone keeps saying it was terrible and not why.
And before his first step... He's off again...

I was there, along with various other shows in the area in 2006. Ill be there again this year along with both msg's, mansfield (hopefully twice). The show was just fine in my opinion. The venue is getting a bad reputation for no reason. There is no problem with the place, i had a great time even though the weather was kinda rough. I think people are blaming the weather that night on the venue. the venue is fine and the show was good too. Dont buy into the hype.
  • why not just goto all 3 if not then definately goto both MSG shows!

May 13,2006...Hartford,CT back on the map!!!
  • i dont think the venue was bad. they had some great beer tents and aside from the weather, it was a decent night. set was not bad. shorter due to the fact that it wasa bit cold out and it was the night after the blew the roof off albany.
anyways, my seats at 223xxx were good enough and i even moved back a few rows to sit with friends.
i think this whole board has been obsessed with seating...
be greatful that you will even be there and enjoy it with your friends.

for those that have been there...

were there any problems with the tickets like at the DTE Music Theatre in detroit in '03?

06/25/03 - DTE Energy Music Theatre: Clarkston (Detroit), MI
    support act: Buzzcocks
soundcheck: In My Tree (various parts), Tremor Christ, Red Mosquito, U
preset: The Kids Are Alright (Ed solo)
set: Animal, Gods' Dice, Rival, Save You, Glorified G, Breath, I Am Mine, Love Boat Captain, Even Flow, Help Help, Nothing As It Seems, Given To Fly, Lukin, Corduroy, Daughter/(WMA)/(Atomic Dog), Evacuation, Rearviewmirror
enc 1: Crazy Mary, I Believe In Miracles, Elderly Woman, Bushleaguer, Do The Evolution
enc 2: Soon Forget, Baba O'Riley, Yellow Ledbetter
notes: Modified lyrics for 'Glorified G:' "Got a gun, fact I got two. That's OK cause I love Ted ..." (undoubtedly Ted Nugent). 'Elderly Woman' is dedicated to Kalamazoo. At the top of the encore, Ed thanks the folks in the back "where the real people are." (Many of the close seats in the front did not go to fan club members due to season ticket holders at this venue.) He speaks of how they almost didn't play because of all the ads in the venue. "I ain't playing for Pepsi ... Miller Lite, now that's a beer ... I could piss in a cup and give it to this guy and he'd like it better ..." He talks about big corporations buying up media everywhere and how the government is "playing along." "They'll start telling you that blue eyed people are smarter and that war is a good thing ... keep an eye on these guys. Or they might just bombard you with Sheryl Crow music ... I think Sheryl Crow is sponsored by Big Boy, isn't she?" After 'Crazy Mary,' he thanks those who showed up early to see the openers: "Here's a toast to you!" and he thanks the Buzzcocks, leading to 'I Believe In Miracles. The show appears to end with 'Baba' when Mike again starts in on 'YL'.

my buddy bought tickets through ticketmaster for the second night and actually got way better seats than my 10c got me.

anyway, this is the one show for sure i'm going to so i just wanted to know if this could happen.

    Esther's here and she's sick?

hi Esther, now we are all going to be sick, thanks

I just don't understand how anyone could say a PJ show was the worst they've ever seen. When I'm at a PJ show I enjoy every minute of it and I'm on such a high afterwards. I never think... "man that show sucked". I've seen them 7 times and could see them a million more and never get tired of it!

I'm just thankful they are still together and putting on shows!!!

    The show was great!
The only problem with the venue was that the sound on the lawn was not very good at all. It was just one little speaker hanging from the amphitheater roof. The show itself was great, as Ed said "The real name of the song is I Got Shit, but it could be called I Got Shit Tickets"

I have this bootleg. I guess I need to dig it out and give a listen for myself. I don't plan on having lawn seats as long as I'm able to get 10C tickets. Do you know how many people this place holds?

i was there in '06 and had a blast. the venue is fine don't worry about that. my number is 354xxx and my seats were great (relatively speaking). almost dead center, a little on stones side, and in the middle grouping of seats (probably 50 rows total from the stage).

Oh, and at the 25th row, were you able to have a view at all? I'm guessing that since it's an amphitheatre, that all the seats are on a rise and that you're not on the "floor" staring at the head of the guy in front of you.

i grew up in CT and went to the Dodge many times over each summer. at the 98 show, although i did not attend friends of mine did, they had a lot of problems with cops. they felt the crowd was out of hand and used tear gas and rubber bullets. a common practice for the cops to do YEARLY at the dmb shows. when eddie talked about paying local communities for playing for 4 hrs, that was the Mansfield 3 show of 03.

the only "bad" seats there are in the 400 section right against the wall, and on teh other end. your sightlines might be blocked by speakers. the lower part of the lawn isnt great either. everyone is bunched up to see the show, but cant see past the last row of seats when people stand up. my advice, stand mid lawn range. good clear view, able to see the large screens, and a good time all around. i was at 06 and chilled mid lawn behind 500 section and had a blast. cant wait for this years show!

It can hold up to about 25,000 people with the lawn. And it's not a bad venue. It is getting a bad rap for no reason. The weather sucked in '06, cold and damp, but it was still a good show.

As long as you have seats (which with 10c tickets would be no problem) it will be an enjoyable experience.

my bad, like i said i wasnt there....and teh rubber bullets are reserved for the "riots" at DMB shows...

also note that if you go to Hartford shows...the city has put a ban on tailgating....but it doesnt mean it doesnt happen....

I imagine getting tickets for Hartford will be easier than getting tickets to either MSG show.

I think the same will go for most of the other shows as well (except for boston).

i know the 06 show TC tix sold out pretty quick, but it had been 8years since they played the state.

the ban comes from a girl who was hit in the face with the rubber bullets a few years back at a DMB show. She was an innocent bystander, and I believe she lost eyesight where she was hit, since then, no tailgating.

With those kind of odds, you should be playing PowerBall...its about the same to hit that as it is to only see YL 2 times out of 9 shows, for most folks it averages out to 8 out of 9. :D

I've only heard Yellow Ledbetter once out of 7 shows! The first time I heard it was show #6 out of 7. And I was lucky Mike played the Star Spangled Banner at the end. It was great! And I've only heard Rocking in the Free World once, at the last show I went to. I personally prefer that song over any of their closers.

I remember hearing about that. I think they enforce the no tailgating more in the Dodge parking lot. I know for the 06 show we parked at the BMW place just down the road and didnt have a problem.

  • Can someone tell me how far the venue is from the closest major airport? Thanks.

It's about 25 minutes from Bradley (Hartford/Springfield - it's actually in Windsor Locks, CT) to Meadows.

The venue itself is your basic outside amphitheater...they say tailgating's not allowed but as long as you're of age and not being destructive the cops will basically leave you alone.

was there for the 06 show, good show, decent venue. the downside for me was bathroom location. Was sitting about 20 rows from stage in the middle and the bathroom was a bit of a trek.
another good thing about the 06 show was the CCFA meet at Sweet Janes before the show. They also organized a bus ride from Sweet Janes to the show and back for $10. Well worth it. On the way back from the show there were some people that just got in to the bus not knowing where it was going, pretty funny. the driver's name was Mary. Anyone else here remember this?
Sweet Janes also had a bunch of clips from Touring Band, Pink Pop and the Unplugged show playing on a loop.
The downside to the bus was we didn't get there early enough to score a poster. All in all, a good experience.

I believe 1996 was the first year... I've lived just north of Hartford for 20+ years so I've been going here since it opened.

The first few years this was a Tickets.com venue as the promoter, Jim Koplick (sp?) wanted to get Pearl Jam dates and knew in 1996 that they weren't playing ticketmaster venues...

The 1996 show had people rushing the gates/barriers from the lawn into the pavillion and that's when the pepper spray was used... I was about 25 feet up the lawn dead center and watch it all... Haven't been on the lawn for a show since... Pavillion or I stay home...

Also Ed stopped the 96 show for a bit while things calmed down, the crowd surfing was out of hand and the venue has bolted down seats... Ed commented it like surfing on coral reefs...

As far as the DMB rubber bullets, I believe they are referring to I believe that it was the son of morning talk radio host Ray Dunaway on WTIC AM 1080 that got hit in the eye with the rubber bullet... This, as the story I heard goes, happened because the Hartford police were sweeping the free city owned parking lots DURING the the show when everyone was supposed to be in the show. The year before they had problems with more people coming to party in the lots than go to the show and there was alleged to be some sexual assults that happened then, so the powers that be wanted the lots empty and those people didn't want to leave and resisted the police...

As far as the 2006 PJ show goes it was awesome... CCFA great party downtown at Sweet Janes with bus service to and from the venue...

One final thing... Koplick has a ticket club that for $300 bucks you get first dibs on all the shows at his venues, of which the Dodge/Meadows is one... I'm curious how the 10C tickets will be impacted by this...
