Just wondering, I have read that AIG is to big to fail, so if they are to big to fail, why not split the company up and put regulations into place that prevents any one company from becoming to big to fail. It seems to me that throwing all this money at them will not prevent this from happening in the future.

As far as Obama goes, I would think being president means providing solutions to problems, not just giving other people's money away and holding town hall meetings and appearing on the tonight show.
Both Bush and the lord OBAMA have had a HUGE part in the gazillions of dollars going out to bailout a bunch of theiving pieces of shit...both administrations have made decisions as to where the bailout money is going.....

you know it....and i know it.....

its not a BUSH thing anymore....
But it's just too fun to blame his derelict, monkey-looking, Texas loving, incompetent, failure ass.

and my personal opinion which is what this debate will be filled with anyway, opinions, is that this still is a Bush thing...I'm assuming you've been around the past 8 years to realize what shit-pile Dubya buried our noses in?

Don't make Obama your pinata, the guy came into an office with a SHIT-LORD..err...I mean LOAD of things to be sorted out. I along with many others in this thread will have to agree that your hatred is wrongly directed...

But in 2-4 years if the economy rebounds and investors and people with 401ks are making money then we probably won't care about it much.

If we are still in the shitter and the stories come out, then it will be a huge deal.

One thing i am sure of....

    in about 2-4 years...maybe sooner...

we will all hear the stories of how many millions and millions and millions of dollars that the lord savior Obama gave away as bailouts.....

was stolen, misused, and just pocketed by individuals....

No doubt. It cracks me up when people say the bailout isn't a big deal because it's just a loan and the banks and companies getting money will pay it back. The hell they will. We will never see any of that money again. This whole thing is a crock of shit.

So now he says he is going to honor warranties on GM and Chrysler cars if they won't. Doesn't he mean that I am going to honor them? I'm the taxpayer. Or is he paying for this out of his own pocket?

Our country was bankrupted a long time ago. The only difference is Obama's wasting the money on bailouts instead of Iraq contracts and he's doing it openly instead of trying to pretend we can one day pay it off like the last guy did.

So I've heard about the women over there... Heard they're really tough to impress, though. I had a friend who lived there for a couple of years who is pretty smooth with girls in general. He's bounced all around the world, currently lives in Taiwan after doing tenures in Japan and Spain, and he said the Spanish women were by far the hardest to get in with. His advice would be to brush up on the Spanish as much as possible. He found that most of them didn't even want to talk to him or even look at him if he couldn't speak to them FLUENTLY. Maybe you've got some skills though :)

Actually, come to think of it, another guy I knew was stationed there for a few months while in the Air Force, and he had no problems with the ladies-- and this guy barely knew any Spanish. It could be that "American G.I." thing that the movies would have you believe is an unstoppable force against foreign women? Somehow, I think that's probably worn off quite a bit in the past 5 years.

far more fucked than most care to acknowledge, unfortunately.

just easier to turn a blind eye and pretend i suppose. being realistic becoming increasingly

Hi, ok, stop throwing the word "bonus" around like its something extra. "Bonus" in the finance industry is synonymous with "commission" in the sales industry.

Also, $165 million (the amount awarded as bonuses to AIG peeps) is pocket change to the US gov. 2007 tax revenues were $2.5 TRILLION. So $165 million, which isn't even close to a BILLION, let alone one or two or 2.5 TRILLION, is .0066% of 2007 tax revenue. Again, that's ONLY tax revenue from 2007. And, assuming no one here is a millionaire, most of those tax dollars came from the rich and corporations. So don't act like it's a whole bunch of your money or something. Just to put it in perspective.

Ok, down to this bonuses thing; AIG is a finance company. People who work at finance companies are paid a base salary, and then are awarded bonuses for the amount of quality profit they bring to the company. It's kind of the same way sales commissions are awarded to sales people; they get extra money for making sales which bring money to the business. Said bonuses are practically guaranteed to employees once good deals are struck and profit is brought to the companies, so the bonus money was due to the employees. AIG base salary is probably around $80,000 (lower tier employees) to maybe $125,000 (higher tier employees). These are just estimates from my head (I'm a finance student and hear about jobs in finance all the time), forgive me if they are off. Finance employees work every single day for maybe 10-14+ hrs a day. Take a second and read that again. That's 98 hours a week max. To deny them their bonuses (i.e. commission), which were accumulated from their hard work week after week BEFORE the company crashed, is a crime in itself.

The employees at AIG did not cause the financial crisis, so don't try and peg them with that. Financial institutions got anally raped by the security backed mortgages mainly because they are the buyers and sellers of those securities; so when everything crashed they were stuck holding the worthless securities. Hence their value went to trash. Hence why they needed some help to get back on track. It would be a shame to let the employees at AIG, intelligent, hard working individuals, get sent to the streets because they were left holding the ticking bomb when it exploded. Also, letting AIG fail would create a domino effect and a lot of other people would get f@cked in the process (someone else already pointed that out); that was the government's main incentive to "bailing out" AIG.

So before you start screaming that the employees at AIG need to be "dragged through prison" or whatever other garbage you all were posting about, get informed about the facts. It's reasons like this that the gov can't do the RIGHT things sometimes, because the ignorant country interprets it wrong and labels it as WRONG, and then cause an uproar etc etc.

    Any other questions???
