As far as I know. All shipments are pre-paid to your door by the 10C. You paid your shipping when you ordered the box set. Any additonal brokerage fees will be billed to the 10C

    That is not true.

It all depends what value the 10C declared on these. The brokerage fees can be a real bitch.

would you really want to trust the box set to regular mail for international shipments? I didn't think so.

I dunno - but I agree UPS Ground are the worst - they have held me random at the door for $100 on an item worth under $200 with all their fees. Sorry, but I would be prepared for the worst with those brown shorters.

But they are not alone. FedEx is just as bad. The only option to avoid a brokerage fee is to send the item by regular USPS mail.

I guess we should all be prepared to shell out somewhere around $68 in fees. OUCH.

I'm pretty upset by this turn of events. UPS doesn't really handle packages any better than USPS.

I was under the impression it was via USPS. If i'd know it was UPS i would of purchased it domestically.

It was pretty much the same to buy it domestically/from the 10c with FX and shipping. But ups will charge 40 dollars for the brokerage, plus the TAX!

If it was USPS it'd be 5 dollars brokerage plus tax (and Canada POST checks random packages, so they don't collection on everyone either).

Not to mention the UPS depot is not accessible to me by transit. Which makes it really difficult to pickup.

Fedex brokerage fee's while expensive are half the price of the UPS fees. UPS is the absolute worse when it comes to overcharging for brokerage.

The thing is if you ship using other UPS options like worldwide express (basically anything but standard shipping) they include the brokerage! We paid 30 bux for shipping, and I think it would of covered it. I've ordered from Discovery Channels website and they ship worldwide express on their dvd boxsets.

I'm really dissapointed in the 10c right now... they chose the worst option to Ship for Canadian customers and never gave any previous indication that it would be shipped this way (or I'd of avoided it like the plague).

    Ouch! :(

I guess it would be to much of a risk sending it regular mail, so how does that work, does UPS leave you a bill on your door before they hand you the package?

If you are home when they arrive, you pay them on the spot and then you can have your package. If you are at work, they leave you a notice and you have to drive to one of their distribution centres to pick it up, and of course until you pay the brokerage fees, they won't let you have your package.

They'll make you pay for it on delivery or pickup. Whenever you get your package, a bill that large they won't let you keep the package without paying it.

It's a shame. I think its done because USPS only covers up to 100 dollars for insurance. These vinyls are 130 US, so they go UPS for the extra insurance, but we come out the losers because the xtra fees are way larger than the insurance gap.

I don't get why US companies don't realize how bad UPS is for Canadian packages. I even send the 10c an email in 2000 when the shipped the tour cd's that way to let them know :(

It's a no win for the 10C. Either they ship USPS and people bitch because it takes the packages 3 weeks to get to most parts of Canada or they ship UPS and people complain because we get slapped with heavy brokerage fees.

That said, if they disclosed to us how they were going to send them or gave us the option at least ...

I am in the same boat as you. I was fully aware that these fees were likely and ordered anyway. I was willing to chance it. Who knows, if we are lucky, the 10C declares a value of at or below $46 so we don't have to pay customs. LOL.

They mailed my benaroya via USPS. Alot of stuff they would ship to Canada and mail via Canada Post. I hadn't seen them mail anything via UPS since 2000. I complained about it then, and since they stopped using UPS, I assumed I wasn't the only one and they changed methods.

I really didn't think they would use UPS to send them.

HMV has them for 219.99 which is close to my price after shipping/foreign exchange. But you add UPS fees on to that and I'm looking at 50-60 dollars more. ugh. If they'd of put that they were using UPS for shipping I'd of found another way to buy it. I have a very specific policy of avoiding UPS whenever possible.
  • I got the e-mail from UPS today also. I noticed that my street address is spelled incorrectly...looks like shorthand.
Do they use shorthand on their website or is it misspelled on my package?? I don't want it to get sent back because the street is misspelled ergo they will think my address doesn't exist. The postal code is right though.

I guess I need to look for the nearest depot to me now lol I know I won't be here when they come knocking on my door.

thats all i wanted and i dont think i'm asking a lot. i entered my p.o. box as the shipping address, the system accepted my order, and now, all of a sudden, it's being shipped via ups, and they don't deliver to p.o. boxes.

I seem to remember a couple of years back that something that shipped originated in Canada. I could be full of shit, but I remember a thread talking about the Canadian postmark and then wondering if they had a Canadian warehouse.

While I'm sure I'm just trying to think positive for my Canadian friends, it would be cool if the shipment originated in Canada for you because I think that would kill the brokerage fees.

Anyone know what the brokerage fee is on something shipped from USA to Canada for $8,000? ...just curious.

certain items that 10C mails out in bulk mail are transferred up to a company over the border inside Canada, which in turn then arranges for postage, but that has only applied in cases where the items originally had left 10C's offices and were destined within Canada. for European/International shipments, 10C ships their bulk mail to a European-based company that does the same thing. don't believe 10C has shipped anything via this method into Canada only to have it mailed back inside the States,...

I'm also pretty cranky with UPS being chosen. Like it was mentioned, if you're not home (which, if you have a day job, you probably won't be), you have to pick it up at their depot ... the closest depot to me is an hour and a half away. Nevermind the fact that my city has 2 UPS Stores. I recently had to deal with UPS and they told me that the stores are franchised out, and not a part of their shipping network. If I wanted the package to be sent to one of the stores, then I had to call them, get their "permission" to send the package to that particular store, then call the UPS line and tell them that such-and-such store said it was "okay". Which, of course, is not without its charges, nevermind the hassle and inconvenience of playing phone tag. I honestly don't know how UPS stays in business. It's all about what suits them and their time frame, as opposed to the customer's.

And now it looks like I'll have to fork over another ridiculous wad of cash in order to free it from the brown shirts?

    Lame.

Edit: UPS will also leave things in the snow. Like my Dad's $250 GPS unit. Wasn't damaged, thankfully.

Edit part 2: I hope Expedited means I don't have to go through the same crap I did earlier this year with my prior dealings. Thanks for the efforts, SLH/10C.

    hi,
We have pulled all of the Canadian UPS ground shipments and have reprocessed them so they will ship UPS Expedited. You will receive new tracking information tomorrow.

Thanks! From past experience I know alot of American retailers don't quite understand how UPS does things, so I appreciate the 10c in fixing this.

Now I just have to find out how to be home for the delivery :)

I just had a similar problem with UPS. I buy and trade high value posters all the time and had a certain poster mailed to me worth $450 US. The seller added the value to the package and i was anally raped with a $120 CAD fee. Long story short. I emailed the seller and he contacted UPS and lowered the value and i ened up paying only $12 CAD. Just an FYI for my Canadian buddies

this is all good if 10c is willing to change the value and contact UPS.

Keep your fingers crossed. Once again 10c didn't declare the value of the Ames Vs PJ Limited Edition Book which was worth $200.
