It's not the parents that have to live with the name. It is the kid.

yeah, but i guess unfortunately, the kid has no choice until he/she is legally able to change the name.

i live with my name.... it grows on you no matter how much you get made fun of as a kid.
Also I know a lot of people with "regular" names that hate them.

    Congrats on the baby.

I'm in NO position to say anything about the kid's name. I was teased badly as a kid for having a non-Christian/Western name. A lot of the immigrant kids I knew legally changed it because of that but I didn't. I just hated the harassing, not my name.

The kid will think its a 'normal' name because they will grow up with it.
There are so much worse names than that. You can make fun of any name.

I probably have one of the worst last names you could have, and yeah there were a few losers that teased me, but not as many as you would think. But there are always dick heads in life.

Anyway I dont mind the name. Each to their own

What's considered normal for a name anymore? Some normal names just plain suck...

Take then name John for example, I'd never name my kid that because it's so boring... Although it might be considered "normal"... Same with Mike and even my name Stephen... just kind of boring and dull.

Would I name my kid Vedder? Maybe if I could get the mother to agree to it... but since that probably wouldn't happen, no...

I do plan on using unconventional names for the children I do have eventually and if people don't like it they can fuck off.

    Grats OP on your baby.

I went to a school with someone of the last name Gaylord... he got picked on a lot... pretty shitty.
  • hey, at least it's a meaningful name. if he grew up and knew how much the guy he was named after means to the parents, he might end up loving his name. it might not be for you, but so what? it's not a terrible name. some people aren't that into it. i'm sure others hate the name "Frank" or "Sam" while others like it.
at least the name isn't something like Moxie Copilot or Bud-light. i'm sure we can all agree those names are total shit :D

and george costanza's an idiot

Congrats, OP. I don't hate the name in and of itself, but I can see it getting a little awkward when you're asked for the millionth time where it came from and have to explain that you're not some crazily obsessed fan who couldn't have Ed's love baby so you did the next best thing, but instead just liked the name. In the end it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, though, so feck em!
I smile, but who am I kidding...

Agreed....this is terrible....seems cool now i bet....cant see that thinking later.

Eddie...or Ed...fine...Vedder...well thats just too much. I bet everyone around you thinks it was pretty stupid....they just wont tell you.

    congrats on the kid!

we all have a PJ obsession here, but naming your kid vedder is pretty weird/creepy. eh, what do i know.
  • Congrats on your new baby!

I toyed with the Vedder idea myself and decided it just wasn't a good 1st name but to each their own. I went with Cameron Eddie instead ;)

I know of a guy that is named Lennon after John. I don't think it's bad! Better than Pr'shess (said like Precious) who drew my blood the other day! Or better than Anna Claire (all I hear when I say her name is "An eclaire" and I go into sugar fits!!) that my friend named her baby. Who's to say what is bad or good as long as you like it, who cares!

Congrats on the new baby but giving your kid the last name of your favorite singer is a bit weird and borderline obsessive/stalker. It's not a very flattering name and I can't see grade schoolers being too kind to a kid with a first name that strange. It reminds me of meeting Ed back in 2000 after the 1st Tweeter center show in Camden. He came out to shake all of our hands and this couple were there with a picture of their child that they named Eddie. They whipped the picture out and said something about how they had given him a picture of the kid in Texas at a show a few weeks prior. He seemingly had no recollection of this and also seemed somewhat weirded out. I know everyone who witnessed it was a bit weirdered out as well

It reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCs9PFYHTe8
