I'm sorry. But this is just ridiculous. A Pearl Jam t-shirt with the Volcom Stone symbol on it? Damn. How things have changed. Young Ed would be on the prowl to kick old Ed's ass for this.
What's wrong with Volcom? or Hurley?
Volcom (and Hurley) both started their companies in and around the Orange County surf/skate scene. They gave out their t-shirts to surfers and skateboarders for free advertisement. Volcom and Hurley give a ton of money to the SurfRiders Foundation and now sponsor surfers and skateboarders as well as surfing and skateboarding events.
Don't blame them them because landlocked dufuses buy the shit.

What's the difference between this and Eddie teaming up with Quiksilver on his East Coast solo tour? :?
Isn't quicksilver another brand that started with the skater/surfer scene a long time ago?
...
Yes, they were... they all were... Quicksilver, Volcom, Hurley, Roxy, Ocean Pacific, Kanvas by Katlin... they were all started by people who would rather surf or skate or snowboard and sell t-shirts, than sit in an office cubicle, like me. They would give their stuff away for free to surfers and skateboarders who would wear them and end up in pictures in surfing or skateboarding magazines.
Hurley started out as a surfboard maker and used his t-shirts to advertise for his boards. Following in the footsteps of Hobie.
Sure, some of them get gobbled up by monster corporations like Nike or Rebok... but, can you blame them? If someone came up and offered you 5.5 millon dollars for your little t-shirt business... what would you do?
..
I just get tired of all of this... "Pearl Jam... Corporate Sell-out" stuff. There's a reason why these companies become successful.. usually because their stuff is good.

People need to stop being part of the haters club. These cats got into the music biz to make money and share their rare talent to the masses. If you were working as a cook at a dive but had a talent for satisfying pallets and were offered a six figure a year job and part ownership of a 4 star place but you have to put ur partners ideas in it too. Would you take the job and everything that comes with it or stay with the dive place because you wanted to stay real???? Everyone in this place sell's out in one way or another on something. I sold out when I purchased the doodlebops for my kids.....lol.
In my lifetime, I have conquered the Multiverse by force of trUth.
The whole "young Ed would kick present Ed's ass if he saw this" argument is as fucking dumb a thing as I've ever heard. If you don't personally know them, don't act like you know their brain.
c'mon pumpkins are on visa ad's, Wilco on VW (i think), Sonic Youth with starbucks... the only person I can think of that hasn't licensed music to a company or something similar (like a shirt) is Neil Young for godsake. One t-shirt deal doesn't mean they have 'sold out'.
Ed would have done this with a promise of a chairty being involved somewhere. Sometimes when a band has so many fans their is only one way to do something (especially when they don't technically belong to a record label).
As I read your thread I am wearing a volcom T right now... BTW their slim fit T's are usually of higher quality also (nicer cotton, softer, sometimes organic) and fit great! Volcom is a great company and I am glad to see Pearl Jam partner with them... Hell, At least the shirts will be properly sized and feel great (No offense to whoever the 10C uses normally for their PJ T's)
I'm sorry. But this is just ridiculous. A Pearl Jam t-shirt with the Volcom Stone symbol on it? Damn. How things have changed. Young Ed would be on the prowl to kick old Ed's ass for this.
There are some people here who complain about everything! Young Ed kicking Old Ed's butt, etc. People grow and mature over the years and even change their opinions over time. Fans here jump on any chance to criticize the band for their choices. Hey, go start your own succesful band and do what you want or protest what you want, but none of us have the right to complain about the business ventures PJ gets into. They are doing what all people would do. Making music and money at the same time! You know they do much more for their fan base than most other groups do. Let it go, people and go listen to some PJ! Its OK for them to make decisions for themselves. Are they going to stop because of complainers... NO! get over it and move onto better things. Surely we can find better things to do than discuss whether the band has sold out or not. Its pointless to speculate that. If they have or haven't shouldn't change your ddaily life at all.

I'm writing from my phone so I can't post a picture but check the home page they have a link to shirt, but basically is a old black and white picture and a little stickman on the back.

The length that some people go to complain about this type of stuff is ridiculous. Like it or not, Pearl Jam IS a business... they need to make money like every other business does. If you had a rabid fan base like they do wouldn't you try to capitalize on that by marketing yourself a little bit every now and then?
I would say that teaming up w/ Volcom vs. putting your songs on a Visa commercial are almost worlds apart... mainly because a t-shirt doesn't compromise your material like having a song on a commercial which takes the song completely out of context.
I'm a strong believer that fans should stop holding them under the gun for everything they do, say, eat, or shit... None of you realize how much you put this band under a microscope... Just let them be for fuck sake...
This isn't really directed @ the original poster but more or less people who just bitch about mundane shit like this to no end.
"The 7” record features smokin’ previously unreleased live versions of “Even Flow” and “Porch”. Both tracks are extended live versions of the original studio recordings, stretching into the seven-minute range. “Even Flow” was recorded in August 2005 at Adam’s Fieldhouse in Missoula, MT and “Porch” was recorded in July 2006 at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, OR."
If you don't like it, don't buy it. They can do what they want as far as I'm concerned.
But as others have pointed out, they ARE a skating and surfing company, and the band members DO skate and surf. So it makes some sense, right? It's not like they coming out with the TEN edition Victoria Secrets G-String w/ the Stickman logo on the front (that would be kinda' nice, though).

I refuse to wear clothing that has the name or logo in plain site. I refuse to advertise for a multimillion dollar corporation. Just my own rant about fashion....I could care less who puts out their T's. I do however loathe those who wear volcom, hurley, roxy, etc....My friends brother is in some band that is sponsored by Volcom...They have some famous x game dude in the band....Jack Endino maybe?

I know where you're coming from... and that's cool.
But, logos are everywhere. If you wear any type of athletic shoes, chances are... there's a logo on it. And Levi 501 jeans have a tag and a patch. Hell, even Dickies work shirts have a Dickies name tag sewn on. And Tony Hawks stuff has his name or logo on them. And i have a closet full of Pearl Jam T-Shirts with giant 'Pearl Jam' logos on them.
Personally, I don't mind wearing stuff with logos on them as long as they do what they are supposed to do... keep me warm and dry. I don't go out looking for specific types of clothing... but, if I happen to find something on a clearance rack that has a logo and it's cheap and it fits and I want it.. i'll buy it.
...
I also like to wear Team Jerseys... like I have a Johnny Unitas and Bart Starr jersey... not because I like the multi-million dollar NFL... but, because I like Johnny Unitas and Bart Starr.

Not for nothing, but I would think Pearl Jam/10c could easily be considered a multimillion dollar company, they just make and promote music and not skateboards or clothing.
