Pinstrps wrote:I think backstage passes would be cool for members of the Ten Club but those passes should be free. Joe Satriani does this on his site. Members put their name on a list to whichever concert they are going to and names are pulled out at random to win these passes. It's fair and would be a very cool thing to do in my mind.
But what about seniority?
I can understand the seniority thing here but after a while it would always be the same people getting backstage passes.....I think a random pull of names of 10C members who are listed as going to that particular show would be much better. Free meet and greet passes....which would include autographs and pics of course. Even if they just pulled like 2 or 3 names from the list....that would be way cool.
I would not however pay 250 for something like that though.

Did you just give Poison as an example on a Pearl Jam FanClub board? Really?

With the NIN meet and greets/soundchecks it was random at every venue....and you didn't pay extra but the membership was $60...a little more than the 10C. You weren't allowed to take photos but you could get one signature from each member of the band.
Either way...IT JUST WILL NEVER HAPPEN WHEN IT COMES TO THIS BAND.
There is just to big of a crazed fanbase.

i used to supervise a number of m&g in arenas for bands like metallica. theirs were free and many times m&g were reserved for for record company people. rolling stones at msg were the craziest. tons of pipe&drape booths for different groups of people. however when i've been backstage at pj shows, they do a "lockdown". that means no one hanging around. no one anywhere.. and the last shows at msg there was a lot of little kids & women so i'm assuming that's the band's families... so with their families on tour i'd say 0% chance they'll do it

Sell???? M&G free, chosen randomly. Like NIN as mentioned, Cornell, etc.
I don't think families are an issue. M&G's don't have to be backstage - can be anywhere.
That's true. It depends on the arena though. Most of the time a M&G happens in an expo-hall with a draped temporary wall, for convenience. It would be really cool if they would just randomly choose a few people each show... but again, it depends on the personality of a band on whether or not they do that.

Didnt mike meet some competition winners on the last tour? for a coffee morning or something i think.
Metallica are doing this meet and greet stuff on the current tour, not charging i think just fan club members and comp winners.
I would pay a small fee to meet the pj guys if it went to charity, but otherwise nah.
A friend of mine recently won a meet and greet with Metallica through Metclub and got a phone call from Kirk Hammett on his birthday, he had a great time and he was stoked to get the call... personally I thought this was great (I know my friend well, he more than enjoyed meeting Lars Ulrich  ) but I certainly wouldn't pay for the privilege.
At the end of the day, they're just people. Why would I pay to meet another human being? :? Sure it'd be great to tell Ed how his lyrics have changed my life and sure i've love to give Stone a big hug but jeez, if it's gonna happen, it will and it'll be by chance or if I win a competition. (note - I wouldn't have a problem paying a small amount to enter a competition if the proceeds went to a charity such as wishlist foundation). I just don't understand how people (as in, the bands charging and the fans paying) can justify it if there's no charity involved.
Insanity.

Yeah, apparently it's something Metclub do... pick out a random fanclub member and get a member of the band to call them on their birthday! Pretty neat

Either way...IT JUST WILL NEVER HAPPEN WHEN IT COMES TO THIS BAND.
There is just to big of a crazed fanbase.
And to think that Pearl Jam has more 'crazed fans' then say NIN or Metallica is just silly IMO.
Thank you for bringing this up. There aren't more Pearl Jam fans but they are a bit more obsessive/psycho at times. I have a friend at a pretty big radio station and they actually joke about Pearl Jam fans and how nuts they are. Come on...someone invented the term Jamily. How awful is that?
Bottom line is, from an interaction standpoint Pearl Jam are about as inaccessible as it gets. They give us cryptic messages through little birdies, newsletters with little info and interviews with people from OTHER bands (QOTSA interview anyone?), no meet and greats and as half of us have noticed the ticket prices have been rapidly escalating (the other half choose to defend the band and blame high gas prices). We also frequently get news after it leaks elsewhere.
I noticed Metallica mentioned earlier in this thread. That is an example of a band that is amazing to their fans. Their fan club is second to none and although it's $25 more than this club, you get a welcome package every year, a tshirt and 4 high quality magazines with tons of great info and really indepth interviews with the band, management, photographers, crew, fans and pretty much anything you can think of. They also pick 30 members per show for a meet and great and if you watch the videos on metontour, they actually spend time with each member taking pics, talking and giving autographs. I won one years ago and they were all so nice. Their store has exclusive merchandise and all other merch is offered at a discount (shirts from the recent tour are on sale for $13). Their tour ticket pre-sale system works PERFECTLY and I was actually able to pick my seats rather than wait till the day of the show and hopefully not be stuck in the last row. Anyone with GA tickets got in the building 20 minutes before everyone else. Tickets for the recent tour were also the exact same price as the 2004 tour and their stage setup is much more elaborate than the end stage pearl jam show with the standard lighting and backdrop. Eddie solo tickets were more money than Metallica tickets. If you have been to a Metallica show you will clearly see that there is something wrong with that.
I probably sound like an advertisement for the metclub but I just wanted to give you a comparison between the 2 fan clubs. I love both bands but to say that Pearl jam are great to their fans makes me cringe a little. I hate when people on here get pissed at others who voice a negative opinion. "How dare you question this band with all they do for you!". That is Big, Bold and Free BS.
And charging for a meet and great would be the most ridiculous thing ever. Why would you want to pay money to shake someone's hand and get an autograph or picture? As someone said, they are just humans. Thankfully this is something I can't ever see Pearl Jam doing.
no what a silly idea. I want to hear stories about people meeting eddie or jeff at a beach the day before a show or before a show... that would take the whole enjoyment plus that would turn it into a freak show or a circus.
I noticed that other bands/singers sell meet/greet tickets where you can meet them before a concert if you pay an extra $250 to $300.
I know I would pay $250 to $300 extra to meet Pearl Jam backstage before a concert. It would be awesome to be able to get my picture taken with the band and get an autograph. The Ten Club could sell a limited number of these tickets per show. Maybe have a small group of fans meet the band at the same time?
What do you think??
I think PJ members would have to deal with every douchebag that has the extra money to spend to meet them!
that is a horrible idea that they would never do.
cmon pj is not poison they don't have or need to do this...we pay for there live shows anything else is extra.....I am happy with getting good seat for a decent price. if i was to pay $500 to shake eddies hand and say"hey how are you man" I would think myself and the whole band had selled the fuct out or what happened to all there money?
Thank god for early access to the Poison Merch booth
You should be able to score front row to any Poison show because there will only be about 50 of you there.
You've apparently never been to a Poison show. They get a decent crowd.
