I'm glad your team of all-stars beat up on our minor league pitching staff.

Yeah, well your pitching may have been less than stellar but your offense is pretty damn good.

You won by a run! It's funnier that Canada beat the Yankees and the Blue Jays beat the US team ;)
    Baseball still sucks.

pretty foolish of sony to only release this game on ps3. losing alot of $$$ not offering it on 360. no one is buying a ps3 just for mlb the show.
There are actually a lot of people out there who have purchased a PS3 exclusively for MLB The Show. I am one of them. I bought my PS3 last year the day after I got MLB 2K8 for the XBOX 360 and realized it was garbage. I sold my XBOX 360 and games as well as my Wii and bought a PS3 along with The Show. I have not regretted it. A friend of mine also sold his XBOX 360 to get the PS3 for The Show. Many people have done it and now that The Show 09 is so amazing a lot more people will be making the switch. Why would Sony develop a game that's playable on a rival system? Kinda defeats the purpose.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

Simply because they'd make more money as they access twice the original install base. That's why more and more 3rd party titles are multi-platform. That isn't to say PS3-only or 360-only games don't sell and make money, just a plausible explanation for any game that was to release on both (or 3).

Played it for the first time yesterday, incredible game. Definitely going to be picking it up soon. Can't wait for the season to start.

Yeah, that depends on who the developer is. It would make sense for a true independent developer to build a multi-platform game as everyone in the market can get their hands on it = big $.
Often those independent companies that do make exclusives do so because a company will write a contract with them with large sums of money to assure they develop exclusive to their brand name.
In the case of The Show, it is truly a Sony developed game. They don't want it multiplatform because it's a great game and they know it and it sells units (PS3s). That hardware purchase will also lead to more Sony purchases later (games, contollers, etc.).

There is so little to pull someone over from their other counsols. Cross platform games are pretty much identical, so they need to focus on their exclusives and they need to make them good. If you've already spent $300-$500 on a system, most people aren't going to get the other, or sell theirs off and get the competition unless there is something to sway their opinion. The Show has done that, and probably will continue to do so...
That is why it's not on the Wii or 360. (Oh and let's be honest here, the Wii couldn't pull off The Show)

I used to be a big xbox fan. However, I have gone through three of them and my current one just got the infamous "red ring of death." I have about had it with xbox and can't see myself replacing it, I will just stick with my PS3.

It also costs a large amount of money for companies to make games, and going multiplatform can also be justified for that reason.

I am on my 3rd 360 and my 5th PS3, although only 4 PS3s were faulty. Took some time and 1 PS3 to figure out that Sixaxis controllers are le garbage.

That's true, but I don't see an in-house developer (Sony in this case) releasing a game to the competition that sells more PS3s.
Just like how certain Microsoft developed and published games will never cross platforms, even though they'd sell a lot more copies.
Why most independent developers are cross plat. is because they make more money. If Sony or MS comes along and signed a lucrative contract with them, then they'd go or stay exclusive. Works for DLC too (See Grand Theft Auto and Fallout). Microsoft purchased the rights to exclusive DLC. Had they not spend the millions upon millions of $ to get the exclusive content, you can be certain that both systems would have that content because Rockstar and Bathesda would have made a lot of $ from it.

    Anyways...
Who wants to get a league going?

I've never done a league before and don't really know how they work. From what I've read so far, the online play for The Show is pretty bad with a lot of connection/lag issues. I'd be willing to do the league thing if the gameplay is decent. How exactly does the league setup work?
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

hey MCA, could you like give me the dummy's guide for baserunning? I played 2 games last night and could only figure out that L1 is the advance a runner, and that L2 is steal, but I can't figure out how to like advance a guy from first to 2nd and hold a guy at 3rd, or like move a guy from 3rd while keeping another on a base

I swear I've tried for about 2 hours and couldn't grasp it. I looked in the book and there are like 3 pages of instructions that all contradict eachother.

Also, a couple other questions you might be able to answer for me

How can you text your opponent during a game online? Some kid was asking me questions and I couldn't figure out how to respond

How come sometimes when you are pitching it doesn't give you the normal pitch mode, a ding just sounds and the batters box flashes red really quick?

How come when you make a pitch sometimes a 1/4 of the batters box flashes a red triangle?

    Hey Dan,
Sorry I can't be much help when it comes to baserunning. I usually just send everyone (I think that's L1), and will steal a base with an individual. I still have to refer to the instruction book at times.

To text your opponent during play, you tap the PS button (the one in the middle that turns on/off your controller and your PS3). This will bring up your cross-media bar. From there you can go over to your opponent's name, hit triangle and send them a text.
I usually just use my bluetooth headset for chatting.

While playing an opponent online, if they guess pitch only right, it will display a quick red box around the whole pitching zone. If they guess location right, there will be a red indicator in the location they guessed right.
If you are playing online and you hear that "ding" with the red box, that means the batter (your opponent guessed what pitch was coming and the location) if they guess the pitch and location it takes away your ability to alter the pitch in windup.

I usually play online with guess pitch off, but those games that I play with it on really aren't that much harder for me. Typically people that constantly guess pitch, will guess wrong and if they are swinging at one of my pitches after guessing wrong, they are not going to do much with it. Though when they get both guesses right and hit the ball 500ft. that kind of pisses me off! LOL :D

So the triangle thing you mentioned is to send a message is that just the thing on the far right of the bar

See, last night I was in the MLB Game and out of nowhere at the bottom of the screen I got a text from the guy I was playing in a blackbox. It was part of the game format or something, not a mail message on the playstation hardware platform. Is that then just converting his speech to text from his headset? I spent like 5 minutes trying to figure it out

How are your RTTS players doing?

In my rookie RTTS (starting pitcher) season I began as a reliever in AA. Got the chance to start a few games and kicked ass. Got promoted to long reliever in AAA. Played quite a few games there before finally getting a chance to start.
First start in AAA. Complete game, 4 hit shutout with 12k's.
I don't think I'll see the "show" in my rookie year though. I'm playing for the Royals, and they aren't doing well.
My only shot at the show this year is if they somehow make the playoffs and expand rosters or take a bigtime dive and bring me up for the hell of it since the season is all but over.
  • If anyone wants another person to beat up on in this game and pad their stats, go ahead and add me. I got my PS3 setup and playing over the weekend...just started a RTTS guy.

    My PS name is 'EvilMerlin'

MCA I friended you a couple days ago.

Here is my beef with the game though. When you play online during time hours, there is a little glitch right before you swing, it makes hitting so hard. I think my average is like .210. When the game slows down like that my opponents think I'm the one doing it and think I'm cheating or something. When you play late at night it works fine, but around 6-9PM it's pretty bad.
