Any PS3 owners pick this up yet?

Awesome game. If you are a baseball fan, and you own a PS3 you owe it to yourself to get this game. It's incredible!

If you have it, we should play! Send me an invite (same PSN name as the boards "mca47")

It's a ton of fun. I think you'll enjoy it.
Road to the Show is top-notch this year!

    Love the commercial ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VV4zxP00GLo

They totally stole the idea from that game commercial with Robert Brooks a few years back ...

Brooks - "Where's my break away speed???"

Programmer - "Um, our numbers show you've lost a step."

Can't find that video anywhere ... grrrr...
"You're one of the few Red Sox fans I don't mind." - Newch91

I was reading through the manual and it seems like they took a huge step forward in making it more real. Having the choice of your RTTS character to be drafted should be fun.

Yeah, I have two RTTS players going.

Starting Pitcher drafted by the Royals. Now in AA Arkansas with a 1.24 ERA and kicking ass.
3B drafted by the Astros. Still in spring training but doing shitty. .225 ave with 1 HR and 5 RBIs

Road to the Show is enough for a purchase for me. So good!

I have MLB The Show '08 and love it. Is '09 that much of an upgrade? I still have about 5 games collecting dust that I need to get to that's why I'm hesitant about picking up any new games. I also hear Killzone 2 is pretty sweet.

Yeah, they really upped it this year (PS3 version).

First of all and the most noticeable are the graphics. The players, the crowd, and the stadium are much better looking. They added progressive lighting. If you start a game at 4pm, you'll notice as the game goes on the sun will go down and the game eventually turns to night. It's really the little things they spent a lot of time refining.

In-game, walkup music. As long as it's on your harddrive you can put it in the game.
Lots of new options in Franchise mode and Road to the Show.

I picked up Killzone 2 right before I got The Show, and while it too is a great game...The Show will dominate my attention for some time to come. :D

I'm still rockin with NHL 09 for PS3. I think once baseball season actually starts, I'll have to check this out. I don't have the patience for these baseball games sometimes though, the games take way too long. I like in NHL 09 how I can play a game in 15-20 mins.

Yeah, I'm still playing NHL '09 too. Love 'Be A Pro'!
My guy is a second line RW on the Blackhawks. Been doing great lately!

What's cool about Road to the Show is that you get to skip past playing the whole game. You only play when your character is involved and the game will fast forward between...unless you are a starting pitcher then you have to play as much as you are in (which can be 5+ innings per start) and then you don't play every day like a position player (every 5 games and you only play the games you are starting).

Not too crazy abou the be a pro mode on NHL 09. My roommate does it and it's pretty brutal when you just have to sit on the bench and you have that shitty view. I'm liking the dynasty mode a lot better, but thats just me.

I'll definitely be checking out MLB 09 in a month or two coming up here.

Road To The Show is WAY harder than last year's version. I tore it up from the get-go last year but now I'm struggling to bat over .200 near the end of Spring Training. I really like what they've done but it can be a bit frustrating at times when I know I should be hitting much better than I am. The only thing I don't like is the new RTTS baserunning system - it is horrible. I'm so tired of the way it works that I have it set up to skip all baserunning scenarios.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

in NHL09 BAP mode you can control another player while "you" are on the bench. I did the whole realistic sit on the bench but once the novelty of it wore off, it got annoying

I love BAP mode. I usually do let my guy stay on the bench for a few seconds, just to get back energy, but he still plays more than any forward in the history of hockey ever has...

Also, after reading all the comments, I'm thinking that I need to pick up The Show.

NHL BAP on the bench isn't too bad. I like trying to time a perfect line change.

I'm looking forward to getting MLB 09 as it will be the first baseball game I've purchased in over five years (unless you count MLB Power Pros for the Wii).

In regards to Killzone, that game is awesome. As most of my gaming is done on the 360, the only issue I have is getting used to the PS3 controller. Killzone is a well executed shooter that is right up there with Halo, Half-Life, and COD4.

We should start a PJ-board league. Seems like there are (or will be) quite a few people on here with The Show '09, might be fun!

    no way dude!

pretty foolish of sony to only release this game on ps3. losing alot of $$$ not offering it on 360. no one is buying a ps3 just for mlb the show.

Really? Foolish, yet they've been doing it the last 4 years with great success.
I wonder if Sony was also foolish for only releasing (besides the best baseball game available) to PS customers:
    Metal Gear Solid 4
    Killzone 2
    Little Big Planet
    Gran Turismo
    Ratchet and Clank
    Uncharted
    Socom
    Resistance 1 and 2

    And upcoming...
    God of War 3
    Mag
    Infamous

The show isn't exactly the only thing worth considering a PS3 for.
  • rival.rival. Chicago Posts: 7,775
i am definitely not denying their success. but yeah, i think they are foolish not releasing it for both consoles. their success would be above and beyond in that case.

but i know you won't release every game ever made on all consoles avaliable. if that was the case, what would be the point of having multiple platforms on the market (push comes to shove, ps3 & 360 are a draw)?

but whatever, mlb 2k9 is garbage. i know the show is where it's at. i play it everytime i am at my friends apartment. i am just jealous i can't own a decent mlb game for 360.

    No way is it "garbage"...

I picked up both The Show for the PS3 and 2K9 for the 360 (like I do every year) and while The Show will get most of my playing time, 2K9 is a huge step in the right direction now that Visual Concepts took over development. If you had said 2K8 then I would've have been compelled to comment. All of my friends have a 360 so my main reason to get it was to play online since every game I've ever played of The Show online has had pretty bad lag.

Fact is, if The Show didn't exist then 2K9 wouldn't be looked so down upon. I'm still waiting for someone at Sony to introduce themselves to the analog sticks on the Dual Shock controller and realize the potential there.

    How's everyone's player doing?

    I have two going...

A starting pitcher drafted by the Royals (yeah...wasn't too happy about that). I'm in AA right now pitching out of the pen. I have a 1.70 ERA and kicking some ass

A 3B drafted by the Astros. I'm at the end of spring training right now. Started off really slow, but have picked it up of late...hitting .275 or so with 3 HR.

    I got mine at Gamespot.

Traded in Fallout 3 and The Show '08 for it.

You traded in Fallout but list Resistance 1, Socom and Ratchet and Clank as reasons to get a PS3??? I'd mention GT but it isn't even out yet ;)

    Yeah.
First of all we were talking about exclusives. The poster mentioned why The Show wasn't on 360 and said "well it would make a ton more money if it was".
Yes, that is true, but that is the definition of an exclusive.
    Anyways...
Fallout is horribly repetitive. Fun game, but it's pretty much the same damn thing over an over.
I beat the main story in practically no time at all. Went back and wanted to explore and open everything. Sure...the individual storylines can be different as you explore different areas, but it's all pretty much the same thing over an over. You hit level 20 on the PS3 and nothing will really get in your way. Raiders, slavers, super mutants...pretty much just one VATS load. Lame.
I was going to but didn't really want to spend another $60 (just got Killzone 2)...it adds up. So I looked at my games and realized that Fallout was more than expendable.

I traded in the last Need For Speed title I will ever buy last week because there was a promotion for value for it, and when I was buying Killzone later that week I saw EB's sign that said get Killzone for 9.99 when you trade in any one of these games - list of games including said NFS. Grr.
Fallout is a bit repetitive, the DLC raises the level cap (I stopped playing it when I found out it was being raised) but it is still excellent.
  • mca47mca47 Posts: 13,301
Most people I know who downloaded the DLC for Fallout on their 360s said that it was incredibly disappointing (and it seems most reviews agree).

Either way, and we should get back to the topic at hand...

MLB '09 The Show is f'n awesome! :D
