    everyone says see them live, so why not start with the live cd, "And All That Could Have Been"?

    I'm pretty sure it was this one that hooked me.. followed by Pretty Hate Machine... but I agree With Teeth is a good studio album to start with, very accessible..

    start with Downward Spiral...

    then do Ghosts I-IV

    Trent is at his best when he sways away from the angst music, Ghosts has some of the best instrumental arrangements and you get away from the cheesey lyrics that are annoying on some of the last few albums

    I agree to starting with Pretty Hate Machine...at the beginning. But I have to disagree that it isn't too dark. It isn't as heavy as TDS or Broken, but lyrically it's very dark.

    Compared to Broken, Downward Spiral and The Fragile, I would consider it the least dark and most accessible. All the albums after that don't seem to have that same darkness; I'm assuming since he cleaned up. I think his best work was from 89-99 personally.

    I can see what you're saying, but to be PHM is still very dark. It isn't nearly as aggressive or angry as his later work, more hurt and pained, but I still find it dark. But hey, that's just me!

    If we're talking favourite albums, then mine is The Fragile. Possibly my favourite album, full stop. I can understand why people don't like it, but to me it's an epic materpiece which would be incomplete without the intrumental songs which many consider to be filler.

    Disregarding the remix albums, none of which i've ever really liked, the only NIN work I have failed to get into is Ghosts. I own it, but I just don't seem to be able to love it like I love the rest of Trent's work. I started to love The Slip recently and I never really liked it when it was released.

    I love The Fragile. Every time I listen to any song on it I hear something I didn't hear the last time. Just Like You Imagined may be my favorite instrumental, right above A Warm Place.
