Picked this up on the day of release. I love it. But then again, I love all that Mastodon has done.

They are a diamond in the rough that is better known as the metal scene today. A lot of crap has been coming out, but Mastodon is a definite exception.

i grabbed it this week and really like it a lot. Great backing vocals even...something you don't really associate too often to a "harder" record.

I dont' know who the main vocalist is on this....is it Brent?

Either way, unfortunately I think I like it a little bit better than Troy...that being said I still love Remission and Leviathan.

Mmmm, Leviathan. I think I know what I'm going to play after Skye is done...:D

not a metal fan in any sense of the word but this is great stuff. any word on how they are on tour? i'd love to see this played live but I'm kind of wary of going to a metal show
Is anyone else peeved about the production work though? the sounds are not very distinct at all and it sounds terrible on my bose headphones. i hope brendan doesnt do this kind of work with pj.

mastodon's best albums definitely go in chronological order. they just keep on getting better and better!
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

Are you actually serious about the gig thing?

I don't think they have toured yet but the ticket price alone is worth seein Brann Dailor on the drums.

This album is more psyhcadelic rather than metal.

All I know of this band is the song they have on the Bonnaroo '08 DVD, but they impressed the shit outta me.

tickets are on sale now for their spring tour. it starts next week. I'm seeing them here in atlanta it was 19 bucks for the show (plus fees). They are going ot have a visual backdrop for the entire album. They will play crack the skye from start to finish then come back and encore with older stuff.

I go to lots of metal shows and have seen mastodon about 5 times. No need to be wary. Mastodon pits don't usually seeem too wild and if that is not your thing just stand to the back or side a bit so you don't have to worry about pushing people around. Just get ready to throw your horns in the air \m/ :D

i borrowed my roomates bose headphones last night to listen to the album and i thought it was fine. I have no complants about the production.

Brent does a lot of the vocals but as always they all sing some even brann sings on this album. Bill seems to be the one that sings the least here.

Brent did okay live but his vocals are not nearly as good live as they are in the studio, but i'm sure that is partly because he is killing it on guitar.

I saw them two summers ago. They played a free suprise show with Slayer and Children Of Bodom...Slayer was cool, blah blah blah. I am just a bit burnt out on them. When I heard of the show that day I immediately got super excited. I've been a fan of Mastodon since they released Leviathan and I discovered them. They were touring in support of it as it was their most recent release.

I'm just going to say that if you pass up Mastodon, you'll be missing out. They are great performers, they sound great, and their live performance is just powerful and rockin' as hell. Easily one of my favorite bands, and probably my favorite modern metal band. Now that they have more material, it should be even better. Crack The Skye live should be fantastic, I know Remission and Leviathan is...

Hope that helps your dilemma

All this talk of them live makes me want to see them again so badly  . Oh well, I'm sure I'll get the chance sooner or later.

You're from Atlanta, and so is my girl and we lived their together for a bit. I personally think them playing The Tabernacle would be AWESOME!!! We saw Incubus there and it was an impressive venue.

They played the tabernacle a couple yeras ago with Against Me & Cursive. What a strange show that was as far as the bands and their fans mixing. The show was good, but most shows at the tabernacle are :)

ah, The Tabernacle. One of the many things I miss about Atlanta...

I miss the trees more though, the southern weather, and all the random bodies of water....Utah is pretty bare and dry in certain areas....but I love the mountains here...and Salt Lake City is a great city, when you get to the heart of it that is...from an otuside perspective I can understand why people think of Utah (or SLC for that matter) as such a strange place..

I've been listening to this album going to and from work for the past two weeks now. Very much loving it, and I'm glad as I've never really gotten into the previous albums. I must give them another listen soon!

I have not been able to stop listening to this album. I am utterly blown away by it! Mastodon is quickly becoming my new favorite band. I'm seeing them live for the first time next week and apparently they're playing the new album beginning to end. Epic!!!
