I've had friends here in LA who've had great experiences with Curves.

Years ago my husband and I got sick of the sales pitch bs at Bally's and places like that (and I would have preferred an all chick place) and we said fuck it and bought a Lifecycle, for like the same $$ as the gym membership. And because it was so expensive, we forced ourselves to use it. Since then we've gained a treadmill and one of those weight machine things (yes our house is too crowded), but spending the money guilts us into using all the equipment. So that's our self-discipline.

Good for you! I'll be honest...I'm a total slacker when it comes to working out. I did sign up for Curves and have my first workout with a trainer tonight.

Got one that has just opened up near me, it is huge with lots of equipment.
$1000 annually or you pay $18 per fortnight, I shall join when I get back from overseas.
Time to put some muscle on!

a place by me opened up recently, called Planet fitness. it's $20 a month with no commitment, and $10/mo with a $60 fee. I want to go check it out, see if it's a decent gym. I used to go to golds, and it was $65/mo 5 years ago. you really have to be careful with gyms. One went under here on LI, and the members still had to pay for a gym that no longer existed. it was in the contract

I think I'm gonna sign up with them today, but I want to go see first. They seem to have a number of locations in my area, including one near work and one near home. Hopefully there's some reciprocity where I can use both.

yeah that's why I don't bother with gyms. Sometimes I would like to take a class just to make sure im using correct form (yoga, pilates) I do all my exercising at home. :)

exactly. their relentless, high pressure sales tactics really turn me off.
and i refuse to pay someone to tell me i should do more sit-ups.

though the structure is good for some, it's just not for me.
    Nice shirt.

The worst is when they are trained on how to go after guys. Like, 'how much you bench, dude?' Lay off!
