Pearl Jam: "Brother" Remember Pearl Jam's early days, before they became cranky hippies who forgot about things like choruses, and being entertaining? Those were good times. This dusted-off outtake, which appears on the upcoming "Ten" reissue, is a ragged reminder of their flannel-wearing, mojo-having infancy.

True 'dat. Although, I think EV solo got a decent review from them.

There's a reason they call them critics...

For the most part, I don't really trust anyone's music/movie/book reviews. People's tastes are so different, it's silly to assume that just because one person doesn't like something, you won't either.

  • The washington post is a pretty bad paper. Terrible articles if they're written by any of their staff, which isn't often. I get emails from then b/c of my high school gov class from a few years ago, and no matter what I do, they still send their filth my way. Almost as bad as Fox News...
  • My fav is the part where they say they aren't entertaining?????

Sounds about right. Rather, PJ remembers things like choruses and being entertaining, they just purposely keep the good songs off their albums and shove crap songs onto them instead in an attempt to be artsy.

It's not bad, but I've always felt like it's half of a song... like it was a great verse or guitar lick, but they never finished writing it. It's like it's building to something but they never bothered to decide what :)
  • I'm totally with you on God's Dice and Get Right. The two worst PJ songs on an album, IMO.

    love Evacuation though.

ah don't get so touchy about everyone who makes a negative outburst against PJ... Not everyone is going to like them. It was a weak attempt of being negative towards PJ anyway.

What confuses me is the fact that someone posts on a Pearl Jam message board and takes as big of a jab as they are trying to "be artsy."

I respect the fact that some people don't like them, but that's just bizarre to me.

Just because they're my fav band doesn't mean they're perfect or that I am going to smell their shit and say it smells like roses. They've shelved their best material in favor of mediocre songs for years now... even Ed admitted as much in an interview. They tried to pass it off as being an artistic thing before that. This is no secret.
  • D.C. is EVIL.....if you've been there you know what i'm talking about...The scrammbler screws with everyone's mentality.....As far as creativity...the band can do whatever they like, thats what ARt/Music is..To disect everything is a sign of creating a BOX OF FEAR..we never listen to the voice inside....My ZERO sense...

the Washington Post definitely does not suck..one of the top 3-5 papers in America

just cause one cranky, uninformed reviewer disses your band..doesn't make it a bad paper

that's like saying one bad song ruins a whole album
