Nocode is a Vedder solo album...could be a vitalogy extension....
really? i couldn't disagree more.
Yea I don't think it's a Vedder solo album at all. In fact I think it's Eddie letting go and letting the others join in. No Code was them warming up to this new style, and Yield was them mastering it.
Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...

nice.looks like no code is in the lead.
i assumed that yield would be chosen more just from a lot of previous readings
Just checking in as a member of Team Yield. FFS, we have our own Yield Night!
No Code is my second favorite though. But Yield is just too special for me, will always be at the top.
P.S. Wishlist is better than Dissident and Bugs or any of the oddities on Vitalogy.
Dissident has enough material in its one line of lyrics to make a full-length movie. Wishlist sounds like a first-grader song that might have been written on a recorder by...well...a first grader
Also trash talking about anything Vitalogy will burn you in hell forever

No Code. It's just so diverse, and it was so fresh after the first 3 albums that it really shines. I really love the slightly country feel to Hail, Hail, Red Mosquito, the hard rocking of Lukin and Habit, the bluesy Smile, and the tender moments like Around the Bend. It's just so well rounded, like a nice firm breast, y'know?
Thanks EPOTTSIII!

I love all of them to damn much. there's no way I could choose one or the other, every time they come out with a new record it's like another chapter in my life
No Code is great, but I really love the hard, crisp sound of Yield. I guess No Code has more vintage PJ songs, but Yield has Faithfull and Do The Evolution, which are 2 songs that are each better than any No Code song.
Ten has the highest number of classic Pearl Jam songs that most fans would rate in their top ten songs from the band. The history behind it, the youthful sound, the energy, it's simply unsurpassed. Incredible that the band hadn't even met when most of the music was created.
VS is better produced than Ten, harder rocking, and has several really strong highlights. The first true hint of the band's diversity, ranging from songs like Elderly Woman, to Indifference, to Blood.
Strangely given its history, the band never sounded as effortlessly perfect as they did on Vitalogy. The odd songs can both add to and subtract from the album, depending on your mood and point of view. A couple of weaker songs, and some filler, does leave us without a very long album of strong songs though. While adding nothing to the music, the concept for the album is in a different class.
No Code. It's hard to explain how I feel about No Code. For someone who listens to music non stop, got thousands of albums in a wide range of genres (esp. in rock), people often look confused when I tell them that No Code is my all time favourite album. I've tried to say something about all the albums here, even if it might not fit the thread to do so, to show that while I recognize the brilliance of Ten (that made PJ my favourite band) and Vs, the lyrical and musical talent shown on Vitalogy, the growth on Yield/Binaural, it is No Code that's got my heart. The beauty of the music, the lyrics and overall theme, the depth and range, an album that just keeps growing on me after so many years.
On Yield it felt like the band worked better as a team than ever before, and showed the band maturing in the best way possible. Democracy can take its toll as well though, and sometimes it would be better if they just let Eddie write the lyrics. This is the start of that. Both No Code and Yield has a very warm feel though, that adds a lot of listening value for me.
Binaural was perhaps slightly overproduced, but song by song it's one of my favourites. It's an album I can never grow tired of, and an album that for me has no real weak spots. The incredible b-sides neither detract nor add to the album itself, but proves the level of the songs they were working on. Perhaps they had Lost Dogs in mind as well.
Riot Act showed the first true weakness from Pearl Jam. While approximately half the album is really strong, and include some songs that could strengthen any Pearl Jam album or concert, on some songs it feels like Eddie mailed in his performance. The album grows on you, but more than ever some of the b-sides could really have added to the album. It has been argued that the theme of the album would have been let down by that, but while theme can be important, music comes first for me.
Self titled (Pearl Jam) is the first album that I nearly stropped listening to after a few months. It's got songs we all love, and often fans differ on which songs they prefer, whereas while discussing Riot Act people seem to be in much greater agreement on which songs are the best. This hints at range and depth, but perhaps also at a lack of true highlights. An album with a better delivery from Eddie Vedder, but something was still missing.
So lots of love for Yield, but a clear vote for No Code.
I'm giving 1/2 of my vote to No Code and the other 1/2 to Yield. I love both albums!!! I was really excited when both of these albums came out because they seemed so different from Ten.
