Interesting. I am blown away by the Garden DVD every time I watch it. I was super excited for Lost Dogs to come out and not that excited for the Garden DVD (if you remember they came out the same day). I liked and still like the DVD better. It might be because of my low expectations for it.

I think I have the opposite reaction to Immagine because I had high expectations and I was let down. Granted there is some great stuff on there (Ed and Mike on the roof, Ed playing Immortality by himself, the camera angles)...I think I was hoping for more from the behind the scenes stuff. I could have used more Stone, and by more I mean any.

Yeah, I was the opposite. Lost Dogs blew me away... I loved it. The Garden dvd was cool, but it was my least watched dvd. I think I've just had an overkill of live PJ. I don't like when things are on 2-discs because I'm lazy and hate switching ;) Plus, I feel like there weren't any moments that particularly jumped out at me, unlike tb2k.

    To each his own... :)

Lost Dogs is good, don't get me wrong, but I think I was most disappointed because the reworked songs (Alone, Dirty Frank, Footsteps, Brother, Wash..one of my favorite songs ever by any band) are vastly inferior to the originals in my opinion. Instead of putting those songs on there they should have taken five or six songs from that picture in the cd case and put them on instead of these.

I find a lot of what I like and don't like is influenced by my expectations for it.

How could someone rip you for Rush in Rio? Fantastic! The R&R Hall of Fame will continue to be a complete and total joke until they are let in.

Some DVDs I have and like:

    Springsteen Barcelona
    RATM Mexico
PJ Live at the Garden (in my opinion their best overall DVD)

Do you not like like "Live at the Garden"?

Thanks to all for the recommendations.

I also have Bruce in Barcelona.....actually, I've got a few good Bruce DVDs.

I don't dislike Live at the Garden, but I like some of my b**ts better! :o

I do agree with that... I preferred the original b-sides to the reworked versions in almost every case. It was supposed to just round up odds and sods with a few nice perks for people that had that stuff... but it kinda fell short in that sense. Alone, Dirty Frank, and U were the worst offenders. I felt the same about the altered version of SOLAT on the greatest hits. The upcoming Ten release would be the place to offer alternate takes if that's what was wanted. But overall, the quality of the music was just so high. But in general, it was what I'd hoped for... I didn't want a bunch of crappy sounding demos of half-finished songs, which seemed to be what some people were hoping for.
  • u2 live at slane castle is my fave music dvd,not a massive fan but this concert is amazing.

That is a great dvd. My gf said she hated U2, so I made her watch that dvd. Bono is such a huge, over-the-top personality that it can be easy to forget that at heart these guys are just a great rock band. The politics and ego and sunglasses shadow their music too often. That dvd shows them in the light most people forget... an honest, incredibly genuine band that loves making music. If the intro to that dvd with 'Elevation' doesn't get to you, I don't know what will.
I came to this thread for the sole purpose of adding this one...a great great show and dvd. If only my dickhead buddy had not lost it and then claimed he never had it...must purchase it again
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

Live at the Showbox-PJ's best dvd>> If you don't like Riot Act, this dvd may sell you on it.

Ben Harper-Live at the Hollywood Bowl

David Gilmour-Remember That Night> Better than Pulse, imo, and the last semi-Floyd reunion.

Okonokos-My real intro to MMJ. It's awesome.

Live at Pompeii-greatest thing to ever pass through the lense of a video camera

Led Zeppelin S/T- don't need to say much here
  • Foo Fighters- Live at Wembley Stadium is pretty badass.

Tom Petty-Runnin Down A Dream is awesome. A little long, but you'll have a whole new respect for Petty after that one.

And of course, every PJ DVD.

This, along with "How the West Was Won" (I think that's the name of the cd live release they put out at the same time), are two that have been on my to get list since they came out. What am I waiting for?

Yup, How The West Was Won is the CD released at the same time with audio from a couple of concerts from 1972. Both are a must-have if you're a Zep fan, the audio has all been restored by Jimmy Page, it sounds amazing. Shits all over the Song Remains The Same for sure! Get them now! :D

I prefer the reissued expanded TSRTS. The(or an apporximation of) original order is restored. It's aboslutely amazing. Dazed and Confused is longer and seems to go by so fast.

BBC Sessions is the album that made me love Zep, but when TSRTS was released a couple years ago it renewed the faith, and took it's place as my favorite live Zep album. The stuff form HotH really makes it tops, I think.

Definitely pick it up. What are you guys waiting for? The dvd and album have been out for like 6 years. Get the TSRTS do over, too.

They need to release Earl's Court and instead of Knebworth from the late years, go with something from their 1980 tour of Europe. The stuff I have heard from that tour is much better than the stuff from 77 or Knebworth.

Leonard Cohen - Songs From The Road has some great individual musicians performances on it and Cohen is the suave, iconic figure, a living legend. The guitar on Bird On A Wire just blows me away.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjPtumHs3P0

Sigur Ros - Heima has already been mentioned but it's possibly my favourite music DVD ever. Beautifully shot in an absurdly beautiful country and such an original concept too. If Von doesn't move you, you probably have no soul. To see an audience from infant to elderly so captivated is pretty unique.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrTMUmokHT8

Eels - With Strings Live At Town Hall NYC is a good chilled late night one with some very versatile musicians and good humour. Also has a gorgeous version of Girl From The North Country that puts anyone else's to shame.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dyac6uoweos

Alice In Chains - Unplugged is for me by far the greatest of all the Unplugged series with Layne pulling off a great show despite looking like he'd just been woken up. He looks like he was very much on his way downhill but Rooster still sounds like it was made to be played this way.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5bXiM-o ... 88337B9E4B

Black Crowes - Who Killed That Bird Out On Your Window Sill is a great reminder of where the band came from and why they gained such popularity on the back of hair/sleaze metal. The Robinson's are pretty funny off stage. Stare It Cold played to half a million Russian people policed by a very brutal military prescence is a sickening sight but at the same time it's strangely great to watch.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBHUKdXOSuk

Sonic Youth - Corporate Ghost may only be a collection of music videos but they are such a mixed bag and fun to watch. Good extras on it too. Empty Page is a match for any early era SY.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhvLh8bG ... ure=relmfu

Smashing Pumpkins - 1991 - 2000 is another almost exclusively promo vids DVD but the artistic content is a reminder of what made SP one of the best bands of the 90's. The viewing/commentary option combos are a great add and makes watching it again never get dull. The vids for Thirty Three, 1979 and Tonight,Tonight are worth the money alone and the live version of an Ode To No One from the final Chicago Metro show is really worth watching to see what Jimmy Chamberlain can do with a set of sticks. This is why Matt Cameron will never be the greatest rock drummer.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_evk2R4wGU

REM - A Perfect Square is a no nonsense live performance with nothing to concentrate on but a top band on top form. Michael Stipe slouching down his mike stand to the floor during Peter Buck's Country Feedback solo is my favourite music moment caught on camera and Buck's solo is mesmeric.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPMdxo3t_Vw

Iron Maiden - Live After Death was the most watched VHS back when I had silly hair and skinny jeans and it's great to relive it on DVD. Nobody built better stage sets back then and Hallowed Be Thy Name never sounded better after this.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BFXCgm5270&ob=av2e

AC/DC - Live At Donington sums up the festival boom in the UK during the 80's and 90's, big crowds, big bands and big noise. The clapping during the middle section is an awesome sight. Brian Johnson could never sing though!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rrqhPmzErc

Led Zeppelin - The DVD which came out a decade or so ago had a lot of treasures on it and was great value for money. Going To California at London Earls Court is just so damn good!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luDgb5vV ... re=related

Pink Floyd - Live At Pompeii was a great piece of true music/visual art not really seen before this. It's hard to even find a highlight as it is best completely uninterrupted. Echoes Pt.2 is a good trip.

Didn't want to cut up your truly epic list Veddertown but in relation to the Black Crowes this is from the same set.
A jarring contrast of the greatest true rock band since the 70's having the freedom to do and go where they please and military rule in Russia even at a festival. This is hard core music fans and a jaw dropping version of Dylan's Rainy Day Woman that constantly reminds me,on the very rare occasion that I need reminding, that there is nothing like a Black Crowes gig.

the OP let me borrow Brothers Of A Feather - Live At The Roxy, which is a performance of the Robinson brothers from the Black Crowes doing some stripped down songs. There's not a lot of action on stage, but the quality of the performance is up there.

A must watch for any Black Crowes fan.

Continuing on the Black Crowes actually, they have some of my favorite music DVDs. Cabin Fever is excellent.

I loved the last two albums and it would have been nice to see them live again before they called it a day. It's the one band I miss the most... :( The Live From Olympia in Dublin was a great CD/DVD set and the new songs sounded good alongside the vintage stuff.

I've been kinda out of the loop for awhile with music dvds. Got about everything here that I'm into. Anything came out out in the last few years that I may have missed out on? The most recent one's I think I've really loved are the Crowes' Cabin Fever and Ashes of American Flags with clinched a much higher appreciation for Wilco.

Anything from The Who with alot of Quadrophenia?

I watched Iron Maiden's En Vivo Live in Santiago tonight and it's a pretty outstanding performance. The triple guitar assault and pounding drums and bass are superb and there's some really subtle moments too. I know a lot of people don't like them but they are such a tight band and are amazing at what they do and have done for over 30 years. South American audiences must be such a joy to play for for any musician, those crowds are so insane.
Like a book among the many on a shelf...

    Dublin 02 Arena - 22/6/10. Belfast Odyssey Arena - 23/6/10. London Hyde Park - 25/6/10. Berlin Wuhlheide - 30/6/10.
    Manchester MEN - 20/06/12. Manchester MEN - 21/06/12
