work in the sports media industry, an industry that is being decimated by lay-offs and significant cutbacks, so I'm looking at other things.

Currently working at Nordstrom - Internal IT Help Desk - fixing computers and registers. It's a good job, and Nordstrom is a rockin' company, and will weather the economic downturn...
current job: phlebotomist in the pathology lab of a hospital in the mayo health system.
student?: senior in college with two semesters left (counting the one I'm in right now) studying biology...then off to grad school to become a physician assistant.
5 yr plan: finished with grad school living somewhere beautiful (the further west the better) working as a cardiovascular physician assistant.

current job: IT Documentation/Trainer for a large HVAC corporation. Been here for 5 years. I write instructor guides, Help files and user manuals for SAP and a number of other software solutions. Sometimes train classes. Some travel although not as much as there used to be. Work from home one day a week. I like my job, but there are parts I hate too.
student?: No. I have a BA. History and anthropology. Graduated in 1996.
5 yr plan: Due to current economic conditions, my 5 year plan is just to stay employed. I’ve been laid off before, but I think if it happens now it will be very difficult to find something similar for the same money. A layoff would probably mean a complete career change for me.
i'd rather be...: Flying. I got a private pilot license and an instrument rating several years ago but decided not to pursue a career. No military experience and school would have been astronomical as far as cost goes. Plus you can make more at Taco Bell than as a new pilot fresh out of school. Also, this job can be boring so I think I may try something completely different next time I get the chance. Another major hobby is cooking, but probably would not be able to hack culinary school.
well i was a line cook for like ten years..nightly domination underappreciated by all but my 2 counter parts who also hated their jobs and were jaded by awful ex's usually ending dinner rush with a polished off bottle of three olives and a motionless moment with wasted reprise playing full blast for the entire restaurant to hear our dissapointment in our lives...
but now im a purchasing mngr at a succesful industrial company lovin life..hope i dont mess it up
i have a few minutes to kill, so i thought i'd start a new thread!
so what do you do for a living? if you're a student, what are you studying? is this what you saw yourself doing 5 years ago? what would you rather be doing? i'll start....
current job: Editor for an Oil & Gas publication firm (work from home! woo-hoo!--that's the only perk, by the way) also, i'm a musician that is coming out of hiding from writing/recording. can't wait to play some shows!
student?: yes--in grad school slowly working toward my Ed S degree in Educational Psychology
5 yr plan: not really. i've been w/ my company for about 1.5 yrs and I never thought that i'd be working in O&G. and grad school wasn't on my radar until about a year ago. i thought that i'd be teaching.
i'd rather be...: done w/ school so i can help troubled kids instead of editing articles about rich people getting richer.
k--your turn!
Current Job: Admin Assistant for a Nonprofit
5 year plan: ?
I'd rather be doing something in a creative field.
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.
current job: nothing! I am a stay at home mom right now, but prior to this, I was a marketing/PR coordinator at a big Chicago law firm.
student?: no, but I have thought about going back to school and 1.) becoming a high school english or art teacher, or 2.) going back to school and teaching at a community college or university, or 3.) get my masters and go further into the field of marketing/PR
5 yr plan: I need to figure out the above before I can make that. I do plan to be either working full time or in school and working towards working full time by then.
i'd rather be...: I'm happy doing this right now, but I really miss the intellectual challenge of school/work.
student?: graduated w/ my marketing degree...can't decide if i want to go back for my master's. i'm not sure what would benefit me the most?!
5 yr plan: moving to seattle in a few months to work at a higher volume store. i'll hopefully stay there for a bit and then move up to one of the company's top volume stores in california. san fran and santa monica are my picks that should be about 5 years...then i'm hoping to have a better idea as to whether i want to move up to district manager or run away to work at home office in philly i'd rather be...: i'm happy with this...though if i cold somehow be the music director for my company, i'd be the happiest girl in the world. i love my company...but i'm sure everyone knows that by now
current job: none, im a broke motherfucker... but i still live wit my parents and am only a senior in college so... (does doing scholarships count as a job???? only if i win????)
student?: yes, full time senior in high school taking college prep courses. Rowan University this September studying Mechanical engineering.
5 yr plan: graduate high school. graduate college. get a sweet job.
i'd rather be...: an animallllll!!!!!! uhhh, idk.

current job: senior editor at cars.com, yes I review and write about cars.
student: 11 years since college or so.
5-year plan: to still be employed with health care and a 401K that rebounds from what it is.
I'd rather be: personal biographer to Pearl Jam. Or personal car shopper for Pearl Jam. And really what they could use is a full time blogger/fan advocate to keep this glorious site updated more often and to answer more questions etc. I do not think they could afford me though
New screenname for the new site. At least for now. Previously Lackofdave

Current job: I've been a waitress for the past ten years. I really enjoy it, except for the 3 bulging discs and terrible back pain. Now it's more like 'meals on wheels' because I use a cart like you would see room service use at a hotel.
Student: I will finally finish college with a degree in Chemical Engineering this June.
5-year plan: I may use the economy as an excuse to not get a job and try to travel until I run out of money. The best thing about taking 10 years to finish college is graduating without any debt!
I'd rather be: Touring with Pearl Jam(do you think they need a chemical engineer on the payroll?). In Mexico, Canada, Italy or anywhere except Ohio. Doing something that makes me happy while helping others. I have a resume if anybody is interested:)

Student: Never again
5 years: I've got next week planned out but anything past that is all up in the air.... I'll ride the wave where it takes me.

Student: First year of law school - part-time evening student, in class 4 nights a week.
5-year plan: Pass the bar and work for the Public Defender's Office in either the misdemeanor or felony departments.
