It seems like its just me. This is one of the only Pearl Jam b-sides that I truely find sub-par to their album releases. Its mostly verses I guess. They just sound, dare I say it: nuemetal-ish.

That being said I'm sure it will frickin blow me away live.

flame away.

well, i don't know what other people feel, but I'm all into this song, and I have been from the first time I heard it in versio with lyrics (before no-lyrics version).
I don't know if it sounds numetal or whatever. this is great sound for me.
But I can understand You feel different. About this song.
I wouldn't understand if it is about SOLAT thread, but now... it's ok... :D

BTW> Yes, Stone, as we heard, didn't like Brother, unlike Jeff, who was about leaving the band, because of this song.
I hope next time PJ will be in Poland, They will finally play Brother.

As a big fan of the original, I do like this version, just not as much.

I love the breakdown in the middle. Its got a Yellow Ledbetter meets a faster/harder song like "Deep" vibe to it.

I am happy with what they did with it. Didnt tinker too much with the original.

I'm loving the new version; I've only heard it once though. I can't wait to get a higher quality version of it. The old version has always been classic to me; the new version wasn't a 'shocker' at all. Quite frankly I'm really digging the new mix and vox. Sorry to hear you're not though, perhaps it will grow on you after a few more listens. And look at the bright side, we have PLENTY of other PJ stuff to look forward to this year. This is only the tip of the iceberg.

I can't wait for the Brother/Daughter combo live. They just need to write another song about a family member and we'll have a whole trilogy to look forward to at shows.

That would be You Are -- that song has some serious Def Leppard-ness to it.

I always liked this song, and I think the original lyrics (or at least the lyrics we all knew before this new remixed version) were good, I don't understand why Ed should be embarassed with it.. Anyway, this new version does not hook me up as the one from rough mixes or rare, unreleased.. Maybe it's the different lyrics, I don't know.. Why the hell Ed sings "sister" instead of "brother"?

He doesn't, he sings "oh little sister" instead of "oh and i'm pushing".

    You're right, my mistake..
But why he sings "oh little sister" in a song called "brother"?
..maybe this brother guy was a bit effeminate?
    I'm confused.. :?: :D

i agree with the original poster it's not that good... PJ wouldn't dare release something as bad as that nowadays. Makes me wanna play some Yield or Riot Act.
  • Im not really into this new version much either
I think my favorite is the instrumental version on Lost Dogs
But Porch has a new feeling to it and i can feel the bass more and I am quite impressed with it. :)

It's a good tune. Nothing to write home to mom about but I suppose that's why it wasn't released on Ten.

i like brother but i don't particularly like the new version. i think the rarities unreleased version is better. the new one is straight edged in vocal style where the other one is more pieced together.
  • I like the Lost Dogs version better. I really don't like Ed's singing all that much on this song. I'm sure it will grow on me though. :D

As far as radio station love for it I think it boils down to the fact that most people/DJ's don't think Pearl Jam did anything important after Vs. or Vitalogy if were lucky.

So any exposure to old never before released stuff from that era of their career will carry a buzz to it.

Yeah you probably are the only person no into this song! Freak! Just kidding. Well to each his own. I guess there is no need to feel obligated to like it either. I can honestly say i dislike a few PJ songs and i know someone is going to throw a fit after I post this but whatever. But honestly I can't stand Whale Song, Help Help, Sleight of Hand, MANKIND,1/2 full, or Insignificance. :D
