This is coming from someone in the 400,xxx range. First things first: IF you don't like what the Ten Club gives you...nobody is pulling your arm to buy a 20 dollar membership. You don't have a use for albums, you don't like e-mail updates, not a poster collector...that's fine I respect that. I have a BUNCH of friends who love pj and aren't members but they also don't lose sleep at night knowing they can't post on their forums. As you said you were a webmaster, and with a free forum comes more traffic. However, some traffic is negative/redundant. I'm not trying to sound pompous or anything but there were a lot of questions on the old forum that would be asked 5 times a day. I didn't post much and I still don't but this is valid.
Bottom line = If the club isn't working for you than don't buy it. This isn't a huge expense and I understand if you have to put things before the band. However, the "countless voices" your leading can still go in to the goods section and pay the fee. I'm not giving in to society, or establishment etc. Good luck man I understand where you're coming from on SOME points, I just feel like it's a battle that won't be won.

There's nothing lacking reason in the above post. I too realize that I'm trying to wage a battle which may prove fruitless, but I still feel like I'm at least trying to fight the good fight for what I believe is in the best interest of fans and the band.

I think a perfectly reasonable way to attract new fan participants and to give "old hands" their space too is to leave the old message pit as it was and create this new one as a 10 Club added benefit. That's an additional benefit to fan club members that many may choose to pay for while taking nothing away from others. I fully comprehend not wanting to have to sift through some of the garbage posts (posters posts were my personal pet peeve toward the end of the old board). I don't feel like the gains some have stated have been made by the new board justify the losses in the process. Essentially the largest gathering of Pearl Jam fans was gutted. A part of it may live on, but I'd hope that PJ fans would have come together with a more unified voice and compassion for each other to make more of an outcry against this decision.

I'm personally thankful to any of those who may have posted something similar to my grievance or who tried to defend those who now find themselves voiceless in Pearl Jam's largest gathering outpost.

To the person talking about me only being familiar with PJ circa 2000... well, I disagree. But more and more I will agree that this band's external affairs appear to more closely resemble acts like the Rolling Stones than what we were once familiar with as their roots. I understand evolution, baby. ;) But there's a good evolution and a bad one. Muting fans and charging them to have a voice in the largest online fan gathering = a bad one. That's my stance and I probably don't have much more to say on the topic. I got it off my chest, I'm not crying myself to sleep, but I will continue thinking that a large portion of fans have been directly screwed by greed and the 10 Club or somebody else making poor decisions.

Well I do have respect for what you're doing. You do have a niche that could be looked upon- Good luck either way....

I'd hate to break it to you but your 181 number will never be good enough that you'll be close enough to the stage to even make out the faces of the band members (and you can pretty much forget about seeing Boom at all) Unless of course there is a lottery. So, kneel down and start praying my child :D

Let's see how correct you are.

I'm 187XXX and in Toledo I was in the last row on the side. Also, they used a lottery for those shows, so that does nothing to support your point.

In Detroit and Cleveland in 06 I was row 15 at both shows. Not bad, but not brilliant either. All it takes is one tall person in front of you to ensure that you can't see shit, and I'm 6'0". Not to mention, they pack those crappy little folding chairs so close together that I can't breathe without my dick hitting the back of the chair in front and my arms starting a domino effect down the row beside me... and forget trying to dance or jump or rock out!

It wasn't a lottery. It was first come first served.
Regardless. Without being in the Fan Club there was no chance of getting those seats.

I have been to over 20 shows and my seats get better and better every tour. I was just proving a point that it's better to use your Ten Club tickets than it is to use Ticket Master. It was said that with the number I have I wouldn't even be able to make out the faces of the band. That is so far from being the truth. Even without a lottery involved my seats have been better than average and I've never had a problem seeing the band. Just look at my MSG pictures from 2008. These are straight up Ten Club seats with no lottery involved. MSG 1 Pics. I wouldn't have gotten anything close to that through Ticket Master. Although my number is not quite the best, there are people that would pay good money to have my number.

good god everyone, deep breath here.

I see all sides to this, but what is wrong with a fan club offering an exclusive perk? If you don't want that, go to an alt board, that simple. If anything, this is another reason to join now, that is good marketing in terms of boosting the bottom line(anyone who says they are not in this buis. for $$ and it is just about the music is fooling themselves- itmay be both but money is always a factor).

Do the stray fans not get in? No, they just can't POST, so it has nothing to do with information sharing, just the ability to add your 2 cents. I too was getting way sick of the BS posts and antagonists who did not give a crap at all about PJ. Sure there are TC members that enflame stuff, but there are now far less garbage posts, and it has to be way easier for the board to be managed since you can't get banned and sign up with another account 30 seconds later with a new user name unless you now pay- how many people will repay just to be a jag on the board....not many. If they do well good for them they'll get their ass banned again in a week and pay again if they want to keep it up.

FACT is you miss nothing on this board vs. the message pit, other than the ability to POST

    thank you and good day

Speedy, nice to see you back

While I do miss a lot of the old board members who have opted not to join here, I am greatful that the barrier to entry has reduced the number of people who merely post here just to cause problems.

    I'm wondering the same thing.
I was at one of the Camden shows, but Ct. is a bit far for me to travel.
Maybe he's talking about the people with decent numbers that got shitty seats.
Hey, shit happens. The Ten Club acknowledged the fuck up. Time to move on now.

this would be the 1st i've heard about 10C members with decent numbers getting shitty seats at Hartford. i was at last year's Hartford show and seat distribution seemed to be going well (aside from those poor folks who got held up at the 10C will-call line). i did hear about the Camden incident, but that didn't appear to be taking place at the Hartford show,...

    Yeah, you're right.
He must be speaking of the fiasco at the Ten Club ticket window. I actually forgot about that.
