I also love the people who CALL BACK if you dialed wrong. Happens all the time at my work. They call back and say "yeah..someone just called my #". WTH??!!! If someone called me and hung up AND I did not recognize that # I sure all hell am NOT gonna call them back asking about it!!!!

    "I see stupid people"

Whats even worse is when you call and leave a message, and they still call back asking what its about. Its like, check your fucking message!!!

The reason it upsets me so much is at my job we have several phones so its not always easy to figure out who called out, and about what, so then I have to waste my time on the phone asking if they ordered something, had an instrument repaired, or take lessons. If they would just listen to the message I wouldn't have this problem.

jerry- "im sorry i dont have time to talk right now, can i call you back later at your home?"
telemarketer- "well, um, no we cant do that"
jerry- "oh okay. probably because you dont want people calling you at home right?"
    telemarketer- "yeah..."
jerry- "well now you know how i feel"--hangs up

classic. i wish i could remember this when they call me. :D

i have a phone in my home for MY convenience, not for others. i like to screen my calls and decide if i want to answer/speak to the person calling. it's quite simple. it's not just about telemarketers, it's just calls in general...interruptions, etc. if it's important, obviously i'll answer....or if i simply want to, but if i don't...then i won't. all about choice.

no 'fear' of telemarketers, b/c as i already stated we get NO telelmarketing calls ever since we registered our phones with the national do not call registry. it's fantastic! :)
It was a JOKE :? no need to read so much into everything  people who call me... 9/10 it's a friend, so I answer... the other 1/10 may be someone looking to interview me... so I answer. There is nobody else.

i didn't 'read' anything into your post..i took it at face value, that's all.
and my point was, friends, family,,,whatever...doesn't matter. if i am doing something else, involved, or just don't feel like talking right then, i like not answering and it's quite rare that i do really. thus, i screen my calls on our home phone. all my friends and family know this. it's no biggie. thus, i explained.

also, sounds like you only have a cell phone? i have 2 phones, cell and a home landline. granted, i don't always answer my cell either :P, but what i am talking about is my home phone. i do get the bulk of my calls there in any case, guess most of my calls, nothing is pertinent...and/or can be handled with email. i am just not a phone person. either way, it's for my convenience.

    What's a telemarketer? ;)

Seriously, I haven't had a landline for at least 8 years and have even gone to the trouble of registering the cell for the donotcall list.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.

    trouble? ;)
    it's just so easy!
we have 1 landline and 2 cells between us....and ALL are on the do not call registry. nowadays it seems there are 2 ways to go about it - register all online - or, call registry from each phone and it gets automatically entered. easy, easy...i wonder why more don't do it, and if it at all has made any dent in telemarketing industry.

In Canada the 'do not call' list is, apparently, available to anyone who wants it for a fee. Edit - anyone can get it, and for $50 dollars.

 seriously??? I've never gotten ANY on my cell phone... I got them the odd time at work... but very very rarely. The landline here has rang maybe 3 times since I've moved in... but I never run for it cos everyone has our mobile numbers anyway... so I dunno if they were telemarketers or if our housemate gave the number to anyone.

    really?
    that's ridiculous!
    in the US, it's free.
and yes, telemarketing calls used to be ridiculous...so it's nice to not ever screen thru their messages, nor ever accidently pick up their calls, etc. i like not having the bother.
however, we pay $2.50 a month to have our landline unlisted in the phonebook. that annoys me. however, i don't want anyone looking me up in a phone book, so it's worth it....even if i think the charge is ridiculous. :p

  • as to the scam, i would be more worried that they are looking into homes who do or don't have a security system, looking to see who doesn't...for possible 'targets'....b/c that would be perfect for someone looking for homes to rob. there are just way too many scams, and way too many people looking to get things, that i prefer as little info as possible to be given out about me, and sure...to make my home look as 'occupied' as best i can, and sure...2 dogs barking helps too. :P
that's what i was worried about.... especially since I live alone. I just clearly stated that there is security in the building and in my home. (though there is not). That fear reminded me to register on the list. I don't care if I'm robbed while I'm not home (i know you feel violated...I've had it happen to me) but I never want to be home again when it happens. It instils a fear in you, that i just recently got over.

    OMG!
i had no idea you've already eperienced this. :( :( how horrible! believe me, while i don't live alone....just being female, the thoughts do come to mind, thus why i immediately think of such things. a few years ago, not in my area but somewhere in NY...there was a rash of home burglaries, targeting women when they came home from work...as they entered their homes...and then rushed them. case the house, see who gets home when, if alone, etc. i mean seriously...even tho i live with my husband, its easy enough to see if people get home around the same time or not, etc, etc. so yes, i remember reading that and thinking...how horrible! just like when burglars steal utility uniforms, etc....thus why now they have official IDs, etc. of course, anything can be faked, stolen, etc......but probably also why i see my home as my santuary, and thus i don't open my door unless i am expecting you, don't really answer calls, etc. just very private/protective of my home, and most especially, my time at home. glad you're on the registry now, and smart answer you gave the scammers....be safe! :)

I am confused by your reply, and not sure if it's me or you so I will explain myself ;) It is free to put your number on it, what I meant is that for $50 anyone can get the list of numbers.

so you're saying that this "list" of numbers of people who don't want their number given out.... is up for sale for $50??

confused by my reply? how novel. ;)
hahaha....seriously, *I* apparently misunderstood you. i get it now. well, being able to buy the list doesn't matter. here in the states, if you are on the list and a telemarketer calls you - and if you have some way of identifying the # - you can then call the registry and inform, and then the telemarketer gets fined. thus, i've never gotten a call since being on the list. it's these 'litte things in life that make the big differences! :P

I have no idea how it works, or the specifics, but apparently if the caller is from outside Canada they're essentially "above the law", meaning we need to take things into our own hands and hire some professional help:
