Is the "Limited Edition" Crashious Hoddie a bunch of BS?

I'm starting to get skeptical that it is really the limited quantity we are being told. Seems to me it would be gonzo by now or long ago. Not all that expensive and pretty cool. How the heck is it still available for purchase today? I hate to be skeptical but I know that when I see Limited Edition I am much more likely to whip out the ole credit card and rationalize to myself how I can pay for it later. RIght? Are they just wringing more money out of us? What do you think.

On a small side note... I was at the mall last night and saw the Pearl Jam stickman shirt on a mannequin in the window at Hot Topic. It was wrapped in this cheesy red zip up flannel. I went in and looked at it. It kinda bummed me out. What's going on. Is the mystique gone. Are we in for a 100% sell out at this point. Time to stack all the money that can be made on the Pearl Jam name and brand rather than sticking to the laurels of yesteryear where us hard-cores kept the boat afloat and lived with the joy of the knowing we were part of those who hung on for the ride while many of the rest of the world thought the band had broken up. Im a little nervous the product I've been behind for so long is being whored out to the masses.

Give me a fucking break. Yeah, it's signed and numbered.. MAYBE NOT EVERYONE has money for it. Just like tix for the summer tour.. sure there's a limited number of tickets, but they were still available a few days later for the FL shows.. who cares? Some fans of this band have this thing, where PEARL JAM can not be like any other band, NO NOT OUR FAVORITE BAND! THEY ARE SELLING ITEMS OUTSIDE OF THE FAN CLUB?????????????????? noooo why????? TO MAKE MONEY??? UGHHHH.

Calm down. It has nothing to do with the band SELLING OUT, I HATE that fucking word. How are they selling out? Because they are branching out to people who might not even KNOW what the Ten Club is, but ENJOY listening to the band? Seriously.

Of course everyone on here is DIE HARD fan, and we ARE ALL CRAZY.. but it's time to get a grip, NOTHING EVER STAYS the SAME. This band isn't "selling out" so don't worry, they are not gonna pack their bags and just stop making music, we will still have limited items, STRICTLY for 10c members, and we will STILL HOLD OUR fan club numbers.

i think that it's still available for a couple of reasons....
-not everyone likes the design. no matter how "limited" an item might be, if you don't like it enough to want to wear it, hang it (poster) or stick it (stickers), you won't buy it. it's not my taste at all, so i didn't buy one.
-the economy. yeah...it's been said a lot lately, but with good reason. people aren't as likely to fork over their $ when money is tight, especially during tax season. i really wanted the super deluxe version, but then i thought about how much we could use that extra money, so i opted for the deluxe instead. i already own Ten on vinyl, and if i really want the remixed version + bonus songs, i'll buy the vinyl version later.
    that's my take on it..

also--i don't think selling a tshirt at hot topic means that they have sold out. it's just a way to reach younger fans, i think.
    I LOVE MUSIC.

I posted this as response to another topic, but it somewhat fits this one in regards to all the merchandising PJ has been doing.

I often wonder why a band that supposedly sticks up and respects it's fans so much sells so many trinkets- I mean it's special edition this and that, books, posters, tshirts, bootlegs, hats, SOCKS!, Zippos!, stickers, you name it, they stick a PJ logo on it and sell it to us as "a limited edition" as in, since you are a member of the 10c, you are fortunate enough to buy this item, of that normal fans would buy this book for $40, but a real fan would pay $200 for it for the 'special edition'- It all seems to have gone overboard- especially with the socks, bags and limited edition zippos. It's like they are whoring themselves out to the point where we will be seeing PJ can koozies and coffee mugs

I get that it's all up to us to buy the stuff, and we don't have to- but it just seems like a band that preaches about the 'Green Disease' wouldn't need so much of it's fans' green. If they were truly men of their words, they wouldn't need to sell people socks, bags and zippos. It's almost gotten to the point where it's not so much about the music as it is about Pearl Jam becoming their own corporation selling items with their logo on it.

Oh I forgot they are now selling Pearl Jam baby clothes and skate board decks. It's like they preach that the key to life isn't money, so when we are forking it over to them we don't feel bad

i can tell you why they're still available... cause they made the fricking regular stick-guy hoodies available like 2 weeks before and a bunch of us bought one!!! (myself included!)

seriously... i would've bought a crash one in a second had i not just bought the reg. one.... but i couldn't justify shelling out cash for another when i hadn't even washed the first one yet... my wife would have my balls!!! (and not in the good way. )

gee...maybe if they took a vow of poverty and dined in dumpsters you'd all feel much better.

there is nothing wrong with them selling shit with their name on it! I love Pearl Jam and i enjoy being able to buy a zippo or a pair of socks...remember it's not just Ed and the boys that rely on the PJ money..you have everyone from Kat & Sea right on down to the roadies families..that shit isn't cheap and people don't work for free..i mean you have a job and like to get paid right?? If i see Ed in a Lamborghini and sporting Armani and iced out jemelry then i would be alarmed!..but these guys are not selling out and i don't think a lot of people even know what that means(to sell out) because that term has been thrown around a lot here lately and always in the wrong way.

PJ merch at hot topic is nothing new. I bought my I Am Mine/Undone single on vinyl there YEARS ago. They had some Riot Act t-shirts there for a while as well.

Are they sellouts for the cds/dvds being available at best buy and walmart? Are they only allowed to sell merch through the website now?

For a band with green disease they sure cut us some great deals. I don't know of any other band even remotely as big as them that sells their tshirts(prolly the best selling merch item for any band) for $20. I could do w/o all the schwag, and I do, but if they were really sellin out, wouldn't stuff be much more expensive.

I get all of that. I'm not asking them to not sell anything, I'm just saying that it's at the boarder of being too much in my eyes. It's one thing to be KISS where they are known as money grubbing and make no bones about it- but Pearl Jam spreads the message to all of it's fans that greed and materialism won't get you anywhere- when they are selling anything they can with their name on it. It kind of goes against the whole message. They are telling everyone to not be such consumers- yet they sell just about anything you can ask for.

I have no problem with shirts, or even special edition albums- but is there really a need for Pearl Jam socks? tote bags? babie clothes? zippos? skateboard decks?

again, I'm not saying they shouldn't sell t-shirts, CD's or other things you come to expect a band to sell. I guess I just felt it was mundane and tacky to start selling socks for $15 and $40 'Limited Edition' Zippos as well as $200 special edition books and skateboard decks

And the t-shirts were $25/$30 on tour from what I remember- still not extravagant

I'm not arguing that- Radiohead was selling shirts made of plastic bottles for $40...I get it, but the difference from what I see is Pearl Jam preaches using less and not being greedy- yet you go to the stands at the shows and you can buy socks, bags, zippos, hoddies while people are fighting over limited edition posters- I'm just saying that to me it appears to go against their message.

I have the same feelings towards Radiohead, though Radiohead never took as firm of a stance on greed as Pearl Jam has. Radiohead preaches the environment most of all so I could see them selling more expensive than normal apparel made of recycled plastic

they are limitied alright, the Crash Bison hoodie I have is signed and numbered. Maybe the stick man crashious is still in stock because its such an ugly zip up! I love Pearl Jam but there merch is really lame sometimes... Ames do such amazing work for posters and there own shirts they sell on there site, why cant some of this stuff end up on shirts or sweatshirts??

Let's quit bashing the band. Are they in the business to make money? Sure. Should they NOT be?
So they put the Stickman logo on everything. What's the big deal? I LOVE the Stickman. Hell, it's the logo for one of my fantasy teams.
Think about all the money we as fans are allowed to(if we choose) make off of them. How many people buy concert posters? Posters that you can ONLY get at the shows. Sometimes you can get them here. Does the band have any set rules on us re-selling them? No. As far as I know, there are no rules in place to prohibit anyone from buying 5 or 6 posters at a show. I hate the fact that I never have enough money to buy 2 of everything that I decide to buy. I'd keep one and sell the other. They don't stop you from doing it. If you love the band, like I think we ALL DO, then let them do what they want. They keep ticket prices relatively cheap STILL.(compared to other acts) If you're in the fan club, you get GREAT seats instead of having the front center seats gobbled up by brokers and scalpers. I know that I LOVED my 5th row center seats last time they were in Chicago. It makes me feel important to look around and try and find where my friends are sitting. It makes me feel good when they tell me that they're jealous of my seats. It's great that I can sit THAT CLOSE at NO premium. They're also a band that does not have to play for 3 hours. But, they usually come pretty close to that long of a set.

If you don't think that this band loves each and every one of us, YOU'RE INSANE!!!!!

If I could have found a Stickman onesie after my daughter was born, you could bet your ass I'd have bought one.
Flaunt it. You love the band. I love it when people see something Pearl Jam of mine or hear PJ in the car and say, "You still listen to them? I didn't know they were around anymore."
I just smile and think, "Well, how many favorite bands have you had in the last 20 years that ARE STILL AROUND?"

washed my first "Get Right" shirt for the 5000 time yesterday thinking..man this was one hell of a buy. Incredible quality for the price...couldn't have matched it in Wallie World.

To the sell out thing...buy it or don't buy it..your choice. I'm wondering if some may be upset cause they bought the crash hoodie being limitied edition so they could flip it later for profit..and now they're stuck...tooo freakin bad for you buddy.

PJ's music is incredible...everything else is what it is...its really about the music.

Um, Hot Topic sells BAND SHIRTS!! Pearl Jam is a band, right? What's the problem?
In fact, I got my Stickman shirt from there. Lighten up man!

Yeah, and they've sold PJ shirts there for a long time. I got a VS. shirt there years ago and my brown Avocado shirt there. It has a Ten Club label on it too.

I posted the same question over in the regular Crashious thread but not as passionate...

I think that the hoodie is still available for a couple of reasons:

    1) Not everyone has the money available right now. Blame it on the poor economy or recent purchase of the Ten super deluxe set or simply other financial responsabilities. It may be affordable but hey, some people need to budget themselves at times.

    2) Some people may feel that it's "ugly" and not like how it looks. While this may be true to some...it's not to others. Maybe the people that actually do like it are much fewer than the amount available.

    My two cents.

again, I'm not saying they shouldn't sell t-shirts, CD's or other things you come to expect a band to sell. I guess I just felt it was mundane and tacky to start selling socks for $15 and $40 'Limited Edition' Zippos as well as $200 special edition books and skateboard decks

And the t-shirts were $25/$30 on tour from what I remember- still not extravagant

So, wait til you get home to get one or wait til you are gonna order somethin off the site and toss in whichever tour shirt/s you want.

The thing about the special editions, they almost always offer a standard, more basic version of them. I think the Ten re-release is a perfect example of PJ takin care of their fans, where alotta the cynics view it as a big shined up sellout.
