well i wasn't going to say anything, but just to meet your expectations ;) : 30 seconds to mars = worst live band i've ever seen. they opened up for audioslave, and i felt really bad for all parties involved, audience especially

Really? I've seen them twice, and I thought they were good. When did they open for Audioslave? Maybe they got better.

haha I saw them open for Audioslave too back in 05. I don't mean to offend anyone who likes 30 secs to mars, but they were an absolute train wreck live, IMO. Just awful.

As for albums I'm looking most forward to this year: Obviously Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soulsavers, hopefully a new Lanegan solo album, Twilight Singers, and a few more that escape me at the moment....

Can't wait for Isbell's album and Dan Auerbach. Also looking forward to Ben and the Relentless 7....U2 as well. Green Day is supposed to have a new one this year, but I kind of straddle the fence on them....I hope for good things but you never can tell.
I will be interested to hear the Booker T album with Drive-by Truckers as the backing band as well as some guitar by Neil Young....its called Potato Hole
I'm looking forward to the Hold Steady's live album/documentary too.
I had a really great year i 2008 in discovering some stuff I had overlooked before and latching onto some new bands, so I hope 2009 will bring more the same.
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

Are those just hopeful speculation, or is there word of an album release this year? That's be sweet.

Same question for the Built to Spill guy... that for real? That'd be sweet.

    I'm looking forward to:

    Decemberists
    U2
    Tragically Hip
    Hold Steady
    Pearl Jam

and then in 05 opening for audioslave, where the crowd booed them and they were terrible. Leto called us all stupid mutherfu**ers and walked off. they suck.

as for built to spill, I know they were in the studio twice last year, and in interviews marstch said that he hoped to get the record out this Spring. Looking back they havent said much since all the way back to last may, and these guys are rather prone to setbacks, but theres at least been some recording.

And to add to what I forgot before, the Crowes are recording theyre new album live in just a few weeks, hopefully it'll be out pretty soon after that.

Twilight Singers are going to start working on a new album in the next month or so. From what I have read from a few interviews here and there, The Soulsavers album should be out this year. It sounds like its almost done. I wouldn't hold my breath on a new Lanegan solo album this year. He says he's going to start working on it but he has other projects going on too so I don't know. He is the hardest working man in music so maybe....

As for the Twilight Singers album, I heard they are hoping to get Shawn Smith on the album as well. I'm pretty excited about that one :D

Huh, thats to bad that he would stoup to the level of the fans booing him. I personally think anyone booing any opening band or main act is silly and childish.

The 2 times I saw them they were the headliner, so obviously people were there to see them, and I didn't hear any booing or what not. And I really liked the stage set-up they had. Pink Floydish in the sense of the banners they used were very much like in 'The Wall' with the nazi-undertones. And I believe they are fans of Pink Floyd as well, so it was a bit of a homage to them.

I wanna say I saw them......fall of '06 and spring of '07. I think thats right. But different strokes for different folks I guess.
  • Really excited for this, just heard a snippet of a new riff on the AIC site. It'll be awesome, I really think William be extend the legacy.

Yes, thank you for clearing that up, PJGARDEN! I have heard similar news in regard to the Soulsavers and Lanegan solo album. I hope I didn't get your hopes up too much soulsinging; I wouldn't count on a new Lanegan solo album this year (more wishful thinking on my part), but again you never know with this guy given the hard worker he is. He recorded Scraps at Midnight in about 2 weeks, so anything is possible. Alls I know is its been too long since Bubblegum (close to 5 years) and I'm ready for another solo Lanegan masterpiece.

As far as the Soulsavers are concerned, I too heard their new album should be done by Feb 09, which is NOW! However, that little tidbit was stated back in the Oct-Nov 08 timeframe, so I'm betting the album isn't quite done yet. I'm trying to be optimistic though; let's hope for sooner rather than later when it comes to Lanegan's music.

I heard the 9th too but that was before the Greg / Mark acoustic shows were accounced. I figured that pushed it back a little. I also heard Mark and Isobel are working on setting up some US dates for April so that's another reason I said I wouldn't count on the Lanegan album. Plus I assume Soulsavers are going to tour to support the album. But, I agree with ya. If anyone could record an album and get it out that quick, Lanegan is the man!!!! So maybe......

Ah, then I won't hold my breath. I don't consider things like "they want to head into the studio in a few months" to meet the level of stuff I look forward to in a given year, because it never materializes. I remember hearing that about PJ last summer and laughing at the people adding PJ to their anticipated releases for 08 ;)
