I understand everybody has their own taste and all but to all or anyone who thinks John Mayer has no talent, as a musician and guitar player myself, I have to STRONGLY disagree. If you have listened to any of his trio stuff, or anything besides his poppy radio hits I think your opinion would change. I have no problem saying he is probably one of the best guitarists of our generation. He has played with all of the greats and there is a reason why. It sucks that Eddie lost to him but I'd rather see him lose to Mayer than someone who actually has no talent. (tough catagory to be in)

Go Ahead and start bashing me. I just ask that you do some research before the bashing starts :)

Not winning a Grammy is better than actually winning one these days. And they put the Jonas Brothers before fucking Paul McCartney...wth?

No offence, but what the hell is that supposed to mean? We don't know what he currently thinks of the Grammys. Like it or not, the Grammys are music's highest honour....and of course it (like music fans and artist) have changed over the years. The American Music awards are the joke...not the Grammys...
The Grammy's are music's highest honor? Please. It's all political. Just who decides who's the ultimate in music, besides the music industry? They're glorifying themselves, that's all it is. Why do we need someone else to decide who's "best" anyway? It's all subjective after all.

Did you just compare Jethro Tull to Milli Vanilli? :o
    ...
When Jethro Tull wins the 'Best Heavy Metal' awards in 1989... over a Decade beyond 'Aqualung', Thick As A Brick' and 'A Passion Play'... and beat Metallica. Then, Yes... Jethro Tull gets put in the catagory of 'Most Monumental Grammy Fuck-Ups'.
Same goes for 'Steely Dan' winning in 2000someThing... way after those tremendous records they made in the 70s and 80s... and Herbie Hancock winning last year, but somehow was passed over for all of those innovative records he made with Chick Correa and Stanley Clarke in the 1970s.
In other words... The Grammy haven't become a joke... The Grammys have ALWAYS BEEN a joke ever from the beginning. They were glorifying 'Kool And The Gang' and 'K.C. and the Sunshine Band' as 'Best Rock Groups' in the mid 70s... when LED ZEPPLIN, THE WHO and PINK FLOYD were out there.

    THAN

Unlike then, than is not related to time. Than is used in comparative statements.

    EXAMPLES:

~Another pair of words that I see misused far more often
than not is than and then.
~He is taller than I am.
~Other than the interest on a small inheritance, he had no income.
~Today's students certainly do seem to read less than students in previous generations did.
~We learned more on the playground than we did in the classroom.
~Despite their lack of flavor, the hothouse tomatoes cost far more than those from the farmers' market.

    THEN

Then is used either as a time marker or with a sequence of events.

    EXAMPLES:

~I took all of the exams in the morning, and then I spent the rest of the day catching up on sleep.
~Back then we knew what was expected of us.
~I bought apples from this orchard last summer, but I seem to remember paying more for them then.
~Look over the study guide first, and then if you still have questions bring them up in class.

I wanted Eddie to win more than anybody eventhough the Grammy's don't mean crap. With that said I am with this guy. John Mayer is one of the best guitarists I have ever seen live. If you get past the "Your Body is Wonderland" crap, you will notice the guy writes great songs and is one of the best guitar players today. Go checkout Where the Light Is, a Danny Clinch movie covering 3 concerts. John Mayer Trio, solo acoustic and his full band. Shit is amazing! Go ahead and flame away

I think one year the Stones beat Pearl Jam and Nirvana for best rock record. They won with Voodoo Lounge I think and beat not only In Utero, but Vs. as well. Now that is paying someone way past due, Stones should have won for Exile, Sticky Fingers, or Some Girls, certainly not Voodoo Lounge. I can't wait in 15 years when Pearl Jam gets their Grammy.
    32 shows and counting...

Further proof that the Grammy's are less in touch with music than my Grammy who just turned 85 a few weeks ago.

I liked Eddie's chances in the category. I actually thought it would be Springsteen though. I can't comment on John Mayer because I leave the room whenever I hear his god awful voice (which gets to be a challenge given how many times he is played in elevators and doctor's offices).

Over on the DMB board they are freaking out that the montage for musicians who passed away this year DID NOT include DMB founding member and Grammy winner LeRoi Moore. They just missed him I guess. Unbelievable.

I love hip-hop and really love M.I.A. and Jay-Z but Swagga Like Us was horrible.

    Jonas Brothers? Ugh.

The music industry continues to die. The Grammy's remain irrelevant.

I finally had to turn the Grammys off when Ed lost to Bono for 'Best Karaoke Performance of Where the Streets Have No Name.' Screw you, Grammy.

Not a Mayer fan for sure (even less of a fan of his douchey personality) - that said, he certainly can play guitar (the John Mayer Trio stuff speaks for itself)...the one guy in my office that swear by him also rocks out to Coldplay - coincidence? I think not.

Radiohead stole the show. Period. How they didn't win album of the year for In Rainbows is mind blowing.

    I expected Eddie to lose.
The Grammy Awards are not exactly known for having their finger on the pulse of good music, so it's not really a big deal anyways. It would have been nice to see him win...but Eddie could probably care less. There's a reason why he never goes to these award shows, and I think he pretty much spelled it out painfully clear the last time he attended the Grammy's

As for John Mayer... his music is complete commercial swill.
Sure he can play the blues...But so can a thousand other guitar players out there.

    He's not doing anything groundbreaking.

It's just typical run of the mill technique. The same basic 12 bar honkey bullshit we've heard a million times over.

C'mon... It's not like Mayer's changing the instrument.

He's no better at the blues than the 50 year old BB-King cover band playing for beer and drunk cougars down at the local pub everynight.

If you want to hear a modern twist on old blues...check out Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys.

He'll make Mayer look like a cheap 3rd rate hack.
