How awful is this. Death toll will probably rise.

My thoughts are with those affected.

Terrible events, those poor CFA fighters.
How hot was it yesterday?! This weather is insane.

I cannot stop thinking about how terrible those fires must have been. The weather has been unbearable down there. The weather has gone nuts! Between Melbourne and Adelaide as well as over 60% of Queensland being in flood one wonders what will happen next! My thoughts go to people who have lost so much, it is a very sad day.

It's amazing to think how polarised Australia is. One extreme up North to another down South.

It is amazing that with all the technology etc we have at our disposal that these fires have been able to take so much life. It really does show that mother nature is formidable.
It is incredible to think that they think some people have lit some of the fires on purpose?

    65 dead, 700 houses
    it is crazy
but a week of 40+ temps and topped off with high 40's the other day, there was a real risk of this happening!

For sure there was a huge chance of it happening and they were warning and preparing people but they think arseholes have lit some of the fires.... it is just inexcusable!

I had forgotten the CFA; they define what the human fighting spirit is! Much thanks to the CFA and all the emergency services, it is a shit job they have done and will have to do in the coming days. At least the temps have come down.

I heard about this on the BBC the other night. All the best to our friends downunder. We've had our share of arsonist (deliberate act or not) here in the states as well. Crazy mofos...

I am so sorry to hear about this tragedy - ongoing I guess. We have been in the midst of our natural disaster - the big ice storm, but it has not claimed near the lives that the fires have, nor have many homes been lost. I am so sorry to hear of this.

There's some volunteer firies who light up fires so they can get the rush of fighting a big fire.

News mentioned there's a firy who went out to fight one, and the wife and kids perished while he was out. :|

Its so horrible. My mate Lives in King Lake, and thankfully he is ok, but has lost everything.

The support and way the whole nation has come together has made me proud to be an Australian.
Not to mention the CFA who are still out there

It is awful. Hearing of a man who did not know if his wife and 3 kids survived, then someone had told him they saw his wife and kids go back into their house which was burnt down shortly after.

Or the young woman who didn't know how her mother was. She was staying at her house and said she was going to sit in the spa and throw a blanket over her when the fires came. I can't believe it.

Mother Nature, can be so beautiful, but man she is a vicious bitch,

Whatever the eventual death toll is, I can tell ya, surviving with 80% burns isn't much fun, either.

Tragic, but here is my beef on the whole situation.

i know that reporters have a job to do and that job is to report the news, but is it necessary for every fucking man and his dog to go down there getting in the way and draining supplies that people who actually have lost everything need??

like i watch 7 a bit, and the sunrise team are down there, mike munro from that new sunday night show on 7 was down there, and watching just the local QLD news they have flown Kay Margrath the local host down there to get in the way. and i'm sure it's the same for most other channels/newspapers/radio.

fuck me it annoys the shit out of me. if koshie came up to me in my burnt out house and asked me what i've lost or how devastating it must be to have lost it i'd punch him in his fat fucking head. of course it's devastating dumbarse now put that fucking microphone down and help me clean this shit up.

    I agree fishy,

When my friends up the road lost everything in the storm back in November, chanel 10 turned up at their house to do an interview/report etc.. I was in there, cleaning up, trying to retrieve life time memories and possessions, and that is exactly how I felt. Put down that camera, stop glorifying/horrifying/reporting and help this poor family out. That situation was different in that much of the stuff was salvageable, and no one lost life. I can't imagine how i would feel in this current situation. My love and thoughts go out to all these people affected.

This is tragic. One of my best buds lives outside of Melbourne. I haven't heard from him in a few days (which is pretty normal these days). I hope that he and his family are all ok.
