Oh, and Tombstone is much, much better than Wyett Erp!

Why because Val Kilmer is in it? ;)

I do think that Val did a great job as Doc in Tombstone, but I just think Tombstone was much better done. Probably sensationalized a bit for Hollywood though. In regards to Wyett Erp, I just don't think Costner did that great of a job. He has made good movies in his career but, Wyett Erp, Waterworld, and The Postman were very crappy. He kept trying to make epic movies after Dances with Wolves, but never was able to hit a home run again.

I am going to say again that if anyone hasn't seen "Once Upon a Time in the West", and they like westerns, they should definitely check it out. Its a classic.
I agree, I think Tombstone was done better and Kurt Russel was good in it as well. Open Range was a good western with Costner, but Robert Duvall was good in it as well.

  • I forgot Open Range. That was a good one. Very understated performance from Costner.

The fight scene at the end is IMO the best Old West gun fight ever made.

Yeah, it really is. It was staged very well. I also like when Costner walks up to the gunslinger and goes, "You the one that killed our friend?" And the guy answers "Yeah" and says he shot the boy too and before he can really finish Costner just blows his head off.

Since seing that movie, I've thought if they ever made a Dark Tower movie, Costner could play Roland.

Saw The Assassination of Jesse James last night. Good movie. Too freaking long though. They could have taken an hour of that.

    Fair enough answer. :)

I didn't like it cause it was too Hollywood. Kurt's acting was a bit too much. Kevin's version I like cause it explains and shows more of what Wyatt's life was before he became a lawmen.[/quote]

Yeah, Kurt has kind of run his course and his lack of versatility is clearly evident. Though he was good in Vanilla Sky. I can see how you would like the historical narative of Wyett Erp's life. I was a history major so I can definitely relate. Truthfully, I haven't seen Wyett Erp in a long time, so maybe if I rewatched it I could gain a new appreciation for it. I just really enjoyed Kilmers performance. Back in the day he was the man.

Another scene I liked was Costner and Duvall talking as they got ready for the gunfight and Duvall's character saying he didn't know what to expect. Costner starts telling him exactly how it's going to go down and all of a sudden you realize that this guy has a history that you never even imagined.

Great movie, a shame it was so overlooked.
