I once worked for a place that I asked for it to be 4 10-hour work days. Are you kidding me? 4 days of work, 3 days off. It's only 2 extra hours. I was able to keep myself busy during the whole day, and when busy, I didn't notice the extra 2 hours.
Only thing to consider is do you have kids? If so, you will need to see how much extra time you may miss with them. Aside from that, totally do it.
of course, I've also had jobs where I worked consecutive 18 hour days... so I'm able to get thru tough hours too.ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.

If your the hours are flexible, you can always start super early and still be home to have quality-kid time, too! My husband gets up about 4 hours before we do, lol, and he is home every day at 5 to eat dinner with us and morph into "Super Dad".0 -
Its better than a 5 day work week. In my past life when I used to work my work week was 24 hrs on 72 hrs off with mutual trades pretty much any time you needed off!So, What you Giving ?........ (Thanks Speedy, Alesek, & Arq+friends)
What You Giving
I suggest you step out on your Porch.
Run away my son. See it all. Oh, See the World!0 -
10 hours a day seems daunting but i think i would be willing to do it.These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0

They're really not that bad at all. You get used to it right away. Plus you actually get more time in the long run.
Just by spending the extra two hours a day, for four days, you get a whole extra day off rather than have another 8 hour day at work.
Plus on top of saving yourself the 8 hours of work for that day, you also save your self the time it takes to wake up each that day before work and get ready, and the time you'd spend on your commute to and from!
Not daunting at all! Put it in the good perspectives and take it that way.0 -

Due to money issues, we did it this past summer and most of us liked it. We even cheated a bit and did 4 - 9.5 hr days (8-5:30). Having Friday-Sunday off was awesome...
About the only complaint that I did here from a couple co-workers were issues with childcare, and running into conflicts with daycare pickup and drop-off times with the long work days.My whole life
was like a picture
of a sunny day

That's why my employer gave us the option to do this over the summer - so we could save gas. I thought that was a great idea!0 -

i think i would LOVE it!
funny too, my colleague and i were just discussing this yesterday. we are the only 2 people in our group to do our job, and we could easily do it in 4 days, outside of busy seasons...here 5, 6, 7 days a week.....12, 14, 16 hours a day......... however, i was thinking more along the lines of regular 8 hour days. haha.
i still would be all for it at a 10 hour day, although with my commute it would be a 12.5 hour day. i just would want my husband to work the same schedule. having a monday or friday...hell, even wednesday...would be awesome, a nice break...good day for shopping/errands....but i don't want a day to myself at the expense of daily time with my husband. i know during busy seasons when i work the crazy-sick hours...it's like we never see each other, even if i am home on the weekend, b/c i am just so exhausted. so it definitely is all about balance to me. i know my husband has said his job has been hinting at the possibility. if it happens, i may ask at my employer if it's at all possible. dunno. given the economic climate, i am just so thankful to have a job, and a generous one at that!Stay with me...
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow0 -
I work a rotating 12 hour schedule, and the total time away from home with the commute is 14.5 hours per day. The longest stretch on either days or nights is 4 shifts, and by the time they are done I am ready for a few days off. Our "shit week" consists of working Fri/Sat/Sun days, off on Mon, then nights for Tue/Wed/Thurs. Thats 72 hours at the jobsite (87 hours away from home) in 1 calendar week. It sucks. Cant do anything and you miss alot of the family/school events. The "bright side" of 12's are that I get 7+ days off in a row every month, and I am a union member and get 16 hours of built-in overtime pay (1.5x) every month (28 day cycle).
Oh yeah, I would definetly do the 10's though if they were offered."...would you like some forks?" EV 12-02-060 -
It's already happening
Wish you were here...
