i'm signed up on farecompare.com that sends me alerts, but wondering if there are any sites people use to keep an eye on good fares for european destinations? me and my sis are going to spain in the fall, and the prices usually run between $750-900 (from SFO). i doubt we'd find anything cheaper, but doesn't hurt to keep an eye out!

thanks in advance for any help :)

I've always just used the majors... expedia, travelocity, etc. The price is pretty much set by the airline and all those websites do is run searches for you to compare across airlines more easily. I just booked a round trip flight from Chicago to Paris and returning to Chicago from Madrid... cost $675. I can't remember what website my friend dug it up on, but I bought the tickets directly from the American Airlines website.

yeah i've been looking at orbitz and kayak too, just to get a feel. that's a great deal you got! we wanted to zip over to paris for a couple of days and thought of taking the train or a flight. i'll see about flying into madrid and then out of paris combo, in case that helps with the price any. thanks!

we've been wanting to go and see family for a long time now, and decided to make it happen this year. after having 2 aunts pass away last year, it'd be nice to see the rest of our aunts and uncles while they're above ground. i'm gonna see if i can save up enough so i can pay for our dad to come along too. she's never been either, so it'll be a blast!

my boss gave me $500 as a xmas present, which she said had to be used only for travel....so i'm putting that towards the fund, along with my tax return :)

Yup, I'm thinking of a huge road trip west too... Yellowstone, redwood forest, seattle and maybe the northern lights. Once I start working for a firm, I probably won't get a vacation for 5 years or so... might as well splurge and do it now. If I run up the credit card, I run up the credit card.

I'm happy to hear there are kids that can still have fun that doesn't involve $500 pieces of electronics and sitting on their ass in their own basement.

yeah it's a special place for sure. now they have tons of apartments and B&Bs for people who like to camp and ski there. which is great for the local economy. when i went 10 years ago, they had just put in a stop sign. and it was for the cattle  nobody locked their doors either. my aunt told me they only lock them at night...i asked why, she said cuz of the wolves that come down from the mountains  lol

thanks, i hope so too. he's not fully aware we're trying to do it, but like he's gonna complain haha

  • I just applied for a couple internships in Europe this summer, and I'm really hoping I get one of them, I've never been to Europe and have always wanted to go. They actually even let you kind of pick your working schedule so that as long as it averages out to working 5 days a week, if you wanted you could work 15 days in a row then have a week off just to travel and whatnot. If I don't manage to get an internship, I'm planning a huge backpacking trip this summer, hopefully out west, and Europe will have to wait a couple years until I graduate from college
