With only 2 weeks until pitchers and catchers report, i feel its time to get this mutha rolling. Yankees obviously were the high rollers this offseason, picking up CC, Tex, and AJ. The Giants are looking more and more like contenders in the West. The Rangers might give LA a run at the West. The trash talking between in the NL East between the Phils and Mets sure looks like it will make for a good race, but Chipper and the Braves have other plans. As always the NL Central Race will be a roller coaster ride with 4 teams in contention. The AL East might be the hardest division in baseball. The Yankees obviously will emerge as favorites but the Sox, Rays, O's, and Jays all have legitemate chances this year. The Manny saga continues leaving some to believe he'll end where no one expects. Here's to another awesome season!!! Lets all kick back and enjoy the greatest sport in America.
My (most likely wrong) Predictions:

Yankees
AL Central Winners:
Twins
AL West Winners:
Rangers
AL Wild Card:
Red Sox
NL East Winners:
Mets
NL Central:
Cubs
NL West:
Giants
NL Wild Card:
Phillies

In 2008:
They finished 22 games under .500
Were 29th out of 30 teams in runs scored.
Were dead last in the MLB in home runs hit (94 ... only 94 home runs ALL YEAR for this team)
Their only off season signings, the erratic Edgar Rentaria and the 45 year old Randy Johnson.
So ... what in the world makes you think they look like contenders?
you know me, sox fan ... I just live out here ... and marvel that GM Brian Sabean still has a job. The Barry Zito contract still strikes me as the WORST contract ever given to anyone in baseball. (7 year $126M in case you forgot).
"I don't believe in damn curses. Wake up the damn Bambino and have me face him. Maybe I'll drill him in the ass." --- Pedro Martinez
I'm a fan, but they have something to prove to me this season.
Peace peaple.

I'm so excited for this season!!!

Good to see a fellow Tiger fan... I grew up on them, spent my childhood watching them set records for being terrible. That season 2 years ago was such a tease! Anyway, it will be interesting to see if all that money they dropped the other season pays off at all this year. They badly need some consistency this season... they've been plagued by injuries too. I keep hoping they'll dump Roger and Sheffield, but I don't see it happening just yet. Still a bit disappointed that they traded Pudge... that was a poor decision.
We'll see. I am (extremely) cautiously optimistic.
Go M's.
See the signature.
Pudge's time was coming to an end. I hate that they went and got Firecan Farnsworth though. I like that they sured up some of the defense with Laird behind the plate and Inge at 3rd. Guillen at left might be interesting. It's all about pitching again. Hopefully they get something out of either Robertson or Willis. I'm not as hopeful as last year, so maybe they'll come back and play well. Last year was so disappointing.

I agree with soulsinging, I hated to see Pudge go, but I also agree with Smithnic, I think his time in Detroit was at an end. I think it was ridiculous to get Farnsworth, Pudge was worth much more.
I'm skeptical about Guillen in left. I think with Mags in right and Guillen in left, Granderson is going to have his work cut out for him. Stuck between two guys who aren't the most mobile is going to keep Granderson running hard.

I hate this team. They are a laughing stock and can never do anything right.
But they are the home team, so what am I going to do. All of you guys bitching about the Cubs or whoever, just be glad you aren't a Rangers fan.

easy there, guy.
seriously though, i'm wondering how many games in september we will spot the mets this year...or if we will just run away with the damn thing and save the suspense for the playoffs.....hmmmmmmmm
tony cornheiser is a tool.
I know Pudge was having a tough time spending whole seasons behind the plate, but he seemed to bring so much to the team in terms of spirit... he had the most heart in the whole club. Somebody needs to step into that leadership role now... cos it won't be Sheffield and much as I love Ordonez... he looks stoned all the time Glad to see Inge staying on though. Their pitching was supposed to be the strength last season!

"someday we'll go all the way"
hahahahahahahahahahahaha.......................who the fuck are they kidding?????
that someday will be when im dead and buried....
those assholes broke my fucking heart last season....AGAIN
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
I met Inge last summer in the Dexter Pub. He was there for some fundraiser for the local Little League. He was incredibly friendly and cool. He took a lot of shit last year with people saying he's overpaid and under productive at the plate. But he seems like the kind of guy you would want on your team and in your clubhouse. And you'd be hard pressed to find a better defensive third baseman in the AL, IMO
Bite your tongue.

It could happen...the Padres and Rockies will suck, for sure....the Dodgers have lost Penny, Lowe, Saito, Kent and may or may not sign Manny....the D'bags don't scare anybody.
The Giants will have a rotation of Lincecum, Cain, Zito, Sanchez or Lowry and Johnson. The rotation alone will give them a chance in that crappy division. Why NOT the Giants??

Considering that no defending champion has made it to the World Series since 2001, the Phils number 2 starter has never won 15 games and is a head case, the number 3 starter is 46 coming off by far his best season in 5 years, their best setup man and best lefty reliever is out a third of the season and the Phils have a 3,4,5 made up of lefties, I would put the odds not too high on repeating.
Last year was magical and the Phils gelled in October asking that two years in a row is asking a lot.
Case in point, a great season for a closer is a 90% save conversion rate. If Lidge only converts 90% of his saves last year, the Phils missed the playoffs.
The Phils current odds at repeating are 12-1 which is really good and gives them according to Vegas the 7th best odds at winning the Series. But I wouldn't touch that bet. Too many things have to go right for the Phils to repeat.
