How is it that the old board still pulls more viewers?

i joined over there, but haven't actually read or truly visited...so no comments there. only thing to say is, overall..that's what always seems to happen with unmoderated and/or not well monitored boards. i find, in time, most of these self-run fan-boards actually become more board-nazi, and more mods than needed - people get power hungry and talk about cliquey!, than ever at the official pj bbs's. thus why i am always happy to be here. no one is perfect, but i think kat/sea do an excellent job overall in trying to maintain a good atmosphere/balance.

i disagree with this. i find boards like RM and pearljamboots.com to be hardly board nazi at all.

I like RM a lot and have had an account there for years, but, I think due to them having a lot more mods and admins, they are less likely to keep stupid threads and multiple threads open. They are quick to close and merge threads. And that is not always a bad thing. Like I said, I like RM. I think that is what Dreamn was talking about when she said "board nazi."

i noticed on the new board that it said something like "logged on within the last 5 minutes". maybe the old board keeps people logged in even after they close their window, for longer maybe hours or days?

absolutely. also, from what i have seen - and i know i have not visited/joined EVERY pj-fan board out there, not by a long shot - but RM most definitely seems to be the best of the lot from my limited experience. i just remember when AET got shut down a few years ago, and all the boards that popped up, people clamoring to be mods, people randoming banning others for 'fun'....the BS that spewed forth, etc, etc....just not my scene. i think RM is a bit more serious than those kinda places, and has gotten more and more balanced. however, still think almost all of em are more cliquey - in general, and i remember lots and lots of threads filled with pics of llamas......so yea.......:P

the llamas, well...they never seemed to be the topic, or at all related to the thread topic, just randomly thrown in. i am sure it was an *in* joke, ya know? but sure, to an outsider such as myself...you're reading a thread, and bam!...a pic of a llama...then more, and more.....and in other threads, etc. just discussing the differences......

btw - just too a gander at the old board to see what liz mentioned...and yep...gone! i actually prefer that, especially for the art wall. didn't much like all those posts hanging out for anyone, yet locked up.....better to be gone entirely. so yes, i don't think too many will be logging on there anymore.

not too many people pass by my cube...and if they do, most are peons like me. just when the occasional partner walks by be nice to 'look busy'....hahaha. i am pretty good tho at staying aware of my surroundings.
