Well I've listened to Harvest Moon and On The Beach so far, not bad.
What would you guys/girls rank as his best albums & songs?

Harvest, Mirror Ball, Freedom, Ragged Glory, After The Goldrush, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, & Rust Never Sleeps.
But Live at Massey Hall (a recent release of a 1971 show) is pretty effing amazing.
Rust Never Sleeps is my favourite so far, Harvest is up there.
Is the 92 album Harvest Moon a good album? It is rated high on Allmusic....
Neil is playing at the Big Day Out tomorrow, I think tickets are sold out but I don't think I can justify spending $130 or whatever they charge to get in to see his 1 hr set at 9.30 am.
I got a overseas vacation to save for hehe.
But i'm a massive fan of his crazy horse stuff, i listened to a lot of his 70s stuff. Right from the outside i listened to live rust after a few others and just couldn't stop listening to it, so many great version of songs. My favourites are Cortez the killer, and hey hey my my (acoustic version > electric). Those 2 songs are genious. BUt i also love needle and the damage done, sugar mountain, down by the river, cowgirl in the sand, comes a time, powderfinger, lotta love, old man, man needs a maide, like a hurricane, tonights the night.
Get the Live at Massey Hall album. It has a lot of your favorites on it.
My list...subjective of course...favorite Neil Albums (non-bootleg)
Studio:
1.Everbody Knows this is nowhere.
2. Tonight's the night
3. Rust never Sleeps
4. Harvest
5. After the Goldrush
Live:
1. Live at Massey Hall
2. MTV Unplugged
3. Weld (2 disc)
4. Sugar Mountain live
5. Road Rock vol. 1
** Special mention for Zuma which contains two classics Dangerbird and Cortez the Killer.
yeah i've given that a spin too!
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Harvest
After the Goldrush
On the Beach
Tonight's the Night
Zuma
Rust Never Sleeps
Live at Massey Hall
They're all classics and excellent. I have a one-disc distillation of Weld as well. I want to get Live Rust or Live at the Fillmore sometime soon.
On the really rocking side, Ragged Glory is pretty tough to beat... it's the album that has Fuckin Up on it. Other than that, Zuma is pretty good, or Everybody Knows. Rust Never Sleeps is one of the more well known Crazy Horse albums. The first half is acoustic, but the second half rocks hard.
Ragged Glory
Year of the horse
Weld
What a great album.
Neil is on stage performing here in Melbourne as I type.
He's performing a 1.5 hr set at the annual Big Day Out music festival.
I mean It has cowgirl in the sand, down by the river, cinnamon girl, and the title track.... right there it is off to a pretty strong start.
Charlotte 03
Asheville 04
Atlanta 12
Greenville 16, Columbia 16
Seattle 18
Nashville 22
Ohana Festival 24 x2
They were selling it for £3 - roughly 6 bucks over here. Was so tempted to get it...
I didn't care for Greendale. It's kind of a concept album, and in my opinion, kind of gets away from Neil's style. I saw a show from the Greendale tour, and I was disappointed. I think it's one of those things where you love it or hate it. I liked Chrome Dreams II much better.
Greendale is Neil's Rock opera.
IMO- the track titled "Bandit" is the best track off of Greendale.
A good reason to avoid it... rock operas pretty universally suck!
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.
Is that the one right before On the Beach? Wasn't it never released on cd?
to add to the thread, i've always liked:
On the Beach
Zuma
Freedom
Everybody Knows This is Nowhere
Live Rust
just get Decade people. it has a ton of great tracks on it.
But Decade also has the shittiest cd sound transfer of all time. It sounds like you're listening through a blanket.
All the albums you listed rule though.
And today I decided that Live at Massey is the best live album of all time.
