95? 96? Watch early stuff from PJ and it completely blows you away with the intesity. EVERY member is basically going crazy and owning the stage, now, its about as intense as bingo night at the retirement home. I know they got older but, what happened?

When they grew up. You should look into that phenomenon.

Both the band and the fans matured.

    Teenage angst got old.
We don't want to crowd surf and mosh anymore.
but I still think we rock out pretty hard.

Compared to like.... Barry Manilow fans.

Pearl Jam kick ass still to this day!!!!
  • ed would look utterly ridiculous doing that schtick today.

    They're 20 years older

    move on

obviously you aren't in tune with the orgasmicly intense vibe that runs through the crowd like a million volts of electricity!!!

i like to use the Michael Jordan metaphor.in his first comeback with the bulls he didn't jump as high or soar as long but MJ was a much better PLAYER (veteran experience) PJ is the same way.

Actually for me watching pre-1995 PJ makes me feel embarassed for them. All the long, flowing, cream-rinsed hair on everybody and the shirtlessness, and the prancing. I like the old songs but that early-90's almost GNR image of PJ is dated and silly now.

i like this thread...regardless if anyone loves the old dayz or not...it is comical to see them back then, i must admit...and hell i was a different person 15years ago!

funny how some really great song can be written with angst in mind...whether its a angst about the world, a recent girl break up etc etc

some of the best songs need angst

i suppose i dont have teenage angst anymore but certainly eddie and the boys have lot to be angry with ;)

save you and wws come to mind
  • 95-96 sounds about right. they lost their edge. i think a lot of people want to believe they haven't but we all know the reality. i still buy their stuff and go to shows but things like pinkpop 92, evenflow video, Atl 4-3-94 will never happen again.

its obvious that shows were crazier, more intense, and heavier back then.

however, to say they have gone soft is craziness. the band has grown and matured musically much more. they are a much better band now. the shows are tighter, longer, have better setlists, and are performed better. yes the early crazy days are AMAZING, but its all a part of the evolution of the band. no code - present has produced unbelievable albums and undeniably the band's greatest tours containing some of their most legendary and epic shows, whether or not people are crowd surfing and ed is jumping off of ledges. i much prefer the creative diverse pj. the passion is WITHOUT A DOUBT still there. its just not expressed in the same way anymore. sorry bro, i think you're dead wrong.
perfectly said - couldn't agree more...

They are still together as a band!!!!
Most bands break up because of ego's, drugs etc.....
And I bet the same guy talking crap will be attending a show sooner then later.
like I said before this guy needs attention and post this kind of thread here is craze but to each his own.....

Like someone said earlier. Ed never moves anymore. Even Bono from U2 still runs all over the place. I think it gets the crowd going better if Ed would would move around more. Stone use to move too, he kinda stopped also.

are you kidding?? - ed never moves anymore?! he does too. you think the crowd would get going better if he moved more?! - man, it's not dancing with the stars!!

AND bono looks like a dickhead 'running all over the place'. puh-lease.

btw, dunkman, i knew you'd turn up in this thread. amen, bro. it's not 1992 anymore and thank god for that.

Bono doesnt look stupid..he owns the stage. Ed is basically a statue now. Only on big venue's does he move around. So what your saying is that when you mature as a band, you stop moving around the stage?

If south park made an entire episode showing how much of a tool he is, id say its pretty safe to say he is.

    Yea and ed doesn't move.......right.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-7MyOUeVd0

  • Thank God the shows have toned down a bit - at least as far as being in the audience goes. Dudes like me who were > 21 from the start are now "too old for that kind of shit".
