I hate to say this,
but this guy is starting to sound pretty smart.
Freezing the pay of white house employees who make $100K or more,
dissallowing lobbyists in his adminsitration to work on those issues which they previously lobbied,
and forcing them to sign papers that they won't go BACK to lobbying after they are done, for two years.

Something like that.

See,
if man does what he says,
maybe i won't be such a debbie downer on him.

I'm still skeptical,
but let us see what continues from here.

For today,
THREE CHEERS FOR OBAMA.

Hip hip hip.
:D:D:D
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

No I doubt that will happen , It's a perpetual lease I believe. We will always have a military base there.

well that just plain sux. it was not a lease with the current government. as a mark of goodwill the US government should hand back the land. it doesnt belong to them. they have no need to remain in cuba.

Territory captured/taken over In the Spanish/American War. I believe They spent the time til Castro as an american protectorate. Kind of the same as Philipines. Both had choice in form of government. And when Castro came along with the cold war in full force , sealed the deal as far as US presense on Cuba.

Obama just shut down all trials at gitmo for 120 days to review every single case there. gotta give him props, he's actually doing what he said he'd do.

I HOPE you're right! None of us have anything to gain, and quite a bit to lose if it turns out to be true that he is a Bush II.

What politicians say in their campaigns, and actually do when they're in office can be night and day. If W. had maintained the policies he spoke about on the campaign trail in 2000, he actually may have been a good president. The policies he talked about while campaigning in 04 were more typical of his whole presidency, sadly for us.

Basically, we need to watch what every politician does REGARDLESS. This is how it was intended to be. We have ourselves to blame when they fuckin shit up for us.

while I agree... I don't think it should be the most important thing on the agenda. There is plenty of cleaning up to be done by America worldwide and, while I'd love to see it all done now, I'm content to just sit back and take it one day at a time and see where it goes. It's impossible for Obama to right all the wrongs in one day, never mind four years but I'll be happy if he makes a good go at it.

Agreed... but he's always gonna start off on a high note... while good will is still very much there... he'll probably end on a high note too if he's going for re-election, it will be the middle two years where he REALLY proves himself. Nice to see this start though :)

You seriously didn't think they'd get a raise on their first day?

What's their salary now? Maybe its already a few years ahead of where it should be.

How's freezing a 100 white house staffers going to fix the economy?

If they really wanted to impress me, he could have told all the folks holding the inaugural balls to spend the money on the unemployed.

    I remain skeptical.

right on...what a dick he is I say....All those workers who worked at those balls should be ashamed of themselves...

by the way, I'm sure you've taken all of you expendable income and given it to the unemployed...

are you for real? what exactly do you expect a president, any president, to accomplish on day one of the job?

    as to the inaugural balls.....why?

however, i fully support healthy skepticism...but i also respect having an open mind to small steps, acknowledging good, moving in the right direction. i hardly believe obama expects anything he did on day one to 'fix the economy'......ridiculous.

If anyone actually expects him to fix the economy they are dreaming. The economy will come out of reccesion when people are ready and feel confident to spend again. And I could be wrong about this but I'm pretty sure the 1 problem that he can not fix is greed and that is why people are in this mess. My wife and I both have secure jobs and are in need of a new car, but do not feel confident enough in the Detroit 3 to buy just yet and I refuse to buy a foreign made car.

That's what I thought too. 3 days in office and already quite a few things he's promised came true.
