I liked it and thought Mickey Rourke was great. I think Marisa Tomei got the nomination because she is so damn HOT for a 45 year old.

Yeah it is insane that she was nominated for that. It's like nominating the old woman from Titanic. Tomei had very little to do with the story on top of hardly being in the movie at all. She was basically just there so Rourke could talk to her to give the audience info, ie about his daughter.

Just shows what a joke the Oscars are.

I never put much into awards or award shows

It's all subjective just like the movie

I look at a movie if I liked or not...not based off of an award or awards the actors might win

I had no desire to see this but have read so many great reviews of it that I'm gonna go see it at the weekend.

it seemed everyone was pulling for him

and it was the role of a lifetime for Rourke, that's for sure
    heartbreakingly autobiograhical...almost spooky

Sean Penn will always be the dude in the hawaiian shirt

    Nice shirt.
  • This was my favorite movie of 2008! I know I probably shouldn't say this on a Pearl Jam board because Sean Penn won, but I think Mickey was robbed of the Best Actor award!

Sean Penn WON???? WHAT THE FUCK???? I fucking knew it... milk was a great story destroyed by the need for all involved to win oscars. It just had that desperate feel to it.
    The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
    Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"
    Wembley? We all believe!
Copenhagen?? your light made us stars

  • As much as I hoped for Mickey Rourke to win it (it would have been a great ending to this little story of his comeback), I thought Sean Penn deserved to win just as much. I was really torn between the two. I'm glad that they have both been recognized for their work in these two films.

I saw it the other day, I can't say that I understand why everyone raved about it. I thought Marisa Tomei was going to have a more meatier role. It wasn't awful but i could understand why it didn't get nominated for an Oscar.
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.

Love him in just about everything. Hell, he was the only highlight in the extremely disappointing sequel to Iron Man.

His part in The Expendables should not have left the editing room floor.
