Nope done deal, although he did kinda flub it.

Actually, CNN was saying it was Roberts who flubbed it and not Obama. Roberts actually switched around the words of that line.
I'd agree with that... cos he spoke over him and it seemed like he was trying to put him off or something

I suspect that people at JFK's inauguration had the same thought. It's a boring ceremony. And there's nothing like revisionist history. I'm guessing JFK's inauguration speech wasn't being hailed as one of the greatest speeches ever until after he was dead. Until then, it was just another inauguration speech. But we all want life to mirror our movies.

I agree... If Obama's presidency turns out very well (or has movie-caliber moments), years from now there will be some clips of this speech in a movie with dramatic music and camera angles/montage shots, and some of the same lines will feel much more inspirational and emotional.

Exactly. If he's a dud, nobody will remember this. If he's assassinated or has a great presidency, I can already see Denzel onscreen with swelling strings and tears in the crowd saying "We are ready to lead again!"

Great speeches are all about context and melodramatic sentiment, and nothing helps that like cheap nostalgia.

I was watching his speech. I found the number of people there overwhelming!! The crowd went all the way back to the monument. Two million people the news people said...

I thought the speech was a little underwhelming, but had a nice finishing flourish.... which I have already forgotten. :o:mrgreen:

In a subtle way, Barack was (deservedly) bashing the crap out of the Bush years. GWB looked a bit uncomfortable. Again, deservedly so.

I actually thought it was a pretty powerful speach and thought Obama did a great job.

I noticed the bashing of Bush aswell, but i thought i saw Bush smiling in the background as if he had no idea what Obama was saying.

i watched it here on campus in sproul plaza on the jumbo-tron with what seemed to be a billion people, was a blast! i thought his speech was solid and sober. no real catch phrases or anything, but i found it moving. seeing the crowds in DC blew me away....i wanna go back now!

I don't remember a transistion where the outgoing president seemed like he was so much looking forward to getting out of the job at the end.

ya i know. and we are so happy to see him leave aswell :)

Obama just adressed Teddy collapsing, didn't go into if he is ok or not though. I hope he's fine, he wasn't even supposed to be there but pretty much said that he HAD to be there.

edit: ok they just updated that it was a seizure that lasted a long time... again didn't say if he was ok, but also didn't say that he wasn't so i'm going to stay on the positive side and say he'll be ok.

i disagree. this has been the smoothest transition in recent history. bush has handled this with a lot of class and dignity...he remembers the difficulty he had with the clinton administration and vowed not to let that happen when his time was up. i say bravo w...

definitely. even if he did a great job, the relief of not having the stress of being president anymore would be enormous. i think we were all just as relieved and happy to see his ass take off, i know i was anyway lol
  • I thought the chanting of ''hey hey goodbye'' by the crowd was a little rude. Like him or not he's the president and you don't do that.

i said it was in poor taste. sure, accurate  ...but in poor taste. i agree it's rude. but i was told that a public gathering such as that was one of the only times people get to express themselves. funny, i thought we did that, a lot more effectively i might add, in the voter's booth. ;)

i think obama was classy, and he's always been classy.....and i like and respect that. bush is a moron and a horror, but none the less....we the people - sadly, shockingly, voted for him 2x...so i agree, he was our president and a wee bit of decorum is a good thing.

but sure, hearing about it did make me smile a bit.

sure...but even given his failing, he did nothing remotely as hideous and ineptly as bush. but you've got to hand it to dubya, he did such a horror of a job, such a big fuck-up...and that's what i meant. if YOU fucked up that bad, wouldnt you want to run the hell outta there? that was my only point. :P

  • sure it's not very classy to sing that song to a president but really he's probably one of the most hated president in history and I have no problem with them doing that to him. Bush fucked up huge and I for one am so happy to see him out of office. and i'm not even american

oh i don't have a 'problem' with it either, at all. however, yes, i can still agree it's in poor taste, or unclassy as you put it, whatever. both can hold true, simultaneously. it's not how i personally choose to express myself, but if people want...all the power to em! and HELL YEA....happy to see bush out of office does not even adequately express it.

People expressing themselves is a wonderful thing. But that wasn't the time to do it. He's still the president and you have to give him that respect. It's not a sporting event people this is something alot different. IDK maybe it's just me. lol :)
