Why is it a common misconception in your country that being critical of the government and speaking out against things is anti American?
"You have the right to free speech, if your actually dumb enough to try it." - Joe Strummer
Wow, what an original critcism of American citizens. You must have worked really hard to come up with that observation on your own.
So because its not original enough CRITICISM for you means its not valid CRITICISM?
It's not that it's not valid, it's just not relevant in this particular situation. I was annoyed because the way the person I was addressing was going about making their point was exceptionally arrogant, which is what I was criticizing--not his politics. You then proceeded to apply a fairly generic criticism of Americans without really taking the time to think about the nuance of the situation. I don't know about you, but I take issue with someone who feels the need to be a intellectual bully in any situation, but especially in a thread about something as innocuous as if Ed will show up to sing with Bono or the Beastie Boys. Maybe I am the only one who feels this way though.
nah...hopefully they are home realizing the giant mistake they made supporting another puppet douche-bag sell out useless liar...Obama is just as useless as Bush!
don't agree?? let's see if he cuts military aid to Israel since our tax dollars in the form of U.S. manufactured weapons are being used to slaughter the Palestinians(which is half the reason for the media blackout..shit makes me SICK!!)...including White phosphorus which is illegal.
You make me sick! Are you antisemetic? Are you a racist? or just a bigot. From your other posts you are definately Anti-American. Roll out a map sometime, put one finger on Morocco and the other on Afganistan . . . look down and you will see a tiny sliver of land, thats called Israel. I suppose you want them to give up some land. Why is it that they are the most prosperous nation in the region. It can't be western democracy, can it? no, no way. Why don't you call up your brothers in Jordon or Syria or Lebonon and ask if they could give up some land for your dear sweet palestinians, wonder what your Facists brothers will say to you.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. The Palestinians have been launching missles into Israel for years now. They have admitted having missles aimed at Jerusalem that could obliterate that region. Now Israel has had enough violence aimed at them over the years and they decided to do something about it. Now everyone is feeling bad for the Palestinians because they are getting slaughtered and they underestimated the strength of the Israeli military. You reap what you sow.
ok ok ok...so i've read every singe post and i have formulated an opinion...you are both right in this situation...well about the "unamerican" remarks...
now he (the guy with the MJ pic) isn't being anti-american because he is speaking out his opinion on this country, on the decisions being made and the change that is coming...however, despite his opinions, despite his disagreements with who the People (yes i capitalized People) chose as the president, he needs to support the majority ruled decision and that is what makes him anti-american...when bush won again in 04, yeah we pissed and moaned, but we sucked it up because America (you can say all you want about the electoral college being fucked up) chose him to continue as president...we looked at the 4 years to come with optimism and an open mind and gave him a chance to prove himself worthy of his title. Yeah we were wrong, but this country is all about chance and opportunity, no matter how many times we are given it...
A beautiful thing happened that tuesday in November...whether or not you agreed with it, the first african american became president...if you can't honor the historic significance this has and looked back on the passed 150 years with aww in the acheivment of the black community...then you are unamerican. We need to look at this coming tuesday as probably the greatest moment in the US of A

PJ Fan est. 1990, I totally agree with you. It is a wonderful and momentous occasion. Not to sound cliched, but I have not felt this proud of being an American...scratch that, HUMAN in general.

Hey Im not standing on either side of the fence here, in fact I dont really agree with what he is saying, it just seemed like you were attacking his beliefs as Anti-American because they weren't the same as yours. I just was trying to point out that seems to be the norm these days weather it be right or wrong without trying to sound like I was in favor of his argument because I didn't want to be in the middle of your "discussion." I was trying to offend neither of you basically, not just throw out a cliche statement and watch from the sidelines, if I wanted to get more involved I would have articulated a bit more. I was simply making an observation on a well known, albeit generalized FACT.

Perhaps I am somewhat guilty of your original statement, but mostly b/c I have read many of his posts (from the old board) and find that he is anti-everything and anything but charming, especially when it comes to political discourse. I agree that Americans have sometimes veered off into jingoistic territory, particularly after 9/11. Though I think you and I actually agree on this one since I too am a big believer in questioning authority--even when the authority called into question is the country I call home and deeply love. Hence my user name...

Yes, please find me someone that truly enjoys your company aside from your Mom. Ask them to post here some details about what exactly they like about you. I am sure there is some good in you, but on this board (and the last one), the characteristic you are most likely to display is stridence.
You like to say that people are ignorant a little too easily. Just because I haven't been drinking the Kool-Aid does not make me (a) ignorant (b) not engaged in society or --perhaps most relevant for this thread (c) someone you even remotely know.
By the way, funny how you think you somehow take the higher road. Does the word douche bag ring a bell, Chief?
Anyway, I am officially done with you. Not because of your politics though (my neighbor is huge subscriber to the same conspiracy theories as you and we are good friends and talk often about politics), but instead because you are not very likeable and life is far too short to waste even another second on you. I am sure your Mom feels different though.

ah...i was wondering how long it would take you to make a kool-aid reference....typical sheeple response ...the douche bag comment was about Obama "chief" not you..go back and read the fucking post!
so you know everything I've ever said on this board and the other huh Mr.20 posts?!
stridence! you're funny!
I'm cool with a lot of people around here and i have proven myself to be a generous, compassionate person...i can't say the same for you.
I'm not very likable either?? funny!! i have many friends who would beg to differ ..I'm just not a brain dead conformist, so we have nothing in common to build a friendship on.
geee..you don't want to talk to me anymore...I'm so sad...that's OK..i still have my mom!
I like how some people feel the need for starting controversy, yeah im talking to you crazy breed. Learn to read the topic please. There is a sub board for politics why not go there? I guess some people just love attention. Grow up you.

Anyway on topic I don't think that they were/are.
I'm not trying to start "controversy" and i don't need any of your attention..but if you think you are going to tell me what and where i can say things you're out of your fucking mind...and i was on topic till the Obama police came after me..funny how you equate anti-Obama talk with immaturity..guess you're the one who needs to grow up.
I guess i upset all the Obama-ites ..the truth hurts huh.
sorry, some people take comfort in lies..I'm not one of them.
Anyone think there's a chance Ed or a couple of the guys show up at some of the concerts in DC this weekend?
All have been outspoken supporters of Obama. The Sunday concert at Lincoln Memorial is epic, with many friends of the band participating.
And on Monday the Beastie Boys are playing 930 Club with a few other bands...maybe a surprise performance?
This is weird because I had a dream over the weekend - it was very brief.
Ed was in the club and someone I trusted had already made arrangements for the designated area in the front. I was getting some drinks for us in the back and Ed got on the stage earlier than expected so people lost control of themselves running to the stage, including this person I trusted. I saw Ed for a second and turned around, this person was already gone and up in the front. People were pushing me further in the back.
I waved at that person, trying to get her attention and I knew she saw me, but she didn’t want to. She pretended not to see me.
Before the dream ended, I was thinking with a heavy sense of betrayal: “Not again. I got used again. Why do I put up with this?” Then I walked out of the club.
Ah well, it probably just means I saw this thread title last week and I haven’t really gotten over this issue that has happened to me at Lolla ‘07.
I did get to shake hands with Obama when he was President-Elect here in Michigan.
Who knows? Some lucky people may get to see Ed in a club.
JA: Why do I get the Ticketmaster question?
EV: It's your band.

That's what I was hoping for too...
