i've had problems accessing my email program. whenever i try to launch it now,

"runtime error!
program: c:\blahblahblah

abnormal program termination"

that's what i get. i've tried reinstalling the program, no dice. cleaned up the registry in the even that had anything to do with it, but still won't work.

any suggestions would be most appreciated :)

    need more specifics...

what email program? exact text of error message? what exactly did you do to the registry?

oh wow, someone helping...i thought for sure this would go down like a lead zeppelin :p haha thank you!

it's earthlink's mailbox....i've been using it for over a year, no problem at all. all of the sudden it just wouldn't work, regardless of me clicking on the shortcut or the actual program. i downloaded this program called 'wise registry cleaner' from the cnet website in case that might have helped any, but it didn't do anything to fix the problem. it doesn't give the error message with any other program. 'm stumped!

ok, good...I was worried that you went into the registry yourself. If you know what you're doing it's ok, but most people shouldn't mess with it...

question: have you tried rebooting the system? I know it may seem stupid, but sometimes that works...

oh hell no, i know better than to screw with that! i was nervous even using that program but i didn't smell any smoke afterwards so that was a good sign i guess lol

i did reboot, tried uninstalling the mailbox program and then reinstalling it, twice. should i try to reinstall windows (i should be able to do that without disturbing the hard drive contents, no?)

also, can you access your email through the webmail site or another email client like Outlook?

oh yea, i can do it thru the webmail site. it was just nice to have it on the computer as well because i could store messages without worry of them taking too much room (the site allows 100mb only). plus it pops up when a new message comes in which is convenient. i'm more just intrigued how to fix it, out of principle lol

no don't reinstall windows unless you back everything up first....

if push comes to shove, you can use a system restore point to go back to a time when the email client was working

damn...no offense, I was hoping you couldn't because then it could mean a problem on Earthlink's end and not your computer...

yeah reinstalling windows would be a major last resort, just to be safe, even though i'm good about backing my files up.

how do i do the system restore?

I think she means that she's got the email program up to date, along with virus protection, meaning it's not a virus causing this problem?

was that what you meant chiqui?

hmm...everything I have found in research says to uninstall and then reinstall...but that hasn't worked

have you deleted or removed any programs lately (other than this one)?
