One 50-60 year old English woman told me that when they were little they were told "if you see a Russian run away, otherwise he'll kill you".
Don't go messing with machoes!

Unfortunately, that will never change. Everyone is guilty of doing it at one time or another. These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0

That isn't true ?
Older generations usually have stereotypes
Brought up in a different world with a different way of thinking
Plenty of younger generations do as well mostly learned though and not livedMy drinking team has a hockey problem

I never listen to what English women say... they turn into vampires when the moon is full.I smile, but who am I kidding...0 -
i don't think things like this will ever go away. when i was little i wasn't allowed to get a Michael Jackson t-shirt. and my grandmother, to this day says the 'n' word. she'll be talking about a lady down the hall and say, 'she's a 'n****' you know....' grrr. i hate it, and i wish we didn't have all the stereotypes. :rolleyes:No need to be void, or save up on life...

eh..that is bad..I remember my grandmother used to say colored and I thought that was bad. It's a generational thing too I think...they have certain stereotypes and it sticks. These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0 -
My ex mother in law is the most racist person I know. I had to pull her up on numerous occasions about her racist language in front of my kids :(
It's sad how many people think derogatory language is still ok to use nowadays. I want my kids to grow up to be tolerant and non-judgmental and I think the best way to start that is at home.A human being that was given to fly.

i know. i guess i didn't fully explain myself. she says things like that (she/he is a n****, you know....) as if that explains a lot. that's what i meant. No need to be void, or save up on life...

that would explain a lot...I mean, the cold war and everything - it wasn't like Russians from the USSR were running around a lot...they weren't allowed out of their country except with a strict visa. so, it wasnt like the worst advice to tell a kid that if she saw a Russian - there may be a war or something imminent...
I am not excusing the idea that ALL Russians were/are trying to kill English women...but, I know that Mexifornians are especially susceptible to death by tickle attack by Congolese Ninjas with 12 toes. . . and it makes sense to me to give kids playing out in their yard a fair warning about the dangers of this modern cold war world.
*excuse me but i have to go back into my bomb shelter...I have to practice my duck and cover drill...because if a nuclear attack by those same Russians ever occurs, my thin plywood and aluminum desk will totally protect me.IF YOU WANT A PLATE OF MY BEEF SWELLINGTON, YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO PAY THE COVERCHARGE.0 -

I still think it's not very insightful because it was mostly blown out by the media. I mean they were really trying to create an image of a potential enemy.Don't go messing with machoes!0 -

The problem with this belief is that it's only true through selective omission. You can generally apply EVERY stereotype to people outside the race/religion the sterotype is intended to depict.
For example:
Certain people are called lazy....do you not know MANY people of MANY races that could be called lazy? And do you not know people of the intended group who are NOT lazy? Perhaps people running corporations, holding high political office, playing sports at the pro level or in the olympics, doctors, lawyers, etc.
Others are called cheap, stupid, smart, smelly, etc. I'm sorry, but the "reality" is that it applies to INDIVIDUALS within races/religions...and even if you can point out 100 out of 100 people in a specific group that it works for, I'll find you 100 out of 100 it doesn't work for. And for good measure, I'll find you 100 out of 100 of other races that it does apply to.
It's not the stereotype that fits the people...there are just individual people that fit stereotypes...and then there are those that are willing to omit everyone else to "prove" a stereotype true.Shawn Smith / Brad / All Hail the Crown / Satchel

he and a black guy get into all the time about it...i just keep my mouth shut despite the fact that it bugs the hell out of me.

hi Esther, now we are all going to be sick, thanks0 -
All of the old racism against black people, Russians and/or peoples of communist nations, and the Japanese and Chinese have been replaced by the current accepted racism against Hispanics and Middle Easterners.0

When i was a really young kid i used to talk to my grandmother and her sister's and their comments were always really racist, it was just the way they were raised, they were'nt bad people. I remember one time my gran's sister asking me if i liked athletics as it was television. She then said she didnt mind it but there far too many 'darkies' now and that the javelin suited them because they were used to chucking spears. It made for interesting listening some of the things they used to come out with!!People say im paranoid. Well, they dont say it, but i know that's what they are thinking.0
