If she is considered an icon, why did Gap drop her as the spokesmodel in....oh about 6 months I think?
Ageism. They dropped her for a woman that was younger then her. They 'claimed' her contract was up though. I think it was Julia Stiles but I can't remember who it was that replaced her.

She has her own low priced fashion line, Bitten by Sarah Jessica Parker. They sell it at Steve and Barry's.

Big is so nicknamed for his... anatomy.

and then Big went to Paris to find her but Petrovsky wasn't treating her right
and they found each other in Paris

and Big told Carrie she was "The One," and that's how the series ended.

In the movie that just came out here-it is set 5 yrs after that and they were still dating. His real first name is John.

I thought so. Why else would they call him big:D

I watched the Movie. Thought it was rather far-fetched. Nothing new but a lousy translation really pushed to me to go and watch the series in English.

I think that's why SJP was a good choice for the lead...she's not classically beautiful...it seemed to make it more real. I think the show struck a chord with a lot of fans because just like seinfeld...so many of the episodes really relate to real life (an exaggerated version, of course). I can see why a lot of guys wouldn't like it though...it's very disarming in a lot of ways. My brother HATES it. It was shown on cable - that's the only reason the curses, nudity, etc. were able to air on tv in the US. There's a watered down version airing on regular tv now...I haven't seen it, but can't imagine it would be quite as funny. And hey! Nothing wrong with a short girl wearing cute dresses :p

    exactly!

and hey, i personally couldn't care less if someone hates the show, we're all entitled to our own opinions and likes/dislikes...nothing wrong with that. i LOVE the show, love the movie....great, great stuff. my hubby liked it, in small doses, and sure...the nudity doesn't hurt either. ;)

btw - i am pretty sure mr. big was called that b/c he was a 'bigshot' - a powerful and rich man, not his anatomy. i believe they actually referred to him as 'mr. big' before carrie ever was physically involved. of course i could be wrong....but yea, i always believed it was simply b/c of who he was in the business world, and not his anatomy.

    thanks, I stand corrected
I think I was remembering a joke Samantha made?

    From Wikipedia:
"According to accounts in the press, the Mr. Big character was based on publishing executive Ron Galotti, former publisher of GQ and Talk magazine. Bushnell told New York Magazine in 2004: “He was one of those New York guys with a big personality—you just notice him as soon as he walks in the room,” and “I called him Mr. Big because he was like a big man on campus.”

I hope your ankle is feeling better. I sprained mine once getting off a bus in California. It is extraordinarily painful

i think she may've, but without actual 'knowledge' ya know? sad i remember the first 'meeting'...but i think they were all at a bar and/or party, samantha was doing her best to make a move on mr. big and she was smoking a cigar next to him, etc. carrie and big met there, but not much happened? i think after that they simply referred to him as big/mr. big...as in being the bigshot richdude, and it stuck. besides, SATC could be crass/rude at times, but i just could not imagine them being THAT crass in referring to a damn central character in such a way ALL the time. for a one time character, maybe......;)

and i did not know that! interesting. i recently read an article by the chick who wrote the book how it was all loosely based on her life, etc. very interesting.

    thanks!
    :)

I have watched a few epiosdes with my girlfriend ;) I think its harmless but yes some things in the show are very disarming. Isn't this the ultimate drama/soap for females?

It's def a show when watching it with my girl that it wears on me quickly maybe because it puts guys in such a bad light time and time again. Or highlights what we do wrong as a gender in relation to girls and dating/relationships.
but you gotta admit it's soooo on the money. How many times have i put on an episode and it relates to something you've just done? :D Guys may not like it...but so many of those episodes relate to real life - which I think is why it is so popular with women

it is not worth watching since John Corbett is gone :(

I am a girl by the way and the few times I watched it, I did not really like it that much.

SJP is a bit over rated and it is a wonder how long that series lasted. Samantha is the cats meow though.

I watched all the epis after the series had been over for awhile.. never struck my interest.. and to be honest with you im pretty much the anti chick but i couldn't stop watching them once i started!

Ended up watching the whole series in a month or so...

Really well made show... Its not boring like a "soap" if anything its the ANTI soap.. The drama is limited and all the story lines were simplistic and enjoyable. which i found quite refreshing and entertaining.

Whats shocking is that the dirty language and sex scenes seem to be what puts the males off about the show. I find that highly amusing :D

well yeah it is shocking but the show is so hilarious (mostly samantha)it's not soooo gratuitous.

I can't watch it on TBS...I prefer the uncut episodes.
