i'll be in new york city!! yep! 21st floor out of 50-something. we don't have a balcony... which i guess is a good thing, because college students + drunk & really high up = potentially disastrous.

we can complain about all our first year troubles here on the board. i'm looking forward to it hahahaha.

My first year myself and another guy were by far the more free-wheelin' ones and the other two...well, one of them was a total dumbass which we did not really realize until we lived with him and the other one, while a really nice dude, was a stick in the mud with a crazy ass girlfriend. We did get the stick in the mud extremely drunk one night by making up a bullshit drinking game in which he drank every time. He called his girlfriend at like 5 that morning because he was feeling sick and wanted her to come watch him because he, and I quote, "didn't want to go out like Jimi." Jimi as in Hendrix...the whole deal with the vomit
    haha...that's hilarious :D

At least he drank with you. My first roommate tried a sip of beer and a sip of smirnoff ice, and that's it. He denounced them as nasty and evil and looked down on me for drinking. Well, he looked down on me for that until I walked in on him playing pocket pool.

If I told all my college experiences with my roommates I'd surely be kicked off this board lol. A word of advice- your roommates may be different from your usual friends but learn to like them for who they are. That's what I did, with some reluctancy, and college turned out to be amazing. I just graduated in May and wish so badly that I could go back next month.

oh the other thing I wanted to mention...it's really more than your roommates that you'll be with all the time your first year, it's the whole floor!

I went to college from 89-93 and my rommmate from my freshman year is going to see Eddie Vedder with me on Friday night in Boston.

I still talk to 6 guys from my college days.

I'm the only one not married with kids.

hahaha at my college almost everyone lived on campus all four years, but you only got a roommate assigned first year. the pairs they make in those housing offices are pretty funny. If I think about the roommate groups on my first year floor, they all would make sense on paper, but in reality the people were all totally wrong for each other.

My first first year roommate had serious mental health issues and was taking so many hard core drugs so could barely interact with other people, let alone study at highly competitve college. She would do really weird things out of nowhere, like once she walked around the dorm distributing soda cans door to door (and it was my soda...). Some days it was really scary because she'd be hallucinating or she wouldn't talk...it was tough to be starting college myself so I couldn't do much for her. She ended up not coming back after christmas break. So...they assigned me a jan frosh for a new roommate. I got back after break and she was already there and had redecorated the whole room. She would cook soup in the room and it smelled horrible, and she also had really smelly work out clothes. She also started off hooking up with a lot of guys, but then settle on this one senior guy who slept over every single night. When you're in college, you put up with it because it's just the way it goes, but I had ZERO privacy. they were always there (they never went to his room) and it was a small room. I couldn't even change clothes in my own room...oh the weirdest thing she did-she used to pierce her own nipples. I came home on a couple occassions to find her sticking needles through her nipples.

    WHATTT? ouch!!!!!!!

haha distributing your soda... that's random!!

there are four suites on my floor. each suite has two rooms, and since i'm quiet i requested to be in a suite with 3 other people. so i have one more person in my room and two in the other suite. so if you put that all together I guess there's sixteen people on the floor? ...rusty math skills before college.

Yeah, one night that same guy poured up the shots for me and the other guy while he matched us shot for shot...with Mountain Dew. HA! That was ridiculous.
As for the pocket pool....after the stick in the mud and the dumbass were gone my lifelong best friend moved in, who was quite the drinker. Well, the other guy got up one morning and happened to notice the best friend laying sideways across his bed, dirty magazine by his side, pecker in hand and fast asleep...possibly the ultimate classic tale of getting busted in the act

I'm starting college this fall too at Loyola University Chicago. Actually very soon- August 20th is my first day. Unfortunately I'll miss out on all the getting to know your floor festivities because I'll be seeing Eddie Vedder 2 nights in a row:D
I'm rooming with a friend from home, I've heard a lot of bad stories about people who did that and ended up hating eachother, but I think it'll be ok.

    Oh boy!
My first year, it was a random girl - She turned out to be a lesbian (which is fine by me) but she'd always ask if we could cuddle at night..

Second semester, I moved down the hall with my friend who was a senior. She was crazy, and she weighed 88lbs, and was saving all her money for lipo.. She also sold oxycodone out of our room!

Second year, I had a roommate, but she got too drunk all the time, and failed out of school asap

Second semester senior year, I lived with one of my sorority sisters in the dorms

Third year I lived in my sorority house - which was torture. 15 girls, and one bathroom. It was purely evil, but it was one big party. I actually left the sorority in the beginning of the year, but since we had a lease with a real estate agent, I couldn't break my lease.. so it was very trying.

4th year I lived with my boyfriend of the time, who is now my husband. He was the best roommate of the bunch ;)

so i'm starting my first year at college in about... 25 days or so and i still haven't found out who i'm living with. apparently i'm supposed to hear by the end of this week, but since it's on my mind... what were your college roommates like?! share your stories - the good, the bad, the humorous!! :)

Great post! I haven't thought about this in quite some time.

Freshmen year.... awww man, you are going to have so much f'ing fun! Remember one thing, one thing only.... Go to every class. You can be hungover as hell. You can be half asleep. You don't need to pay attention. But, go. I guarantee you will atleast get a C.

Anyway, I had two freshmen year roommates because the dorm I was in was so full. However, we got a pretty cool room that was renovated in the basement of the dorm. I lived with a highschool friend of mine and this nerd that I didn't know before college. The nerd was just a big dork. He reminded me of Grimace from McDonald land. I never could have pictured myself being even friendly with him when I first met him. He was a good guy, however. we didn't hang out in the same circles ever after freshmen year, but I always said hi and talked to him because he was a really nice person. More ironically, my highschool friend turned all religious. He turned out to be a crazy dude. I'd come home from class and he'd be watching EWTN highlighting the bible. I could go on, but he turned crazy. He was heavy into booze in highschool, I don't know what happened in college. But, anyway, he left mid-way through freshmen year. Soon, after I got a new third roommate, who was even more crazy. He came in with one bag (plastic) full of clothes. He had a pillow with no cover and two sheets to sleep on. No comforter. Dude was insane. He use to sit on the bed and have a red straw in his hand. He'd twirl it. He'd stare at the twirling straw for hours. He would also do this as he walked through campus.

Long story short, out of all the whack jobs I met... that guy on the first day that I judged as being a nerd, turned out to be the coolest. Goes to show you, that you never know and that I'm a judgemental F*ck.

Anyway, enjoy college, man. It's a blast.

Thank you, I'm excited about it:) I really like Loyola's campus and Chicago. I'm in Roger's Park for now, I might end up up going downtown my 3rd or 4th year.

yeah, I figured there wouldn't be a balcony. that's cool that you're going to live in nyc though, my sister went to Columbia there, and when I visited I really liked it. (I got rejected from Columbia though, fuckers)... anyway, good luck in college. I hope I don't end up having first year troubles though :p
