Don't be surprised if Vladimir Guerrero, Magglio Ordonez, Xavier Nady, or Manny Ramirez wind up with the Phillies. The Phillies really want to add a righthanded hitter who can pinch hit and occasionally play the outfield. However, they’re extremely close to luxury tax territory.

I wouldn't mind any of these moves because of the fact that with Spring Training around the corner, and these guys without jobs, they'll end up being a decent bargain.

I think they'll be able to make room.

Also, with the Montgomery comments, I think the Phils are looking to do what the Red Sox did with A-Gon in regards of an extension for Hamels.

The only one in that group that isn't completely worthless is vlad. I'm hoping for Damon. Vlad is begging for the yanks it sounds but they want a lefty to platoon with jones.

Minor league contracts are zero risk but none of those other three will give any team anything.

Eh, I don't mind Ordonez against lefties. But just thinking about it, I don't see where they would fit any of them.

And, yeah, I heard something about the Blue Horizon opening back up but that it'll still be a hotel with a boxing venue. I just don't know if they're keeping the original venue. Which would suck.

I don't think ordonez is anywhere close to being ready to play. I could be wrong but I thought he was looking at midseason. I could see a minor league deal with an invite but I don't think they need it.

Yeah, that's what I read, I would hope they would leave the venue alone.

Needless to say I want no part of Manny PED.

Interesting look at what the Phils might be getting for their next TV contract - it's going to be a fucking bonanza...

love it. it's amazing how far this franchise has come in just a few years. kids these days are so spoiled:

The Phillies may not have to wait until 2016 to cash in. Comcast, in a show of good faith, could rip up the final few seasons of the existing 15-year contract. That would deter any other possible bidders and eliminate the outside chance of the Phillies creating their own network.

Or the Phillies could simply decide it's worth waiting and budget with the knowledge the money will eventually come. Let the Dodgers negotiate a new market-setting deal that the Phillies can surpass in 2016.

Regardless, despite a possible deal being four years away, that sort of money can drive decision-making now. And while it's nearly impossible for Phillies fans to criticize the once-frugal team's meteoric rise in payroll spending, the overwhelming public sentiment will side with Cole Hamels in upcoming contract negotiations.

read that this morning. if those teams with shitty ratings are getting those astronomical dollars for tv rights how much can the phils command? Some of those numbers are mind boggling especially for teams like the Astros. crazy where this franchise has been taken since the new stadium.

Am sure it has to do with the raw size of the market for Houston and some of the others. The Dodgers obviously makes sense. Historic franchise in the second biggest market with fans all over the country (fading a bit now, I'm sure, but still). Phillies will get paid. I wouldn't have guessed it wouldn't rival the Dodgers contract, but if Boras says it, I'll believe it.

Will be really interesting to see what happens over the next few years with all these teams getting these TV contracts. I would have to imagine the Rangers are sitting on a fucking goldmine and are going to blow up. 2 world series appearances in a row, a brand new TV contract and a payroll of right around $100 mil.

I believe Phila is still 4th biggest metro area. The area of the cities of Houston & LA is several times that of Phila, thus making the population figures distorted. Phila's area has been fixed for over 100 years.

I am sure they are currently raking it in with the ad revenue; the new TV contract would have to surpass that unknown (to us) amount.

I think the DVR argument is funny - I DVR sports all the time.

Don't think it happened. They were supposed to pass us in city population, and that didn't happen either. We'd have dropped to 6th in that category, but we stayed 5th.

5th in population, 4th in DMA TV housholds according to Neilsen.
