Martinez is a joke in the field especially considering how he hits. That was another Rule 5, right? Like Herndon. Well, for every Victorino...

having any 84 year old coach is embarrassing. i'm sorry the guy is a legend and one of the greatest of all time but you can't tell me he looked good or even 100% aware of where he was on saturday in the press box. it's time for Joe to be done. and i don't think he will ever retire so somone needs to step up and push him to the side - before he dies on the sideline.

As much as I despise the phrase, it is what it is, that's kind of how I feel. He has done so much good for the school in so many ways, football, philantrophy and just general goodwill, that he has earned the right to go out whenever he wants. I think they will hire a big name once he leaves and will most likely be a better team but I think it's his call as to when that happens.

I actually think he looks better this year than he has the last couple.

i agreed with this up until about 4 or 5 years ago but i honestly don't think he is ever going to voluntarily retire so the only move is nudge him. and i think it's seriously a health risk to allow him on the sidelines. i can totally see him either being hit again on the sideline or having to be out in shitty weather and getting sick then all the 2nd guessers will finally say he shouldn't have been out there. it's just inevitable that something is going to happen again. it's time to put a stop to it.

and that's not even getting into the fact that having an 80-something coach who doesn't go out to recruit and barely coaches is setting the program back. the time has come to move the program forward.

I have a lot of family who feel the same way. I don't think anything is going to happen but I also don't really worry about shit like that. Probably should since he has been hit twice in the past few years. I don't disagree that they are better off from a football perspective if they move on. Assuming he stays healthy, I would think he has 2 years left at most. I don't see any way he coaches past 2013.

Well, time for Doc to be the stopper. I'm sick of losing to scrubby teams.

That homer off Hamels last night was a complete joke. It was a routine fly ball even in our ballpark. And the umpire was a jerkoff.

Can't wait for Utley to come back (tomorrow right?) so I don't have to watch Michael Martinez in the field. He is an abomination.

something about martinez really bothers me. i don't think his attitude fits with this team. he looks like a guy who should be on a bad team bitching about playing time even though he can't hit and is lousy in the field. and how can a major leaguer try and throw the ball about 60 feet but only reach about 40 feet like martinez did on the relay to 3rd after Mayberry's misplay? i've never understood how often major leaguers throw the ball so much in the dirt.

and per your comment above the Astros stadium looks like it was designed by a 12-year old bored in his room on a rainy day.

WTF is the point of the stupid train in LF? Municipalities had way too much money to spend in the 90s. Completely wasteful.

Now that is a stopper. Doc with a 1-0 shutout! He now leads the NL with a 2.34 ERA. Not so fast Mr. Kershaw.

Oh yeah, we are in the playoffs. 8-)
