No he kinda sucks...despite an all-star selection. neilybabes86 trolls this thread (for some reason) but I'm with him on Papelbon. Especially for what he's getting paid. He CAN'T blow games where we hit a quality pitcher well AND our middle-relievers pitch well. Probably the worst loss of the season so far.

im not trolling..i watched the end and shared my feelings
i post on the board of a band that doesn't exsist anymore .......i need my head examined.......
My WAR machine for ironic idiocy says he leads the league in the stat.
Ryan's WAR was 1.6 last year. this team is on pace to lose 30 more games than last year. even adding in Chase's 3.9 WAR last year can you WAR buffs honestly argue that the stat is legitimate? come on, where does the other 20-25 games come into play? it's a bogus stat to think ryan is only worth 1.6 games to this team.
had Tejada struck out but umped missed it. Pence needs to catch that ball too. got to get a better jump on it.
Wow, so it's been a year or maybe two since I've visited, but I see not much has changed in terms of dumb responses lol...great win by the Mets, stop hating...good example of their season in one game...fighters till the end...2 outs and down to their last strike like 10 times and they battled....you can't tell me this is not an easy team to root for? No more Reyes bullshit, just fucking grinders through and through..

You mean you waited a year or two 'till your team was halfway decent to work up the confidence to bust balls?
How much do you guys hate Papelbon's stupid face today?
Ump call the same pitch a strike in an earlier at-bat that should've been the final strike of the game; Pence should have caught that ball. That said - there's no reason that fucker should have let 4 runners reach base.

Umps miss balls and strikes,I don't get why Pence was playing so deep in the first place.
Papbelbon gets really wild, obviously. God, I hate him.

Umps do, and they've become more inconsistent. I don't get why Pence was either; right-hander up and Wright has been making things fall short over there all series. Play him deep to left, maybe, but not in right.
Dude impressed me getting it to two outs with the runner on third, but then just fucked it up. Oh, well. People who are holding out for the second wildcard spot are starting to become dreamers. I'd love it, but the math is getting to be difficult. They would need an absolutely historical run to make it.

Yeah, definitely. They have gotten much worse across the board. Agreed. I just couldn't believe he didn't have much of a chance at that watching it.

Yeah, a lot of teams ahead of them.
phils are done. 10 games under and about 9 teams ahead of them. as jearlpam said above they would have to go on a historic run to make it. they have to be better in the 2nd half but they've just buried themselves to deep. setup to come back strong next year. they will not finish last though. and i still like Atlanta to win the division, especially if the morons in Washington shut Strasburg down.
So yeah, I had some sort of feeling of satisfaction watching Papel-schlong blow it last night. I fucking can't stand that guy. I am a bad fan, right?
Neily is right. He is terrible. That's the first intelligent thing I've ever heard that guy say about baseball.
Papel-thong's all-star selection is a joke.
I do think R6 not being around has definitely hurt this team; his presence in the lineup changes the way other teams pitch to the Phillies, which is something that could never be reflected in something like WAR. But the main thing has been pitching, especially the terrible bullpen.
Whatever, I just want Papel-bong to keep failing so Amaro gets fired after the season ends.

Howard now wearing the concussion helmet too? Both Utley and Howard have come back wearing the new helmet. I'm surprised. Doesn't look as dumb as the one a couple years ago, but you can definitely tell the difference. Good for them.

at this point amaro/manuel are like costanza dragging the championship trophy around the parking lot. I don't understand how either can keep their jobs after the last three seasons (and no I don't care about winning 102 games...it's all about playoff success, or lackthereof, that these clowns should be judged on).
just read that cincy is interested in juan pierre. I will give minaya credit if he gets anything in return for that turd
I also saw that Arizona is taking offers for justin upton. I think the phils need to sign hamels, but if they decide to go the dumb route and trade him I would love to see upton come here. Then they could sign BJ to play CF when stinkarino leaves (which can't happen fast enough...he's pretty annoying when he's not producing). If the phils could pull off something like upton and tyler skaggs for hamels, I think they will have done pretty well, even if I think it's the wrong way to go. Then again, we are stuck with amaro calling the shots, so we are pretty much fucked.
All of that said, the guy I'd try to move first is hunter pence. I think he's a prime example of a guy whose numbers don't reflect his value to a team (he's like a poor man's bobby abreu). He's a guy who consistently has terrible ABs late in games, is a disaster in RF, and just looks plain awkward. It's amazing to me when you look at his numbers and they aren't far worse. Every time I see him run it reminds me of this...
And finally, Jackie Bradley Jr was just called up to AA. Scouts saying he's advanced to the point where he will be ready to play CF at the major league level next season. Larry Greene Jr is hitting under 200 in rookie ball (the level BELOW low A). Greene over Bradley is worse than Brandon Graham over Earl Thomas...and it's on pace to be worse than Larry Hughes over Paul Pierce. Amaro sucks at life...god I hate him
sweet. stay hot minaya. this was the pick I was most excited about based on what I read post-draft
There were potential penalties if they went over their spending allowance according the new CBA rules. If phils would have given in to the request for an additional 180K they could have lost draft picks and been taxed. That said, it's terrible planning to lose a 2nd round pick over what represents a tiny amount of an additional signing bonus.
I can't talk rationally about this team anymore. I would take a lot of restraint to not punch amaro if I ever see him in person (I actually bumped into him and bill giles at mcfaddens the year CBP opened. That was my chance. Damnit)
According to a report in the Des Moines Register, the Phillies lost out on their second round pick, Alec Rash, over $180,000.
The report cites Rash's father, Mike, as saying that the 6-foot-5 right-handed pitcher couldn't come to terms with the Phillies:
"Mike Rash said the family requested $800,000. He said the Phillies countered with an offer of $500,000 plus $120,000 for college.
"'They stayed pretty consistent with their offer,' Mike Rash said."
