I have a whole LIST of things that drive me nutty on the subway:

    * Couples who make out. By far #1 on my list. GROSS.

    Also:

    * iPods (or whatever) that I can hear because they are so loud.
    * People (not just guys) who stare at me.
    * Guys who stand right in front of me when I'm sitting down so their dicks are pretty much in my face.
    * People who take up 2 seats on the train (with their luggage, or their feet) and then give attitude when you make them move their shit.
    * Sneezers who don't cover their mouths.

    And many more.

OK, so with gas prices going through the roof I have started taking the bus to work. I am wondering what is the deal with people being rude on public transporation

I am on a 6 AM bus and there are those who think it is OK to have a conversation on their cell phone the whole hour it takes to get into the city

Also, people having loud conversations while everyone is trying to sleep

Are people ok with this? I find it rude!

I can see why you'd find it rude. If you're trying to read or sleep, it must be distracting. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a way to get the talking person to care. :o

Maybe try moving farther away so the person isn't so loud?

We have quiet carriages on trains as well with no phones, mp3 players, computer games etc allowed.

But honestly my morning commute is pretty quiet anyway. I think people feel awkward if they get on the train with a friend and want to chat 'cause it's so quiet :D

yeah the phones are annoying, people are so inconsiderate.
in japan they actually have "quiet cars" on the commuter trains because the phones were such a problem.

yeah everyone was so polite in Japan! It was so refreshing to be around people that weren't completely fucking rude!! haha even the "non quiet cars" were really quiet compared to here.

and they are light years ahead of us as far as public transportation goes. Every train was on time within the minute it said on the schedule. and those food cart girls on the bullet trains ruled!:D

You didn't hear about the dude who cut off another dude's head while he was sleepin. When authorities got there, he started eating the other dude.He did it on a crowded bus

Few months back, I think it was a Greyhound bus

    Scary stuff

Back when I was riding the bus I was taking this route for awhile that stopped off and picked up this midget with down syndrome, who I guess was a construction worker because he wore a hard hat.

This guy spent the whole time bouncing around the bus, tapping on peoples' shoulders and saying, "Hello." Some people would engage him in conversation, during which his cherub voice could be heard throughout the whole bus.

His name was Ross, and many people on that route knew him by name. People would say, "Hey, Ross, what's the happs?"

For some reason, his behavior truly annoyed me. I 'm not sure why to this day.

But years later I ran into him while crossing a street in downtown ocean beach. I said, "Hey, isn't your name Ross?" He's like, "Yeah."

    Cant stand it.

For what reason they need to scream I have no idea...the person at the other end can always hear.

Im actually embarrassed to talk on a bus....no one wants to know my private life.

Most of the time the convo goes as such.
    And he was like ...no
    And I was like really?
And he was like hhhhmmmm sort of.
Gotta go. Just getting off the bus. Ill finish the rest when I get home. See you in 5 minutes.

Several times Ive tapped people on the shoudler and siad "do you mind not screaming" - funny thing is half the time they dont know they were. Most get embarrassed

it is annoying when people carry on a really loud cell convo, especially when they're hollering right next to your head. oy!

i take the bus to work, doesn't bother me really. i used to drive to work but figured out the cost of the bus pass through work was a really good deal (they give us a $10 subsidy towards it each month, and take it out of one's paycheck before taxes!). thankfully i'm not too far from work so it's not a long ride.

there's annoying people everywhere though...driving you have to deal wiht idiots on the cell phone not paying attention, or people just walking out into the street. i guess my disdain for humanity transcends transportation options lol

I used to get the 6:30 am train onto work. Mostly people just snoozed their way into town, but you always got the odd arsehole who would chat, chat, chat at the top of their voice all the way. My advice? Put in your mp3 player, and listen to some soothing tunes to blot it all out and help you sleep. :)

definitely inconsiderate, but can also be comedic. last week when coming back from shea stadium on the seven train, a girl was yelling at some guy named john, whom she apparently wasn't dating and was yelling about giving him money. after she finished, she was like, so did the mets win...

People in Ireland have never heard of this concept...seriously.
Buses suck coz you have to put up with narky drivers and they are never cleaned. Trains are only marginally better.

If you've ever been upstairs on the 13 you wouldn't be so happy about it. I won't go into it now though.
