Public Transporation Etiquette

OK, so with gas prices going through the roof I have started taking the bus to work. I am wondering what is the deal with people being rude on public transporation
I am on a 6 AM bus and there are those who think it is OK to have a conversation on their cell phone the whole hour it takes to get into the city
Also, people having loud conversations while everyone is trying to sleep
Are people ok with this? I find it rude!

Aren't gas prices dropping now? You probably should have started taking the bus about six months ago0 -
I used to get the 6:30 am train onto work. Mostly people just snoozed their way into town, but you always got the odd arsehole who would chat, chat, chat at the top of their voice all the way. My advice? Put in your mp3 player, and listen to some soothing tunes to blot it all out and help you sleep.A human being that was given to fly.

Hmmm on my train unusual for anyone to be on the phone ... occassionally someone will take a two minute call but most people tend to be reading.
I think month two's savings should be invested in noise cancelling headphonesSo are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?0 -

I have been for exactly 6 months.
Forgot the IPOD this AM and was amazed at the behavior.0 -

i just cant stand buses... i hate everything about them.
they cost more per journey than taking my car
the people on them are either 65+ or shitty little schoolkids
the drivers are the most miserable cunts on the earth
the take far too long to get anywhere.. all that stopping lark... i can just drive straight home
they are noisy, my car isnt... well it is, but thats with some rocking tunes.. not the sound of pensioners bones rattling or schoolkids having a 'lets see who can swear the loudest' competition.
and the drivers are fucking evil.. yes i said that twice but i hate them that muchoh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -
I think public transport is a great idea but I hate it
I get the bus every morning to work.
It's ram packed full of students talking at the top of their voices about every pompous subject and\or society under the sun, listening to shite music too loud, dragging on continent sized suitcases whilst pissing around with their mates and trying to convince the world they're all grown up cuz they're at uni. What's more, a lot of them are rude and have absolutely NO IDEA how to queue and ffs, It's CORRECT change only dumbass! Don't hand over a fiver to a Nigerian bus driver who hates his job and hates all students and hope to get a smile, a "Have a nice day!" and a handful of coppers in return!!
*pants*
Rant over.
Good luck with your daily commute.Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.0 -
yeah the phones are annoying, people are so inconsiderate.
in japan they actually have "quiet cars" on the commuter trains because the phones were such a problem.
but what really bugs me is when someone feels compelled to clip their nails in public, man is that gross and the sound is so effing irritating0 -

people are gonna do whatever the hell they want
wherever the hell they want
whenever the hell they want
basically today, its more about you teaching yourself and eventually learning to tune out the rest of people in our society....sad its come to thisMansfield II: # 23, since '03

We have quiet carriages on trains as well with no phones, mp3 players, computer games etc allowed.
But honestly my morning commute is pretty quiet anyway. I think people feel awkward if they get on the train with a friend and want to chat 'cause it's so quietSo are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?0 -
This little squishy foam earplugs...I never fly without them.Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

i take the LIRR daily, and really...no problems. most especially in the mornings, most people are VERY quiet. there is the rare cell call, usually short, but mostly people sleep, read, work on laptops and listen to ipods. the biggest issue is people putting their bags on seats and having to ask them to move them so you can sit down. that's it. also, the past 2 mornings i had to squeeze next to 2 unusually large people to have a seat....but feck it....i AM sitting so i can sleep too!
on the way home slightly more convo, but still relatively quiet....and zero issues with seating b/c my husband always saves me a seat since we commute home together.
if we don't share a train i usually get car service home, so the after-work commute is always ok. unless trains are delayed......
Stay with me...
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow0 -
i just throw on my i-pod, block out all of nonsense, and space out!0

After that story, I dont sleep on trains0 -
once saw a dude on the commuter rail cutting his nails and swiping them on the seat/floor. didn't bother me that much, but the looks he was getting were priceless.I love to turn you on0

I have a whole LIST of things that drive me nutty on the subway:
* Couples who make out. By far #1 on my list. GROSS.
Also:
* iPods (or whatever) that I can hear because they are so loud.
* People (not just guys) who stare at me.
* Guys who stand right in front of me when I'm sitting down so their dicks are pretty much in my face.
* People who take up 2 seats on the train (with their luggage, or their feet) and then give attitude when you make them move their shit.
* Sneezers who don't cover their mouths.
And many more."If you're looking for someone to pull you out of that ditch, you're out of luck."0
