How was the film and the score?
    The Beach Boys (2024)

Good movie! I liked how their successors have understood what their music really represents, and took it a step further. Another standout moment was "The Beach Boys vs The Beatles" competition. Some interesting archival photos from the Vietnam war were also shown. The score was composed by Mike McCready

Marvel movies have been on all week, since the new Captain America comes out tomorrow.

This was so sad. Chadwick was so great.  RIP.
May your days be long, til kingdom come.

Saw it in OMNIMAX which was, in a word, fucked. But I thought the movie was ...fine. The new concert footage is fun, particularly when there's live audio accompanying, though often they're just playing the track off the record. But also, half the new footage is just like the back of Robert Plant's head. It didn't do anything interesting in terms of documentary - very standard. It was cool hearing the band talk, especially Page, but I didn't come away feeling like I learned much of anything new. The film only covers their first two records, so look out for BEING LED ZEPPELIN, I guess.

It wasn’t bad. It had some cool action scenes and Harrison Ford and Anthony Mackie were very good, but Giancarlo Esposito was wasted in it.

Wasn't Giancarlo Esposito also added in reshoots/reconfiguration of the film.

  • The ending is Final Destination 5 made me smile.

I'm skipping My own Private Idaho on 35mm today. A little ball of anxiety. But, Pan's Labyrinth on tuesday instead.

^Totally agree. Saw it Thursday. Also, the security agent to Harrison Ford that protects the secrecy of a certain character you could tell was rewritten quite a bit. She’s from the comic books (super deep, I’m unaware of her) but apparently is a Mossad agent. They completely changed whatever they were going to do with her.

Considering the extensive rewrites that added whole characters, it was a pretty good movie. The potential to be an absolute disaster was probably real (which would have been a shame as Mackie and Ford are great).

Way better than the Rotten Tomatoes critics score and better than the reviews here. Look at the audience score. Best MCU movie in a while.  First MCU movie my friends liked since GOTG 3.  Sets up the next Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-men arrival well.

I thas the lowest Cinemascore of any Marvel movie, which is a tried and true audience score.

The audiences have spoken, and what they've had to say hasn't been very encouraging for Marvel Studios. Opening day crowds gave Captain America: Brave New World, the latest installment in the long-running Marvel Cinematic Universe, the franchise's worst-ever CinemaScore.

Yeah it would be great if they followed up with another installment. I thought it was amazing. Great sound and just amazing hearing Jimmy's insights into recording and what direction he wanted to go, etc.
