  • How was it? No spoilers please, but did you like it? I assume you're a fan of the original. Worthy sequel? Do Murry and Ackroyd get a good amount of screen time? They've been hidden from the trailers (which I kinda like).

I have a strong relationship to other films from 1984 (Elm Street, The Terminator etc) but not really Ghostbusters. I think I even saw part II before the first one. I rewatched it yesterday though. I think it is a pleasant enough film - carried to a large degree by Bill Murray but would not call myself a superfan. I dig the big bad in the painting from part II over Gozer also...

What I wrote at another place:

Watch it more as an Amblin matiné with kids driving the film, like Super-8 or Transformers (2007) and less like a Ghostbusters-sequel wanting Bill Murray-esque sarcasm.

It doesn't really feel like it is part of the same universe. No more gritty and grainy New York and instead shots of the golden hour and corn fields. With it telling a story through an Amblin lens, but hooking into the Ghostbusters. Almost feel, to reference Hellraiser, like the spec scripts Dimension bought up and then shoved Pinhead into making them Hellraiser movies. But at the same time, look at movies like Dumb and Dumber 2 and Anchorman 2 trying to just give you "more of the same" (like Ghostbusters 2). That could have been more of a mistake decades later. Hard to not respect Jason Reitman for taking it in another direction in that context. But it could have easily been it's own story with no links to Ghostbusters also.

Regarding Murray and Aykroyd and Hudsons involvement:

they have glorified cameos and doesn't feel all that organically included. They could have been used a bit more instead of being used just to have the audience go:

The best part of the film is some scenes with Paul Rudd and McKenna Grace. Should have given them more scenes together. AND the midcredit scene.

I'm not really a comic book/super hero movie fan in general (Iron Man is the exception for me), but even then I sensed that was just a little something missing from this film... was it.... a good sense of humour? They tried with that, but I'm not sure it worked very well. Anyway, it was fine, for a super hero movie, not great. I never really can get into them, so I dunno. Plus, we went to the 19+ VIP theatre, so were drunk, lol. Some cool things to look at for sure.

I finally got around to seeing this after watching the spin off Netflix show. Probably the wrong way round to do it, but you can really appreciate Favreau’s skills and training in the kitchen when you watch the movie.

One of my favorite movies to watch.  Countless watches, almost did again, last night.
People are critical of Favreau but he is a marvel, to me.

Exactly.  Dude could write that genius stuff and do so many other things.  Acting is not near the top of list of talents this guy has.
