I think the problem with saying "God did it" is that it's an easy cop-out at this point. If people are so sure there's a god that created, why can't they sit back let science objectively prove it?

Science prove how life started? I have to disagree that there is even a possibility in our lifetime, or even our great grandchildren's lifetime, that this question can be answered. But I agree, nobody should be trying to stop science from answering these questions.

Who knows... maybe 500 years from now our descendants will look back at evolution and think of it the same we think of... "bleeding out diseases" in medicine 500 years ago. Every generation thinks they have the answers... but every generation should be open minded.

I wasn't saying that science is gonna prove it any time soon - I was just saying that to stop trying to prove it because God probably did it would be folly.

And I got to say "folly". :)

Oh you couldn't be more wrong. Science is all about the pursuit of knowledge and advancing our understanding of the world around us.

You obviously believe that God(or some higher power) created life... why wouldn't learning more about that creation excite you?

I'm just saying that often the least productive people have reasons for being so and if given the right 'resources' can become productive members of society again...

Yeah, they should have just pushed those fuckers(non-conformists) over the edge a long time ago when the world was still flat! Coulda saved us some time and resources...;)

science would rather not give you some bullshit reason just to put your mind at ease... religion on the other hand

there are TONS of mysteries in the scientific community... thats what makes it so compelling to many as a career

im with ya on welfare though... i consider myself a compassionate, liberal minded person... but im also irish... and we know something about working our way up from nothing... no one should get free hand outs... but until employers give minorities and the impoverished equal opportunity at employment, welfare is a necessary crutch

    I'm lost.

    Science vs. Religion
    Social Darwinsim
    Helping out each other
    Evolution

This thread is kind of all over the place.

Evolution = Indisputable fact of nature
Helping each other out - how can that possibly be a bad thing?

Life is simply a sum of the choices we all make. If someone chooses to not work, there are consequences to that choice. There might be programs to help that person get by, but there are still major consequences.

If someone is a good, honest person and chooses to works hard and, usually there are positive outcomes to that choice.

If someone is sick or disabled or even poor - how can a good and honest person (see above) or collective people turn their back?

It is natural to 'let the weaker less productive human capital die off', what world you living in? I question the evoluion theory in hope rather than knowledge or certainty.

Although, reckon over the next 1000 years a genetically superior upper-class will develop, as in Huxley's novels.

my parenting will likely lean more towards this approach than the shitty overparenting the majority of young parents do these days... forces kids to be strong and self-sufficient... sure times have changed... but not as much as some of these young parents would lead you to believe... let kids have fun!
