So sad. We lost a nephew at only 16 years old two Summers ago from the same thing. He was also a Hockey player for his school and a town league. I feel so bad for the parents, nothing more tragic then losing your child.

Something congenital. My thoughts exactly. My husband found Alexei's first blog posted just a few days ago which I've posted a link to below. So sad. RIP, young man.

  • Damn, this kid had a bright future. So sad, him and bourdon.
And that's just another reason why any nhl player who bolts the league for russia is crazy.(talking about jagr not cherapanov who is there as an nhl prospect) Not having an ambulance is just irresponsible.

Sounds like more could have been done to save him... but this kind of tragedy can happen to anyone, at any level, if playing sports with a bad heart (assuming that's what it was).
It happened last season at the rink I play at... a guy in his early 40's died on the bench during the game before ours...I found out a week later that it was a former co-worker...he had five kids :(

    RIP Alexie
  • i still cant believe this happened. hes my age and granted i dont play any sports anymore, it just proves to never take anything for granted

  • wow. how crazy and creepy is it that Jagr is involved?
  • just saw the story on sportsnet. too early and end for such a bright young man. i'm sure we all feel for his friends and family.

there's now video of him being treated and carried off the bench - no stretcher. Jagr's standing over him most of the time. I can post the link, but thought it might be in morbid bad taste. it definitely underscores the lack of medical sophisitcation/technology that may have saved the kid's life if present.
a day later, i still can't quite believe this.

Oh my God what a horrible story. So young. This is very disturbing.

As usual, Eric Duhatschek has a unique take on this. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20081014.wsptduha1014/BNStory/Sports/?page=rss&id=..wsptduha1014

This just gets sadder and sadder.
